What you believe

Filed under: My Life and Rants, News, opinion, Political, Questions — Scottie @ 10:28

Recently Ron and I were at a restaurant.  We sat at a booth and across the aisle from us was another booth.  The people in the booth were older and not shy.  The were sharing their opinions with each other at a volume that could clearly be heard several tables away.

The were fox news viewers.  The repeated said how only fox news will tell them the truth.  Fox was the only one not bought and paid for, not an arm of a political party.   They loudly affirmed that tRump was the greatest president ever, who was being unfairly attacked by the fake news people.   All other news sources were lying.  They were fake news.  They were all in the pay of the bad liberals.  You know those people who hate the country.  They were not shy about proclaiming the truth that Obama had done worse than tRump.  The shared that Obama had banned muslims from far more countries and the democrats did not care and they had proof, they saw it on fox news.  Obama had hated the country and wanted to tear it apart, and tRump had put it back together.  Already the economy was bouncing back, the unemployment rate was great again, and other countries were respecting us again.   They were going to get rid of Obamacare and replace it with the ACA.  There was so much more.  Most of it was lies, rumor and innuendo they took at serious truth.

Ron was ready to get up and go across to them and set them straight but I held him back.  I told him they simply wouldn’t believe him and he would be the one in the wrong for trying to correct them.  He would be a Hillary supporter trying to take away their rights as true Americans and if we were gay we were mostly likely perverts who wanted to make love right there in the restaurant to all the guys in sight.   It was surreal what was happening.

Be wary my friends, they walk among us and they vote.   Hugs

  1. Scottie, I probably shouldn’t have laughed at that story but I just couldn’t help myself. You are such a gem. 🙂

    • 🙂 I am glad you laughed, it is much better reaction than being angry or crying. They hate to be laughed at, they have no humor. Thanks Carmen. Hugs

      • Humor, that’s the key. I’ll never forget the quote from one of my favorite books, Summer of My German Soldier, “if Hitler had possessed a sense of humor, he could have laughed at himself and there wouldn’t have been any of this.”

        I swear dogma and fanaticism take over everything. It always fascinated me, in a dark way, how these types can never just step back and laugh at themselves. But they’re (usually) more than willing to laugh at others. Surely they can’t all be plain bullies? Surely, some of them are just honestly misguided?

        • 🙂 agreed. The older ones are so set in their ways. They are sure they know what they are talking about and they are correct. Anyway, I hope you have a grand day. Hugs

          • Yes, agreed. Maybe that fear of dying really does translate to a more conservative mindset. That, the no filter part – I’m old, therefore I can (and will say whatever I want), and the loss of hearing does bring its own humor to the situation. Then again, my sense of humor is of the very dark, very morbid variety.

            It’s night time here in Hungary, but will enjoy it 😃. Have a good day, and hugs back.

            • I think you humor is grand. We do like to watch how things happen when we are out. Also being set in your ways doesn’t always mean conservative. We live in what use to be a retirement mobile home park, so there is still a majority older people in the 70s, 80s, 90s. Boy the liberals and the conservatives get into some heated no one willing to back down arguments. Plus history gets thrown around like it was poker chips. They all have their younger ones they champion. Ron and I are well liked by almost all as Ron still is and I use to be in the healthcare field. I was at an event in the club house and an old man growled at me to “cut your damn hair”, before I could answer a bunch of elderly ladies were explaining to him how he was a dower old fart and he should keep silent until they told him what to say. 🙂 Glad you came to my Toy Box, there is lots here, enjoy your self. Hugs

            • Sounds like you and Ron are having the time of your lives where you are. Love these dynamics in communities. Had to laugh at the old fart telling you to cut your hair, and the ladies coming to your defense. Will definitely have a look around later on. Hugs.

  3. Hi Scottie;
    They are out there…. and they vote! Dying here! ;D

    I heard Fox’s Chris Wallace actually defend the other news agencies as having reported factually correct news. He felt they were working to undercut tRump, but they were accurate if not fair. Totally befuddled the other reporter questioning him and seeking to get him to deep six the other news agencies. Someone didn’t get the memo.

    • I like it. You had me with the memo line. SO you like me and the world think fox people get told what to say and push? Sad isn’t it, but it must be true. Hugs

      • Hi Scottie;
        Just read something a bit baffling: tRump has a 38% approval rating…. so this means that 38% of the people LIKE what he is doing?!!!?

        • Ya? Weird right. But then if you read my report of being in the restaurant across from the fox news / total tRump supporters you would see why. Hope all is well. Lets chat tomorrow. Hugs

  4. Not being a genuine American I do not have to suffer under the state of the nation. However, thankyou Mr. Trump for the term “fake news” – you can use it everywhere, even where the inventor of the term did not intend it to be used.

  5. Umm, “other countries are respecting us again”? I think it’s more in the line of looking aghast at the US, a country the rest of the western world could share many values with and who is, unfortunately, going in the wrong direction.
    But maybe I shouldn’t say anything; we might be on the wrong path as well, depending on the results of our coming election in May, over here.
    You did well not interacting with them; there is no way to reason with narrow minded people.

  7. Good grief! Again lovely WordPress had me unfollowing you. Many of our fellow Americans are just flat out ignorant! It’s easier for them to believe one news source, then using their brains to actually find out what is true.

  8. I don’t know what it is about Faux News. I have to wonder if they are using some sort of mind control techniques in their broadcasts. People cling to that nonsense like they just can’t live without it. They eat it up.

    Of course some people like hearing the way they feel said out loud. So I guess if you are tossing out the slop they know and love they will keep coming back.

    Whatever the case may be, morons abound.

    • I agree. I live in an older retirement mobile home park and some of the people cling to fox like it is the air they need to breath. It not only says what they feel ( no one likes to admit they are a bigot ) and it makes them feel good that they are uneducated. It is all about making the older people who want their best most important years back. Regardless of what shit was bad then, they personally had it better, they were younger, and of course they are always correct. Hugs
