My attempt to comment on amanda’s blog and her irrational response. She went nuts!

  1. Hello Amanda. I will comment on your post and hope you will not delete it like you did my other comments. These are refugees fleeing for the lives of their children and themselves. They have no choice if they want their children to live but try to get them somewhere else, anywhere. Most of them do not make it to our border. Many have tried to come via legal means but our government has shut down almost all avenues for that. They have people who wait weeks on hot sidewalks to only keep being told we simply won’t process their paperwork or even interview for asylum. It is not against the law to cross a border to seek asylum, in fact you must do so. You can not ask for asylum without being in the country. By international law / treaty which the U.S. signed it is not illegal. Something we need to understand. The violence happening with gangs in the Central Americas is caused in a large part by us. Yes we started the problem of the major gangs there. MS-13 was started here in the U.S. in Los Angeles. We then deported the trouble to countries not able to deal with them. The drug cartels major buyers are people in the U.S. We drove them from columbia and they went to countries not able to stand up to them. SO we do have a responsibility to these people for the mess we helped cause. But even more importantly Amanda, the program derided as “catch and release” was working well. Over 90% of the people involved showed up at their hearings. That is a fact. So why the sudden need for this draconian policy of ripping kids from their parents. Jeff Sessions stated it was a deterrent. Do not come here with your kids or we will take them from you! Well they interviewed the people seeking asylum. They say they have no choice but come if they want to save their child’s life, so they would come anyway. it is lose the child by death or lose the child by being seperated from them in the U.S.

    Amanda if you were fighting for the life of your child, if you watched your other child be raped and murdered, if your son, a 7 year old , was told to join & and support the drug gang or his entire family would be killed, if you seen your children hacked to death in front of you, what the heck would you dare do to get them out of that? This is what these people face, and our government wants to make them monsters. Well the monsters are us.

    The solution is not children in cages, nor prisons for families. It is doing what worked before. Pour money and cooperation into the countries to help them take back their countries from drug cartels and gangs. Use our vast resources and military to wipe them out and drive them away. Immigration at the southern border was in a steep decline before tRump and his policies. The reason was because people could get what they needed to live in their own countries. No one leaves their country without reason. Hugs

    • Well let’s hope your comment is relevant and cohesive then and I won’t need to delete it;

      As far as people who choose to have children in a fucked up country and then force the children on the tax paying citizens and government of another country – If they are going to flee to somewhere, then I suggest either they get in line behind everyone else who we’re trying to document and process to immigrate in, or they flee to somewhere else;

      Because we as a whole don’t welcome undocumented, illegal migrants in America.

      As far as asylum and sanctuary cities go, they are an obstruction of justice, safety, security, and fairness to tax paying citizens.

      Frankly I don’t care if the kid is behind a wire fence or not, the parents shouldn’t have popped out the kid in a shit hole country then smuggled them into another country crying “someone has to look after them!”

      I say deport them all as soon as possible and make them get in the back of the line;
      However border patrol and immigration agencies are incredibly overwhelmed with the amount of illegal undocumented immigration, so there is no such thing as processing this mess in a timely manner.

      The mess that other governments and societies get their countries in is NOT the responsibility or problem of the United States, period.

      They need to stop breeding and start figuring out how to function more like America, instead of trying to work the system and take advantage of America and it’s citizens’ resources.

      • Amanda your first statement is a dodge. Every comment I made was on topic and backed up by data, but you were in a snit over our conversation on my blog. Facts dear Amanda are pesky things, they simply are.

        Get in line? I guess you fail to understand. There is simply no entry by line. The current government has closed the doors to any non-white entry. You have to be either from a majority white country or wealthy enough to buy a visa like Jared Kushner’s clients did. Well reported and factually documented. Like I said most of them never even try for here, they stay in the southern countries. Did you hear about that huge caravan of invaders that fox news kept telling broadcasting about? Well turns out it was a regular event, most never even bother to get his far, happens every few years, the people get together for safety and make the journey. Once at the border they turn themselves in. Yup, walk right up and say take me into custody. Dang bad way to do an invasion don’t you think.

