  2. I’ve never heard an answer from the religious nuts on this other than “it says so in the Bible.” And I have never heard an answer from anyone as to why they are so obsessed. Perhaps the occasional Christian who visit yours and other blogs here could answer that beyond the easy way out ridiculous quote above. People usually hate somethingnthey really fear.

    • Speaking of christians, After I posted the bunch of memes against religion, I had a person with a religious blog subscribe. It happens all the time. I wonder if they even read the posts / memes or they just see the title and subscribe. They seem not to understand I am an atheist and this blog doesn’t support theism at all. Hugs

      • Same thing happens to me. I’m guessing they simply follow any blog that has “religion” as one of its tags.

        • Ah, thanks. I forgot I do tag them religion. That makes sense as I know they cant be seeing the posts and still think it a christian blog. Hugs

    • Yes but sadly the ministers / pastors pushing this mindset won’t see themselves clearly as a threat to LGBTQ and the youth of those groups especially. Me I am old enough and secure enough to laugh at them and tell them to get stuffed. But kids hear this hate trash they spew and they take it inside themselves. It makes me angry the harm it causes. Hugs

      • That’s too true Scottie. I feel like you having a blog, and the personal experience, that helps to illuminate this kind issue, could well help someone one day. That person needing to hear the right thing at the right time. I feel that way about the comments we leave littered around on our friends blogs too. I hope that the presence we leave behind us on the net can be useful to that someone, someday.

Which is exactly why we need to keep it up.

        • Well said! I love the idea of that. It makes my day brighter to think we are helping others who need to hear what we are saying, and know there are people like them who are OK. Hugs

          • Make sure to use tags that can be picked up on an internet search.

I have, a couple of times, on things I’ve written that I wanted specifically wanted to be easily picked up, visited my article (using its link) a few times to give it a boost in a search engine. I only do that for things I feel might be informative on a certain subject, for instance one post I had was on a certain little telescope. I did a piece about how to fix a certain issue with that scope. So I visited the page a few times, now when I do a search on it, it shows up in the search.

I would not do that for 99.9% of the stuff I would do, but for a specific endeavor I would, and have. So something to think about when you are posting something you want to be there for inquisitive access.

  5. In many many countries people are killed for homosexuality.
What’s worse, being denied a wedding cake and having to go somewhere else, or being killed?

    Comment by Amanda — April 8, 2018 @ 13:29

    • Good gravy Amanda. Do you not see that the whole cake thing is about discrimination? OK think on it this way. Take the word gay or same sex, and substitute the words black or jewish. Wouldn’t you say that if someone with a public business refused to serve a black person that was discrimination, even though the bible was used to justify slavery? How would you see it if they said they refuse to bake cakes for Jews. Plus they do not mind all the things people do that the bible says not to, just gays. They were willing to make cakes for people who eat shellfish which the bible says is an abomination. They were willing to do cakes for people who committed adultery, who were tattooed, both things the bible says is a no no. Hey the bakers who were so religious they couldn’t bake a cake for a gay couple were wearing mixed fibers, which the bible commands you not to do. SO it is not about religion, it is about hate and bigotry.

Now Amanda you seriously took all the assaults and killings, plus the loss of jobs, housing, adoption, lending to mention a few other things christians try to deny to gay people and you think the worst christians have done is to to discriminate in cake baking? Did you not read what I said about Matthew Shepard?

I am a gay man who has been assaulted, denied jobs, denied promotion, denied housing, denied fair treatment, and been targeted by people claiming to be christians. I served in two branches of the US military but was required to keep my sexual orientation a secret , which the straight people sure the hell did not do. I could have been dishonorably discharged if it was widely known I was gay. Ralph Reed and other leaders of large christian groups want to bring that back. They want to make being gay a crime. That is here in the USA that christian leaders want to make being gay a crime. Open your eyes and ears. You have leaders of big churches who were bragging happily about the Pulse gay nightclub deaths. Publicly wishing for more homo’s to be killed. You have pastors and bishops who regularly call for gays to be denied the rights non-gay people have and who want to deny them jobs such as teachers. This from groups known to have a child sex problem, but they attack gay people. I can tell you if you do a search on gay bashing in this country you will find most of them claim to be christian and doing it for their god. You are terribly misinformed on this issue. One last thing. It is not the islamic groups in this country calling for these things, they don’t have the political power. The christians do, and they are upset because they use to have even more power, and they are going to lose it in the future. I can’t wait until they do.

