    • Yes, we do not have a king in this country, we have an elected office for the term of their office. He forgets that. He thinks he walked into all power. He is not above the law. Our founding fathers wouldn’t have overthrown one king to sanction another in the government they created. Hugs

        • I agree. But at times I feel we are fighting our own democrat party to win. At least California seems to be coming out OK for us. I was worried. What a weird system they have. Hugs

          • Yeah, it worked out good for us there. Dems need to stop the bullshit and stick together. Repukes do it no matter who the candidates are. Pedophiles, sexual predators, draft-dodging traitors, it doesn’t matter. If they’re repukes, they always back ’em.

  2. Trump has committed so many abuses of power that he really ought to fill in “abuse of power” as his occupation on his tax return. Clearly he’s not fazed by the rules and norms that other Presidents have accepted.

But if he did announce a self-pardon, it’s hard to see what could be done about it, unless that act pushed enough Republicans over the edge to make impeachment feasible (even if we win House and Senate majorities this November, some Republican Senate votes would still be needed to reach the 2/3 majority for removal). If he were then prosecuted, it would be up to the courts to decide whether the self-pardon was valid.

One thing everybody agrees on is that a presidential pardon can’t cover state crimes. Very likely Trump, before taking the Presidency, engaged in dubious activities like money-laundering for which he could be charged under New York state law. Let’s hope someone is keeping that point squarely before his attention.

    • Well said. I think that the jury is out on if a president can really pardon themself. I keep hearing that no man may be his own judge is a fact of common law that our laws are based on. Also there is the whole corruption thing. They way that the president’s power is limited if it can be shown that the actions taken were corrupt or for a corrupt action.

As for the state crime angle I agree and think it is a smart thing that Robert Mueller sent the Cohen case to the state court, and he still can keep any part he needs for his federal case. Thanks for the comment. Hugs