        You do know that the current administration is trying to strangle any immigration from any country not majority white. Do you agree with that? Remember tRump’s comment about wanting more people from Norway ? Don’t pretend these are not bigoted racists. Facts are pesky things. By the way before you start getting huffy, I knew tRump long before he ran for office. Dear he really is a racist and a big time bigot.

        Actually we do welcome undocumented workers in this country. Agriculture in this country depends on them. Goggle how many undocumented workers in agriculture jobs.

        Illegal immigrants help fuel U.S. farms. Does affordable produce depend on them?

        https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/food/in-an-immigration-crackdown-who-will-pick-our-produce/2017/03/17/cc1c6df4-0a5d-11e7-93dc-00f9bdd74ed1_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.437419e75ca9
        Again it is simply a fact, something I tried to explain to you on my blog before you went all angry denial.

        Sanctuary cities. So much falsehood in your statement I am not sure where to begin. Let’s start with the definition of a sanctuary city.

        “Sanctuary cities” is actually a misnomer. While many Americans believe that it refers to a city that doesn’t prosecute immigrants, so-called “sanctuary cities” actually refer to something far more specific.

        There’s no single definition of what is a sanctuary city, but generally speaking, it’s a city (or a county, or a state) that limits its cooperation with federal immigration enforcement agents in order to protect low-priority immigrants from deportation, while still turning over those who have committed serious crimes. This is why we prefer the term “safe cities”.

        Those places that are called sanctuary cities became that way for two reasons. First they were asked by the federal government to take on immigration enforcement and detention with no allotment of federal resources. Only the federal government can enact or enforce immigration law according the the law. Other government agencies, such as sheriff offices and local law enforcement can act as deputies of those laws but are paid for by the local populations only. So the places being asked to do this asked for money to cover their expenses. The federal government refused, so they stopped doing the job of the federal government. This is simply documented history.
        Then comes the second part. Crime went down in those places where the local government refused to do the job of the border patrol or ICE.
        When people are afraid to report crimes then crime flourishes. You can understand that. Well in sanctuary cities people felt safe to report crimes so crime rates went down, more arrests were made, and more criminals taken off the streets. Again a desirable effect that has been proven in studies. Make people afraid to report a crime and crime soars. Illegal immigrants don’t cause most crimes, they are the victim of it. Again this is verified by data.

        You don’t care. Really? That says a hell of a lot more about you than it does them. “Shit hole country” You feel no responciblity for? You really strike me as selfish in that statement. Sorry calling it like I read it. No humanity for others, no concern for children? Really human of you.

        There has been increases in the border control budgets for years, and the amount of immigrants crossing has declined on the southern border. Again a provable fact. The hysteria is there is an invasion of brown people crossing into our country to rape and pillage, not work and get all the government services for free that the taxpayer must pony up the money for. Amanda we went over this on my blog. Those people can not get government assistance. No way. The most they can get is medical help in an emergency room, same as everyone else. The only draw on federal monies is the weird need to lock up the kids and parents separately and detain the them longer. Again a fact. They don’t get food stamps, they don’t get housing allowances, they don’t get welfare. Think on it, they can not even ask for it if they are illegal.

        The responsibility is all of ours as we caused most of it, still do and the fact is society is groups of people caring about the welfare of others. Do not expect others to care about you if you can not care about them.

        They are not trying to work the system Amanda, they are trying to survive in a world that they have little hope in. A world we helped create. They are not taking advantage of America. They give far more than they take. Again the data shows that. Immigrants commit less crime, their offspring go to higher education in greater numbers, heck several people running for congress are the children of recent immigrants, and we have several members of congress who are the children of recent immigrants. Look it up, we gain far more from immigration than it costs us, we always have. Right now we are begging high tech trained immigrants from india and other countries to come here. They don’t want to mostly for the current climate. Our leading tech companies can not get enough qualified workers here so they must look abroad. Look at the waves of immigration in our history, the Irish, the chinese, the Jewish populations, so many more. Each time we grew stronger and more vital. Influx of new blood and cultures has made our country great. Don’t stifle that now with a bad understanding of our history and the current facts.