      Comment by Scottie — April 8, 2018 @ 14:43

      • But what you aren’t understanding is the difference between personal/social discrimination and legal rights/punishment.

Legally, discrimination should be more illegal across the board than it currently is, I think all pro-gay rights people would agree with that. But to have a fair perspective it’s important to acknowledge what the gays in Islamic countries are facing because in the US we could never even imagine going through anything like that.

It’s illegal to deny someone a job, promotion, adoption, and to assault obviously, and that’s a whole lot more than what Sharia laws can say.

It honestly is not a crime to assert one’s right to free speech, despite how offensive it may be about gays or any other group. Homosexuality will never be illegal in the US, that’s absurd and there’s no reason to think something like that would happen here now or in the future.

The Bible and Quran condemn homosexuality equally, you’ve just grown up in a Christian society and haven’t had enough exposure to the doctrine of Islam to know better than standing up for it. Which is sad, because in ANY Islamic society you’d have been tortured and killed long ago.

        Comment by Amanda — April 8, 2018 @ 18:47

        • Amanda you have to remember where you started this conversation. You were saying Islam was far more dangerous to gay people and that I was being unfair to christianity. I pointed out that I as a gay man am in far more danger in this country from christians than I am from muslims. That point stands. I am not in a Islamic country. I did say also that if christianity ever got to rule a country like islam does rule some countries the result would be the same. Death to gays. The bible requires it. So if they could get away with it, christians would have to do it if they were in charge as a theocracy. Amanda I sometimes get the feeling you do not read what I am replying to you.

Now you went from talking about dire threats and we worked all the way to discrimination. Did you look up gay bashing as I suggested? You will see that hundreds of people are killed for being gay or because someone thinks they are in this country each year. The majority of people doing those killings claim to be christian in this country. God hates fags goes a long way to explain how some christians feel.

Let me tell you a true story. I was in a wheelchair for 2 1/2 years. While in the wheelchair I couldn’t use my backyard because there was a concrete step down from the carport / driveway. I had plenty of christian neighbors. They knew of my problem. I had one muslim neighbor. He came over to my house with concrete and after asking my permission built me a ramp down into the backyard. He would not take any money nor did want anything. He simply did it.

The point is this, not all christians are good and not all muslims are evil. But as I said in this country christians have had privilege to enforce their views socially and in some cases legally. Muslins never had that. So muslims don’t try to use that against others, but christians still do.

You are wrong it is not illegal to deny a gay person a job in some places. Most of the states do not protect sexual orientation in the workplace, nor in the housing market. The same with adoption. In fact with the new freedom of religion laws the christian republicans are trying to get enacted, it is perfectly legal to deny those things and more to gay people. In fact many protections of policy that Obama had put in place are now gone thanks to the current white house occupant.

Free speech? Who is talking free speech? We were talking people who own public businesses and accommodations. They can think what they want, believe anything they wish, say what stupid shit comes to their minds, but they can not discriminate against any member of the public. Or shouldn’t be allowed to. That was the whole point of the civil rights movement. Now you say all those things are illegal, yet they are done and have been done to me personally , all for being gay. As I wrote to you the ones doing it were good christians. In fact several who tried to make my life miserable at work were doing it to save my soul for Jesus. Again did you read what I wrote about changing gay or same sex to black or jewish in the same sentence? We had a whole civil rights movement about black people not being treated equally and fairly. Well they passed laws saying that if you have a public business or accommodation you must treat all members of the public the same. However christians are demanding the right to not follow those laws with regards to people who have non straight sexual orientation and activities. It is worse when it comes to taxpayer supported agencies that due to religious affiliation are demanding the right to discriminate against some taxpayers because of their sexual orientation and they are getting laws passed to allow it.

You do not seem to understand how it works. Think of it this way. If anyone with red hair is a pariah anywhere a holy book says red hair is an abomination, they don’t have to make the red hair illegal to totally discriminate and harass and yes assault / kill people with red hair. So despite homosexuality not being illegal people have suffered greatly for it at the hands of people who know what their lord god hates.

