  1. It’s a little unclear what’s going to happen in Taiwan, because there’s been a court ruling that requires the government to open up marriage to gay people in some form. But a referendum in which the people rejected the idea will certainly energize the opposition. Still, opinion can shift rapidly. It’s only ten years ago that California passed proposition 8, but today gay marriage is accepted there and has been for some time.

Taiwan would have been the first non-Western country to allow gay people to marry (assuming South Africa is considered a Western country). Something to consider when people bash Western culture.

I have no time for Assange. He’s a monster. Through his whole career he’s leaked information that has put people’s lives in danger, and he doesn’t care.

The school Nazi salute photo could be a useful moment in its way. The school is right to uphold First Amendment protections for freedom of expression and show that they apply even in extreme cases. I’m sick and tired of people who claim to be for freedom of expression but then always turn around and find some excuse to say “this isn’t a case of freedom of expression, it’s a case of blah blah blah” as soon as they’re the ones being offended. But from now on, every time a school tries to limit the expression of ideas by students, this needs to be thrown in their faces — “if Nazi salutes are free expression, so is this!” If a childish attempt to promote fascism can be turned into an effective tool for promoting freedom, so much the better.

    • Grand thoughts. I just wish the US did not export anti LGBTQ hate to the rest of the world. Remember the “kill the gays” bill in one African country? That was the work of Scott Lively. If these religious people would stay out of other countries business there would be a lot less hate against LGBTQ world wide. It doesn’t hurt them and yet they work hard as possible to deny rights to others. Bastards. It makes me so angry. Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Hugs
