The Oklahoma Senate is getting closer and closer to passing legislation that would require every public school classroom, library, and other state-funded buildings to prominently display the phrase “In God We Trust.”

The bill was pushed through the committee on the backs of politicians who think forced adherence to God and Jesus are more important than the spirit of secularization and the separation of church and state, but there were some objections.

A married lesbian couple, both of whom are professors at Texas A&M University, have sued the Trump administration after being denied the right to serve as refugee foster parents via a government-funded non-profit. They were told they had to “mirror the holy family,” according to the lawsuit.

Fatma Marouf and Bryn Esplin tried to become foster parents for refugee children last year, but Catholic Charities of Fort Worth, which receives taxpayer funds, rejected the application on the basis of their sexual orientation. The charity said they were denied as soon as it became clear they were in a same-sex marriage.

The Catholic Charities of Fort Worth receives taxpayer funding to help find foster parents for refugee children, in the form of sub-grants from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which receives grants from the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement.

This isn’t the first time in which we’ve seen alleged abuses linked to the Trump administration’s refugee settlement offices. They have also been accused of denying safe abortions to young teen immigrant women, pushing a blatantly biased, anti-choice agenda.

  1. Also saw were a teacher in a Catholic school was fired because she married her female partner and the school also was threatening to fire other teachers if they attended the wedding.

We are heading towards an Islamic type religion controlled Christian government at the federal and state levels. It will ruin us as China and other countries stay and grow into the modern world. The writing is on the wall. I’m glad I’m old.

I just wonder what on earth these so called Christians are afraid of that they are so obsessed.

    • I agree. The religious right in this country complains about sharia law, all the while trying to push christian religious sharia law. ( sharia means religious ) We have dominionist people in this country trying to make our secular government a theocracy of only their religious faith. Hugs

  4. “In God We Trust” … but be sure and have your handgun and AR-15 at the ready because … well, God might be busy at the moment answering “thoughts and prayers.”
