I’ve heard of salmon jumping into boats, but never anything quite
like this…
Tom Satre told the Sitka Gazette that he was out with a
charter group on his 62-foot fishing vessel when four
juvenile black-tailed deer swam directly toward his
boat.

“Once the deer reached the boat, the four began to circle the boat, looking directly at us. We could tell right away that the young bucks were distressed.
I opened up my back gate and we helped the typically skittish and
absolutely wild animals onto the boat.

In all my years fishing, I’ve never seen anything quite like it!

Once onboard, they collapsed with exhaustion, shivering.”

“This is a picture I took of the rescued bucks on the back of my boat, the Alaska Quest.

We headed for Taku Harbor. Once we reached the dock, the first buck that we had been pulled from the water hopped onto the dock, looked back as if to say ‘thank you’ and disappeared into the
forest.

After a bit of prodding and assistance, two more followed, but the smallest deer needed a little more help.

This is me carrying the little guy.

My daughter, Anna, and son, Tim, helped the last buck to its feet. We
didn’t know how long they had been in the icy waters or if there had been others who did not survive.

My daughter later told me that the experience was something that she would never forget, and I suspect the deer felt the same way as
well!”

Wow, so intense.  I am drained just watching this.   I hope everyone will watch this to the end.   I want to comment on several points.   This was sent to me by a Toy Box viewer.    This person has a story similar to those in this documentary.  The documentary shows how people who are NOT a danger to kids can get caught up in this horrible situation.  I can’t imagine having to live my life like these boys do, I can’t imagine the restrictions, the fears, the housing problems, the job problems, and having no socialization because of something that happened when you were 18 or 19 and was consensual and caused no one any harm.  I can imagine the reactions of people in the community I live in if someone were to tell them what these boys have to tell everyone.  They wouldn’t let the boys explain, they would  assume the worst imaginable crime and take their anger out on the boys.  I heard several things on this documentary I would like more people to hear.  One is the fact that even 18 and 19 year old’s are not fully mature.  While some are more mature, many are still big kids.  I also noticed how hard it is for these boys to have even a shred of self respect and esteem.   Yes they made mistakes, but as that lady said, they are not their crimes, they are people, not the same persons they were, they have grown and aged, they have learned, they have much more to them than just that label.  Yet most people won’t look beyond that label, wont even see the person they are and wont see them as human.   I don’t think we can stay silent while the injustice of these sex offender laws continue to destroy people, destroy rehabilitation, destroy any hope of a second chance.   We need to be smarter about sex offences, smarter about protecting all our citizens, children, adults and the elderly.   Please voice your concern, your opinions, your hopes and lets change our world for the better.   Hugs