        I know many of these things from first hand knowledge living with large immigrant populations and from reading studies and reports. I have seen other cultures while living in their lands and enjoyed what they had to offer. I served in the armed forces and went to many other countries. I have traveled the U.S. I am telling you the truth of the situation.

        Be well. I have to proof read this and hope I catch all the typos. Hugs

  3. I don’t want America giving Israel millions of our tax dollars each year, that’s a waste. We also spend billions on our defense budget that doesn’t include improvements for the lives of our men and women serving. Some folks cherry pick what they do or don’t want our money to go toward. Many people have forgotten their basic humanity and decency. America shouldn’t strive to be great but to be humble.

    • Thank you Carmen. I admit I was shaken. I guess I try to deal with people as I hope they would deal with me. I try to be reasonable and see the argument they are making. As I have done with Mel. I felt I had to screen capture and post this because this is the second time she had turned nasty on me and she is in our group now because of me. Ark engaged her on my blog and then on hers. She spread out from there. I feel responsible. I am at lost on what more I could do at this point. I felt I need to put this out there. The weird thing is, until she went total melt down on me I was willing to talk to her. After all I could show the data I was talking about, I could show my points were real. But each time between her and I it has come down to race.

      You know Ron and I just had a conversation about this. I never felt any race pride or superiority. I have lived my life with other skin colors, and ethnic backgrounds. I simply do no have this seperiourity thing. I don’t feel it. I really don’t understand it. I can not see the difference it makes if your skin is one tone or the other, heck I can remember my adoptive sisters trying desperately to darken their skin every summer. I learned a lot in my time in the military and the countries I went to. I admire the good I found in them, as there was some good. This new white nationalize is both weird and scary to me. Hugs

During the run in with her on my blog, which ran about a week long I went to her blog and left a comment on a post she did about the two black men in the Starbucks coffee shop incident. She had the details wrong , so I left a comment correcting them. She deleted my comment, even though I never deleted the nasty ones she had left on my blog. So yesterday I noticed a mention about her on Arks blog, I went to Mel’s and read her posts and she seemed reasonable again. So as she was engaging several of our community I figured I would read and comment on one of her posts. You see the result. I won’t bother again, she is too unstable and not worth it. What is sad is she is so badly misinformed. Thanks. S.B. Hugs

      • It sounds like she got your goat and rode it around the room, Scottie. It happens to the best of us.

        I left a comment over on her post, but the formatting got messed up so I’m not sure if she’ll respond to it or not. It seems from what she wrote that her ultimate concern is with the safety of allowing people to immigrate without going through the process. I think it’s a fair point to the extent that people have come here in the past and committed felonies when they arrived. While these are extreme cases, I think there are enough to warrant reflection on how our immigration process functions.

        With regards to detaining children, I think the more disturbing thing about all of that is the fact that there wasn’t much reporting on it during previous presidencies. This has been going on for a lot longer than Trump, and it’s had bipartisan support from Congress and the Oval Office. Fixing it is going to require action in Congress, but I don’t know if that’s possible as long as immigrants are used as political capital.

        • Hello S.B. I disagree with you based on my prior interaction with her. She is totally against immigration on the southern border. She is the one who went off on me S.B. I was calmly giving her information she seemed to not be aware of, and she got angry. She has done that in the past on the subject of immigrants from south of the border.

          I am not saying that we should have open borders, I am saying that the process we had before the new tRump Admin new zero tolerance policy was working.

          According to June 2017 written testimony from U.S. Border Patrol Acting Chief Carla Provost, since fiscal year 2012 U.S. Border Patrol apprehended 159 unaccompanied alien children with confirmed or suspected gang affiliations. Of the 159 children, 56 were suspected or confirmed to be affiliated with MS-13, according to Provost.

          (Around 45,400 unaccompanied minors, on average, were apprehended per fiscal year from 2012 to 2017.)

