Do you …

  1. I suppose it’s a bit unfortunate that we talk about creation as if it was a sort of cake mixed and iced by some supernatural power. Charles Darwin was at pains to point out that natural selection ( notice not unnatural selection) was not an external power but an internal driver without plan or direction.
Common sense tells us that such a driver must be amoral although curiously it led eventually to moral beings like ourselves. Even ardent supporters of evolution would not be happy with a social system based on nature , to quote Richard Dawkins in his book ‘The Selfish Gene ‘ :
” If you want to build a society in which individuals cooperate — don’t expect any help from genes. ‘

    • Good Morning Kersten. The way I understand evolutionary pressures it did lead to us developing morals. As we are not well designed species for survival so we need the herd mentality. Simply put we are better in groups. But being in a group requires some accommodations. We developed empathy based on what we felt and so we could understand how others would feel. As our brains got bigger and better, we can see how we would develop more standards for communal living.

But I think you are talking about the second meme. The one about a virus created in a lab and released. The meme makes fun of the fact that fundamentalist religious people think both god is all good and god created everything. Well it can not be both. Have a good morning. Hugs

      • Scottie I think believers would reply , we live in a fallen world , not in the New Jerusalem which will be perfect in God’s world and the lion shall lie down with the lamb. Often believers have a horror of ‘ nature is red in tooth and claw ‘ just as many of us do , but as with us all this is mixed up with our enjoyment of meat consumption, and the necessity of protecting our own food source.
The thing about life is it is a great compromise , not just for Christians but for us all , some claim that science gives us consistency but just look as the moral problems it throws up as civilisation advances.

        • I don’t think that reply from Christians would address the meme. The meme is saying if god is all good, he wouldn’t have created things like parasitic worms that eat kids eyes out. IF he created everything he created the bad things. so it is a contradiction. Fallen world of not, they can not claim god created everything including this world we live in and god is all good.

I agree life is a compromise. The problem is one group doesn’t want to compromise. That is the fundamentalist Christians, they are like republicans in that to them a compromise is they get their own way on everything. Hugs

          • I won’t play devils advocate , but you must have experienced all sorts of answers and I’m sure you are aware Christian apologetics is highly advanced with some first class brains supporting it.
