Scotties Toy Box

I am so frustrated right now.  I bought a new microphone kit, with arm and shield and a higher quality microphone.    I looked at several online and as they were about the same price, I bought the one with the best microphone for my purpose.  Well it arrived this morning and I got busy setting it up.   I figured it would be better for doing videos.  However I ran into a snag.  My computers would see the microphone easy but no sound.   I check and recheck everything I could think of, but no sound.

I went back online to look at the microphone kit, then at the other kits.  I notice something I missed before.   All the other kits included a 48v phantom power supply, but the one with the better mic did not.   Shoot.  But the write up said it was plug and play, which normally means just plug it into your computer and it works.  Yes it did not need a driver, but it will require this 48v power added.  I can get a simply power supply for 20 after tax.   However I looked at mixers that will do the same thing, but they run from 40 to 50 before tax.   As I am not planning to do this for a living, I decided I did not need a mixer.

So now instead of doing my videos with a nice new grand microphone I am waiting another three days for my new phantom power supply to arrive to power the microphone I already bought.   I have to admit the write up on this seems misleading but the seller can claim that you should have known that some mics take a separate power supply.   Oh well I will be generous and think they were not trying to pull a fast one by not mentioning the need for a power supply and then selling their kit for about the same price as those that came with it.  grrrrr.     Hugs

  2. How very irritating, Scottie. I hope it all works when the cable arrives.
