Brett Kavanaugh Confirmation: Hello Christian Theocracy; Goodbye Church-State Separation

Goodbye separation of church and state – hello Christian theocracy: Dramatic change is coming with the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh’s successful confirmation to the Supreme Court last week despite an intemperate, childish, and belligerent performance during his senate confirmation hearings, as well as credible allegations that he sexually assaulted multiple women as a young man, will reshape the court in dramatic fashion, threatening the separation of church and state, and promising the nightmare that would be a Christian theocracy.

During this confirmation process, our worst fears about Kavanaugh’s record, judicial philosophy, and temperament were confirmed. He has repeatedly shown himself to be a partisan ideologue who is more interested in protecting religious privilege for politically powerful sects than standing up for true religious freedom.

Kavanaugh’s views on religious issues are deeply outside the mainstream and threaten decades of precedent on issues ranging from taxpayer subsidy of religion and proselytizing in public schools, to civil rights protections for LGBTQ Americans and access to reproductive health care for women.

  1. Christians promoting a liar and actually saying they don’t care if he committed sexual assault , they still back him forfeits their right to call themselves Christians. They should read the Bible they force down everyone’s throat .

    • I agree with your feelings about them, but didn’t the bible say if a man raped a woman she had to marry him? He just pays her father ( not her ) and takes her as property. No real punishment for him, but a lot for her. So these christians supporting kavanaugh even though he lied, has many sexual assault accusations against him are jsut following their holy book. What really blows my mind is after supporting Kavanaugh, supporting tRump these same high and mighty christians ( like Franklin Graham ) still think they have the right to lecture the rest of us on morality. They still claim they are the moral high ground and LGBTQ are destroying the country. Oh I forgot they call it their country, just theirs. Be well. Hugs

  2. Separation of church and state is a idealistic fantasy.Politicians need votes and religious lip service guarantees catatonic, rabid voter support.. It’s like shooting deer in the headlights – callous, calculated and predictable. Sigh.
What truly frosts this Canadian is constitutional jibber-jabber. America’s founding fathers excluded women and minorities from casting votes, elected politicians where white men elected by white men.Yikes!!!

    • This is why I see the constitution as a living document which needs to be changed with times. The people who want the document carved in stone , static, never changing do not understand that the founding fathers were not gods, but educated wealthy white men who did the best they could at the time. The founding fathers knew changes would be made from time to time, that is why they included the means to amend the constitution. Hugs
