    • Amanda. Read the cartoon. I addressed this with you. Hugs

  2. How do you think black people shoot people so often ? WITH THEIR GUNS

    Comment by Amanda — April 4, 2018 @ 10:46

    • Do you know history Amanda? DO you know that when Reagan was governor of california they enacted strict guns controls. He pushed it. Know why? Black young men took advantage of their second amendment rights to do the same as white men and started walking around with guns. It scared the piss off the political bigwigs and gun control legislation was enacted, fast.

Now I know this is hard but READ the cartoon again and this time get the point. White christian men with guns commit far more violence than the Muslims in this country, yet the big outcry is against muslims, not the more numerous white christian men..

Amanda please try to understand the posts despite your ideology. Hugs

      • So you’re choosing to ignore the fact that blacks commit the most gun violence ?

        Comment by Amanda — April 4, 2018 @ 11:06

        • Not ignoring statistics, but I have an understanding of them. When factoring in all the factors the numbers make sense. But that takes reading and understanding. Something you clearly lack by not reading the the post. Read it again. If you can not understand it, read the responses I wrote to you again. Hugs

      • And you’re ignoring the fact that black Americans are predominantly Christian.

        • Amanda, you want to read the cartoon again. It is not about Black people, it is not about race alone, it is about white race religion privilege. In this country we hear a huge outrage against all Muslims if one muslim commits a crime. But a white guy shoots up a black church, no outcry against whites with guns. A white guy shoots up an outdoor concert and kills 57 people and hurts far more, and no outcry against white men. Want more, white fundamentalist homeschooled christian man commits a bunch of bombs in Texas yet no outcry against that group. But a Muslim does something and the WHOLE group is labeled as a threat. That is the whole point of the cartoon. Hugs

    • Hey there!

I have a couple points to some of the issues you’re raising here. First, the cartoons deal with proponents of Stand Your Ground laws and defenders of gun rights in the face of mass shootings. They don’t deal with gun violence in general, or any of the causes of gun violence in general.

Second, there is actual data which does show that black perpetrators commit more gun homicides than white perpetrators, but those numbers don’t take into account other factors. The Brennan Center for Justice actually released a report which highlights socioeconomic factors which appears to drive this violence. In other words, if you took crimes involving people in poverty out of the picture, gun violence would be closer to racial distribution in the country. It’s also important to note that the data involved does not take mass shootings into account, so the numbers of white gun violence are deflated somewhat.

Finally, the stereotypical advocates of gun ownership presented in the media are white conservative Christians. There are white people who get in front of a camera and declare their faith and race motivate what they do. By doing so, it’s more than fair to criticize the ideas they promote.

      • Thank you for the input S.B. Especially your second paragraph. I tried three times to write something like it but I stupidly let my emotions get the better of me and I was not writing my thoughts well. I wanted to use reason and instead got in to more emotion than I should have. In my defence, and it is not a good one, I got / am frustrated at the lack of reason.
        Be well. Hugs
