My rant on the unite the right march, confederate battle flag, and Nazis.

  1. Actually, it’s not quite true that you don’t see these nutballs marching with German flags. Some people at Charlottesville were carrying swastika flags, including at least one with the black swastika in a white circle on red — the official flag of Nazi Germany (the present-day flag of democratic Germany looks completely different, of course). You don’t see that in Germany, though, because the Germans have completely repudiated the atrocities of their ancestors. It’s mostly in the US that you see these weirdos carrying Nazi and Confederate flags.

Hitler was not even a very good leader. An intelligent leader would not have led his country into the position of fighting an all-out war against the British Empire, the Soviet Union, and the United States all at the same time. There is such a thing as biting off more than you can chew! The early Nazi military successes were due to his generals, whom he later turned against. And as you say, in the end he couldn’t face the Russians and pay the price for the atrocities he had committed against them. He committed suicide and abandoned the nation he had led into disaster. His skull ended up kept as a sort of trophy in the Soviet military archives in Moscow, an ignominious fate for a man who had hoped to dominate the world.

It’s amazing that the modern alt-right so strongly self-identifies with losers and failures. The Confederacy was crushed by the stronger armies of the industrialized North and its effort to preserve slavery defeated forever. Nazi Germany inflicted such horrors on the rest of Europe that its very name became a synonym for evil, then it was bombed into ruins, occupied by its enemies, and had one-quarter of its national territory permanently ripped away and transferred to Poland and Russia.

Today’s wingnut rally in DC was a flop, by the way. According to one report I’ve seen, only a couple dozen of them showed up, far outnumbered by thousands of counter-protesters. Guess they got the message after so many neo-Nazis who were identified at Charlottesville got fired from their jobs and ostracized socially.

But I’m not really surprised that they identify with regimes that attacked the US while claiming to love the US. They’re learning to love Russia, which also attacked the US by subverting the 2016 election.

    • You said it well, very well. I guess I did misspeak on the German flag, I was thinking of the current one. You nailed the whole thing. I am glad to see there was a poor turn out on the white national side. There may be hope for this nation yet. The Russia thing I still can not understand, these people went from rabid anti-Russia to loving Russia almost over night? Hugs