          159 suspected gang members out of over 45 thousand doesn’t seem like much of a crime problem. Studies show that more crimes are committed by native Americans than immigrants.

          The thing is you can not compare what is happening now under the zero tolerance separation policy and the unaccompanied minors dealt with during the Obama presidency. That is comparing apples to oranges. Unaccompanied minors in large numbers were hitting the border. Many were very young children, not even teens. They had to be taken care of, fed, housed , processed. The Obama administration did all the could to get those children in to homes as quick as possible, but many did need to be housed on military bases and other places. The difference was the Obama administration was not automatically separating families at the border. The children were not separated from parents making it necessary to house them for long periods of time. The policy was to as quickly as possible process the adults and release them to family , friends ,, or other supporting adults in the country. They then had to report back for their hearings. It was working . Over 90% came back for the hearings. That is not what tRump was doing. Jeff Sessions made a speech where he said if you come to the border illegally ( which you have to do to ask for asylum ) with a child the child will be taken from you. The idea was it would be a deterrent. The sad fact is these people had no choice either way. The son’t come they lose their child to death, if they come the child is taken away and they may never see them again.

          I would like to see money and effort made to really set up a processing system, to do it properly. It can be done, look at the military processing centers. They move huge amounts of people hourly. But our current government doesn’t want to have immigrants from these countries and won’t even process the claims at the stations on the border to do it. That has been reported. People who wait everyday in line have been told to leave as no claims will be processed. You can not fix a broken system if you do not want the system to exist.

          I agree the immigrants are being used as political pawns. That is a shame we will have to live with for a long time. It is not who we think we are as a country but that is really what we have become.

          Thanks for the comment S.B. I enjoy talking with you. Hugs

          • “The thing is you can not compare what is happening now under the zero tolerance separation policy and the unaccompanied minors dealt with during the Obama presidency.”

            Actually, you can. It was all in the Frontline documentary I pointed out a few weeks back. The Obama administration’s policy was abused so that unaccompanied minors could get used as child slave labor. Thus, the difference between the Obama policies and Trump policies really only is a matter of where those kids ended up. Both had terrible endings that shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

            I want to be clear that I’m not saying one bad turn excuses the other or somehow gives Trump a pass for his bad policies. I am saying that simply going back to the status quo ante isn’t acceptable, either. If there is any chance kids can get exploited after entering our immigration system in any capacity, that chance needs to get eliminated.

            As to the other things you pointed out, some of them are not points that I raised. What I’m trying to suggest here is that there are valid concerns people have about immigration policy. Also, I’m not trying to suggest that you’re supporting an open policy.

            All that said, I understand that this is a difficult subject. I apologize for bringing it up. You won’t have to worry about it from me ever again.

            Thanks.

            • S.B. don’t apologize for bringing up the topic, it is a valid topic to talk about. I am enjoying talk with you on it. especially as I am a bit confused so want to clear up something I may have missed.

              First if I misunderstood your comment and answered stuff you did not ask, I apologize. I really did try to address what I thought you were mentioning.

              There is one spot of confusing on my part. I did not see the frontline Documentary. I will look it up. Where I am confused is the idea of separating parents and children at the border automatically. My understanding is that was only done during the Obama presidency if the parent had to go to detention for an extended time. My understanding is the current crisis was created by the mandatory separation of the parents and children by the new policy. IF I am wrong I stand corrected. That is where I was saying the two policies were not the same.

              I agree I do not want kids exploited or abused. I have heard people say on TV that these kids are with sex traffickers or that people are just grabbing kids to try to use them to get into the country. I find that hard to believe that a lot of that is going on.

              We seem to be in agreement on the need for a better immigration system. I agree with vetting, and I think we need a better processing system as I said. I think we need to put more money in to getting the people processed and either settled or returned. But I admit I do not have the specifics of what that would take. I find the only thing I could compare it to was the times I have been in military processing centers and how smoothly everything flowed.

