This Valedictorian Was Kicked Out of His Christian Parents’ Home for Being Gay

Filed under: Bigotry, Children, Education, Family, Harm, Homosexual, News, Questions, Religion — Scottie @ 13:21

When Seth Owen was a high school sophomore, his father found out Seth was gay… and he was quickly sent to a counselor (for conversion therapy).

“They made it clear the intention was to make me straight. (That) was their end goal.”

It didn’t work. Seth was still gay. (Shocking!) For a couple of years, this is what life was like until his parents realized Seth was still gay despite their best efforts to turn him straight. Their church didn’t help either, since the pastor was one of those conservative, anti-women’s rights, anti-gay types. Seth asked if they could attend a different church, but that plea went nowhere.

    • Thank you. It amazes me some people are so willing to turn their back on their own children. How does a parent go from loving their child and then hating them so quickly, especially when they are still children. How is that practicing christian love? Hugs

      • It’s as if they were just waiting for the opportunity
        to abandon. I dont understand it from any parent for any reason whether it political or religious or sexual identity or orientation or just straight up narcissistic parent. No child deserves to carry this with them and they do. Just one more thing to overcome

        Well…..

        Ah, the problem begins to come into focus. Like the parasites that can actually modify a host animal’s behavior and direct it to serve the parasite’s survival rather than its own, fanatical religious belief seems to be able to override even the strongest of normal human impulses. The belief is reified and becomes more real to the infected person than the flesh-and-blood humans being damaged by it. Think of the “honor killings” of girls by their own families in some Muslim societies.

        Or as Voltaire put it more concisely, those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

      • He showed more mental toughness than should ever be demanded of one that age — or of anyone.

  4. His parents are stupid ignorant losers that don’t deserve a fine son like this. I would be and am so proud of him.

    It disgusts me how evil religious people can be.

  6. Those christians are indeed anti-christs. Not to forget: His “parents” have given him their genes, so these so called parents are really stupid cowards, fleeing their responsibility by resorting to stupid religious excuses. And their son still owns THEIR genes.

    • Yes, how do they take a myth they can not prove over a child that is right there and part of them. It is very sad and strange to me. Hugs

  7. Hi Scottie;
    Imagine a day, I would ask someone from our history…. Imagine a day when there would be such a case: We have a man in the presidency who is known for his infidelity, fraud, racist sympathies, deceptions and outright lies, who cozies up to dictators and speaks ill of allies, and yet the far religious right embrace him. Then, we have this young man, this teenager still in high school, a child even, who is valedictorian of his class, hard working and trying to build funds to go to an already accepted Georgetown University is tossed out of his home not because he is a liar, cheater, racist, etc…. nope. It’s because he is gay. Guess we finally found what Trump would have to do to be impeached.

    I like that he has a go-fund-me page that has gotten such great success already. This young man is going to be a force to be reckoned with one day, maybe even president. Imagine how proud we could be!

    hugs;
    randy

    • Good Morning Brother! How are you doing. I agree with you. Did I mentioned Ron got the front wall sided and sealed? Oh it looks so good. James came over yesterday, he needed to use the hair tools to cut his hair and beard. He took his beard off and cut his hair to a fuzzy nub. Hope all is well for you. How is the new bike riding going? Hugs
