He doesn’t understand who pays for the tariffs. He thinks the country sending the goods do. That is wrong. The company importing the item pays the tariff which they then pass on the the consumer. Us , we the people pay the damn tariff.

  1. Hi Scottie;
    Typical tRump; in the most elementary form, a tariff does put a penalty on imports and supports local production of the same product, while generating revenue for the government. The idea being that people will more likely choose the domestic alternative. Of course, it depends on the fact that a domestic alternative is actually available and/or, that said business doesn’t do global merchandising. Otherwise…. yeah, it just makes things more expensive and can actually drive jobs away. We have a customer who ships parts overseas to be assembled there rather than locally because of the tariffs back and forth. They are now investing in molding operations overseas and have already cut their assembly force here.

    • Hello Brother. Yes it is better to have as much of an equal trade as possible. About the tariffs, as you know we recently bought a Ford Escape top of the line. However after the tariffs on steel and stuff our car is now 25% more expensive. Did you see the stock market slide. This administration will get us into a recession if not a depression. Have a great night. Hugs

  2. I can never understand why hardened capitalists who are supposed to be all for free trade have anything whatever to do with tariffs . My suspicion is they shout about free trade but use tariffs when it suits their purposes. Often we find capitalism has an insidious undercurrent like paying very low wages so the tax payer has to support their employees.

    • Good Morning Kersten. For tRump it is he simply doesn’t understand. He thinks he is hurting the countries that he puts tariffs on. He doesn’t understand the trade deficit is because we buy more from others than we sell. He thinks these countries “are stealing money from us”, which is wrong. So he is hurting the ones who voted for him and losing business for the US. Hugs