              S.B. if I am still not understanding your point, please let me know. I am not angry or dismissive of your ideas. In fact I am interested in the documentary you mentioned. Be well. Hugs

Can’t say much for her reply. I keep trying to get her to understand that the immigrants she is talking about actually pay taxes, some like social security they can never get back. The U.S. Makes billions a year on the taxes paid into the system by illegal working immigrants. I explained to her illegals can not get government assistance in any form, to ask for it would reveal their status. But she is convinced they are sucking the hard working taxpayer dry. Oh well.   8. Hi Scottie;
    -please forgive the following novel. I didn’t expect this when I started the comment-
    After reading through this, I come to the old phrase: “you can lead a horse to water….”. I don’t live in L.A., El Paso, etc. I live in the middle of white bread republican mid-America. For the most part, I don’t have any experience in dealing with anything like MS13 or whatever, though there are gangs and such here as well at whatever level. I recognize my ignorance, plead it ahead of time even, and having done so hope to understand where someone is coming from in their own responses to what is going on.
    To be fair, I do believe that the problems that have been created by a somewhat porous border have gotten too far. I do believe that anyone coming to America should do so legally. I do believe that we are all in this together, this so called “melting pot”, and each of us needs to give as required so that each of us can take as needed.
    Now… I also believe that because some have benefited from the illegal status of workers by using them as slave type labor, our dear president included, and it is quite the hubris that allows these folks to beat the drum of victim now. I believe that acknowledging the illegal population and seeking a reasonable response that allows people to be complete in what has become their home, by hook or crook, should be found and continued and we can still be the land of the free and home of the brave for the needful people of the world rather than the grumpy old man down the road that we have shown ourselves to be (frankly, it’s embarrassing). And, lastly, at the risk of playing the “what-about” card, I am less than impressed by the claims of how we are all victims of these people who come here, don’t pay their “fair” share of taxes, receive our benefits, etc., while completely surpassing the glaring mote in the eye, the huge elephant in the room, of rich and influential people who have managed to craft the system into a shape where they pay less in taxes than their secretary.
    So, no, I do not believe Miss Amanda will be swayed by your constructive, objective, reasonable arguments. Caring for others, even when that care requires you to look beyond yourself, is an act of bravery that makes no rational sense. We seem to be governed by fear all to often, and continuing that, by the fearful all too often. We believe ourselves short on resources, yet squander those resources to those who have excess upon excess and deny those who simply want to eat, live, grow. We believe ourselves victims in waiting, only a moment away from being cast from safety by thugs and criminals around every corner, and so arm ourselves and luxuriate upon the weapons of our choice only to find ourselves more the victim of our own sword than ever a criminal could show. And, we rail against the petty thieves while our own guards and leaders rob us blind and feel justified in that because our guards are ours, our leaders are ours. We call ourselves a “Christian Country”, yet routinely fail to live by those tenants expressed some 2,000 years ago and failed to be realized ever since.
    Miss Amanda, I do not blame you for your responses to Scottie. You are afraid and blaming those who can’t fight back. Fearful people rarely make responses that are not overtly self-centered. I do wish you well and I hope you can learn something from what Scottie has tried to tell you, and I would so love to see your passion directed at those actively seeking to harm our nation rather than those seeking to survive.
    hugs;

    • Good morning Randy. It is a grand comment you wrote, very thoughtful. I agree with you. One other point, did you see that some in the white house want to make the children of immigrants who are born here not citizens? I have heard this before from some in congress like notorious white supremacist Steve King. I don’t get why they are so afraid of people who are not white. What the heck is going on in their minds? Have a great day. Hugs

  9. Great morning read. I laughed. I cried. I even wet my pants, just a little. I think you should make a sitcom outta this. You could call it, “A Guy Getting Yelled At…A Lot.” You’ll get rich by selling ads for Risperdal and Thorazine during the show. Then you can retire to nice peaceful, Hawaiian island, bring your cats, get a dog and a pet iguana, and live happily ever after. Well, that is unless people demand a sequel to the show. But, you could turn that over to me, and I’ll make a show called, “Another Guy Who Gets Yelled At..A Lot,” and then I can get rich selling ads for the same neuroleptic drugs. 🙂