Again if the US becomes a theocracy as many christian leaders demand, then they will have christian sharia laws. It will be the same situation as islamic sharia laws. Sharia simply means religious based laws. Also you are wrong about the idea that any islamic society would kill gay people. Places predominantly muslim without being a theocracy have tolerated gay people. Some even gave them equal rights. Some are changing and getting regressive, that is true. Yet places like India are becoming much more open and tolerant.

I have explained to you several times in several comments that in regards to which religions are most threatening to a gay person in the US is christianity. I do not live in a islamic muslim country, I live here. So again the majority threat to me is not muslims, it is christians.

Funny thing. I was watching YouTube tonight. A high school senior fundamentalist christian boy had made a video on how evil gays , lesbians, and transgender people are because god says they are abominations. He knows it is a choice we can change because his god wouldn’t make us that way. He demands we change because we are sinning against god and will go to hell. We are making go angry. Wonder where he heard all that stuff? Hugs

          • I didn’t say you were being unfair to Christians but when you say danger the danger you’re referring to in the US is nothing compared to the danger you’d face in many other countries.

            I don’t disagree that both religions are equally bad and dangerous to homosexuals, I’m not saying the doctrine is necessarily worse in Islam;
What i’m saying is that in predominately Christian societies like the US we are protected from the doctrine of Christianity by the law. So because we are protected from the doctrine being enforced, we dont have to experience violence or death to gays.
It is far far worse to be homosexual in Islamic countries than Christian countries and that’s a fact.

            Comment by Amanda — April 9, 2018 @ 15:52

            • Amanda what you are saying now is not what you wrote before. I never said anything about my danger in other countries, reread our conversations. You simply kept saying christians were better than Muslims, I told you that I was in far more danger from christians. No other country was ever talked about until you mentioned it. I also told you that was because it was a theocracy and the same laws would happen if the US became a theocracy.
As to the separation of church and state it has been attacked and errodied for decades. The fact that our lawmakers use their christian beliefs to make civil laws is the point. It is mostly on the republican side of the isle but abortion, women’s rights, climate change, sexual expression ( female rights to control their sexuality ) and non-hetero cisgender issues are all talked about in relation to their religious views. Do you ever wonder why viagra is covered by insurance but many religious groups who support that, campaigned to have birth control medications removed from health coverage? It is men’s religious right to control a woman’s body according to the bible as a woman can not be the leader in family or church and shall have no authority over a man. According to the christian religion.
You seem to think that because it is against the laws gays are not persecuted by the religious. Wake up please. The religious claim a higher law, god’s laws. I told you to look up gay bashing. Please do and stop using your feelings as a way to deny the facts.
Also stop saying that christian countries are better than islamic ones. Fact the most non-religious countries are better at humans rights all way round than those with religious majorities but we are not talk about that and never have been. The only reason christian majority countries are better for gay people compared to islamic countries is the government’s. Most major islamic countries ( not all some are civil governments ) are theocracies. That means run by the religion. There are people who want to make christian theocracies. Many are trying here in the US. I keep telling you that if this country became a christian theocracy they would be just as bad or worse for gay people than the Islamic ones. The bible and the quran are both used as justification and they are just as bad. Understand this as I have written it before to you. The only reason that christians do not do more harmful shit to get their way is that they were defanged in the enlightenment. They lost the power they had. Islam never had that, so they still act as they did centuries ago. But understand Amanda christianity did not change, the christians did not change, they were put under civilian control. Do you remember a few years ago the famous case of the spoiled white daughter of a police chief and her friends attacked and badly hurt two gay guys. They made statements during the attack about how god says gays were abominations and god hates fags. She was on social media outraged that she was arrested and , wow, found guilty of a crime.

The fact is that christians are more a threat to gay people in this country than muslims. That is a fact. That is what I have been saying despite all your attempts to reword and shift the goal posts. Fact. Done with conversation as it has all been said and I am tired for repeating the same things. Look up gay bashing in the USA. Look up crimes committed by christians. Then compare them to the number of crimes committed by muslims. Hugs
