NRA obstructionism and gun control

  1. Hi Scottie;
    I was thinking of this somewhat recently when I’d passed my old high school when on the way to a job: The school has really changed, I was amazed to see, then had to recall that it has been some 30 years since I’d been the black sheep of that particular establishment. Nonetheless, it was with a bit of sadness that I considered the changes to the reality of students.
    There was an open air hallway that passed between buildings that I enjoyed using because it gave me a bit of fresh air, no matter how cold, in the midst of a stuffy and stifling school day. That has, of course, since been closed off as “unsafe”.
    And, I recall, the worst feeling I had to expect during the school day was that there would be a pop quiz, or that I didn’t do my homework, or that I was just never going to stay awake in civics class….. that teacher was SO boring and I was already working two jobs at that time.
    At no time, at absolutely NO time, did I ever consider the idea that someone would come into my classroom with a gun and shoot up the place.
    And, frankly, I don’t think many adults these days can imagine it. We are a strange species: our reality is dictated by our experiences, and changing information that doesn’t fit the experience is doubted at best and tossed out as unfit most often. How can I expect my father to consider the idea of how things have changed when he grew up taking his rifle to school on the school bus for the school sponsored gun club? How can we expect people who grew up hunting and target shooting to now realize that those very tools of the sport have turned to tools of terror for our young people?
    We have older adults who grew up safe looking down upon these students who have been terrorized in what is supposed to be one of the safest places and calling them liars and pansies because it couldn’t be all that bad. Could it?

    hugs, my brother;

    • Hello Randy. You said it very well. I agree. However we have to change with the times. What was once OK or not cared about today is taboo. We live, we learn, we grow. Well some do, the rest will have to be forced to grow even when they don’t want to. Hugs

  2. That second “cartoon” is too close for comfort. Thank Thor and others that my kids didn’t have to grow up under these conditions! But unfortunately, I have a great-granddaughter that starts school in another couple of years. 😟

    • It is a scary thought. I know if I had a child in school I would be very worried. Hugs