    • I love the idea. We could alternate getting yelled at. Are there enough angry yelling people out there to keep the show going? 🤔🙄🤩😃😄😉😋😎 Hugs

  10. First, I’ve been tied up with company for the past few days so I’m a late-comer to this discussion. Second, I haven’t read all the comments, but the following by Randy really stood out to me …

    … those who have excess upon excess and deny those who simply want to eat, live, grow. — This is clearly being seen in the current administration … but it’s pretty common among several in the general population as well. I’m reminded of that old saying … “What’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine too.”

    And a quick comment on immigration. SB commented I think it’s a fair point to the extent that people have come here in the past and committed felonies when they arrived. No doubt. But why do we single out the immigrants? Native-born and naturalized are not exempt.

    • “First, I’ve been tied up with company…” I’ve been tied up with duct tape recently. No idea how it happened or who did it. My guess is the Nobel Prize Committee broke into my home whist I slept and did it to me. They’ve been out to get me ever since I gave myself a Nobel Prize. The bastards.

    • Hello Nan. I hope you are having fun with your guests. I agree with your comment. I was enjoying my discussion with S.B. but I must have offended him somehow. I hope He will reply again. Be well. Hugs

  11. One of the things that upsets me is when people start the yada, yada argument about immigrants coming here to live off American taxpayers. I wish they lived in my neck of the woods. Where I live, there is a large community of Bosnian immigrants. In that community, there are incidences where the husbands leave their wife and children. The women can barely speak, read and write English. They don’t have cars — don’t drive, and are afraid of using public transportation so they walk miles to get to offices of state agencies to seek help. NO GOVERNMENT AGENCY will give them money nor food stamps until they produce a certified copy of filing for divorce or legal separation. They have no money for lawyers. A local church has tried organizing people to help them, including translators. Before I retired, I remember meeting a Bosnian immigrant who, with saddened eyes and a lowered head, said to me, “my children are hungry.” I got on the phone and gathered the troops, so to speak.

    In other words, it’s not only Brown people who leave their native countries and come here. The basic human needs of housing, clothing and shoes, and food, should not be denied to them. It’s the least that America can and MUST do.

      • For sure, along with a dose of more information to know what is happening with immigration, and not just with the southern border. I know a lawyer who works in immigration. He told me about a client from Turkey who outstayed his welcome. (That’s what they call it when VISA’s and other permissions expire.) Immigration was going to deport him, but they had one major problem. Where he was born, the church retained birth and marriage records. Those churches with all their documents were burned down. Turkey refused to take him back because he has no proof of being born there. So, about every 3 months, he has to report to immigration where they ask how he’s doing and he is given more temporary papers.

        As an aside to something else mentioned in your post, when I think of what people from Central America go through to reach the U.S. border, it reminds me of what slaves went through to escape to safety. Can you imagine if people in free states and Canada argued that the conditions they escaped from were caused by themselves? Oh — to walk a mile in the shoes of others before opening mouth.

  12. As a point of interest, I’d just like to throw something in here — from https://www.us-immigration.com/blog/how-much-does-it-cost-to-apply-for-us-citizenship/

    “The current filing fee (cost) for Form N-400, the Application for Naturalization costs $725 (updated-2018). This includes the $640 citizenship application fees and the $85 background check cost, also known as the biometric fee.” (bolding added)

    How many immigrants have this kind of money?

    • Thank you Nan, I did not know the costs. One thing that has worried me is the push to go back over naturalized citizens paperwork to see if they can have that citizenship revoked. The other thing is some congress members have talked about doing away with the children of immigrants ( legal ones ) being citizens because they were born here. That would take changing the constitution I think, but in today’s charged climate I think they may try. To me most of this comes down to fear. Fear of the loss of status and power. Fear of the other who is different. But look at how many different foods from all different cultures we all enjoy now. Hugs
