Tennessee GOP Tries Again To Ban Same-Sex Marriage

Filed under: Asshole / Jerk, Bigotry, Fascism, Gender, Hate, Homosexual, News, Political, Questions, Religion — Scottie @ 09:43

Again notice a politician saying “god told him…”  We need to get religion out of politics.  This is another attempt to force a religious view on people who do not share that view by enshrining their religious views into secular laws.   What about all the gay people in the state, what about all the other people who think marriage rights should be for all consenting adults including same sex couples.   This is why I fight abusive religions and people who use their religion as a club to harm others.  Hugs

Known as the “Tennessee Natural Marriage Defense Act,” the bill by Sen. Mark Pody, R-Lebanon, and Rep. Jerry Sexton, R-Bean Station, states that the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015 decision to legalize same-sex marriage is void in Tennessee because the state has already passed its own law and constitutional amendment limiting marriage to one man and one woman.

The bill would prohibit government officials — presumably including clerks issuing marriage certificates — from giving recognizing any court ruling that affirms same-sex unions, and specifies they cannot be arrested for failing to comply with court orders that do so.

Mark Pody, you may recall, has appeared on JMG multiple times, first in late 2015 when he declared that God had personally told him to stop same-sex marriage. According to Pody, White Jesus has tasked him with being a “watchman” to warn the wicked that the wages of their same-sex sin will be death. In 2017, Pody was the lead sponsor of his state’s anti-transgender “bathroom bill” – which failed to pass out of its committee.

  1. Religion is offensive and dangerous. People have been killed for no more than being themselves. Religious beliefs effect their emotional equilibrium and reasoning. Some would say it’s pathological. Maybe conversion therapy would be in order. A taste of a medicine they should appreciate if not deem to be safe and affective.

    • Hello Nation. Sort of what is good for the goose is also good for the gander? I wonder if they would see the irony of that? Hugs

  2. “God told him” …. which is the voice in his own head that he calls “god”.

    • Hello SAQ. Yes I agree, but is not always the voice of “god” the voice inside your own head? There is an old saying about how “it is clear how god hates the same things and people I do”. I think if a person has a good foundation in empathy and fair play they tend to have more understanding gods. If you have a fundamental / Evangelical foundation your god tends to be angry and cruel, demanding and punishing. Hugs

  3. If religion contradicts Law, for instance, becaus priestly beasts again fuck Kids, send the upper clergy to prison – for not having interferdesince hundreds of years. And tell them during services – again and again -, that THEY are responsible for the pooor state of their religions and churches.

    • Hello Miles. I think you are correct. The child abusers have no care for those they leave harmed and suffering, but when the upper echelon of these groups have to go to prison and suffer they will quickly put a stop to it. Think now that the cardinals and those top leave people are being charged and found guilty how they are finally making changes and pretending they really cared. Hugs

  4. I would think Tennessee should address their incest problems first, but I imagine this try against same sex marriage will end in our favor. It is frustrating to know their are still people like this in positions of power.

    • Hello Jim. I can not say how angry I am getting at the people who want to take our country back to times when there was not equal rights. How do they justify that? They seem to forget that those same holy books were used to justify bigotry and racism against POC and other religions. They were also used to justify slavery. Yet these people never learn giving more equality and fair play, benefits everyone including them. What is worse these people feel embolden in these times. Hugs

      • From my experience Scottie, the stricter the laws the deeper the closets. Look at Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana incest laws. The toughest by a long shot. Why? They need them! Lol. I’m pretty certain this lawmaker has some deeply gay tendencies that are conflicting his beliefs. These are the ones that usually get caught at it.

        • Hello Jim. I agree, and it seems others do also. On a slightly different subject, why do we have laws letting girls as young as 12 get married and when legislatures tried to change that the local religious leaders were the ones that were outraged and managed to block it? What does that say about the religion that they want to be able to marry off girls that young? Weird, and they have no shame about it. Drives me nuts. Hugs

  6. Bet you five bucks this Pody fellow is hammering himself to gay porn. Any time anyone is THAT dead-set on banning something, it’s because they’re into it themselves, but somehow ashamed of it. (And it’s religion that forced him to be ashamed of it.) If there really was a just and loving God, it would set this man free from his self-imposed prison.

    • Hello Anderson. You have a great point, it seems that way doesn’t it. When I think of the anti-gay types who get found out that they are gay it is so frustrating and angering. I think people like the Log Cabin Republicans must really have self loathing they way the vote for people that hate them and want to hurt them. Hugs

    • There does seem to be some causality between the gay haters and the closeted gays. Amusing when that little tidbit becomes widely known.

All believers are hypocrites at some level… And usually completely blind to it.

    • Hello Shelldigger. They need you man! Someone has to lead them into the current century. They are still stuck in the 1800’s. It is a hard job we are asking of you, but we are sure you are up for it. You be the man for the job. Sorry to ask you to take one for the good of the nation, but your one of the few good ones who have not married your sibling(s) still left standing there. Hugs

      • I am outnumbered and outgunned Scottie. It is a zombie horde of x-ian assholes here. In all of my years here I have met exactly one atheist, and he is a good friend of mine. We have been recording music together.

Oh, and I raised up a few atheists along the way. Of the 5 kids (not all mine biologically) I have had a hand in raising, 4 are atheist, and the one who went religious has some mental issues. So I did what I could there.

I haven’t outed myself as an atheist here, though there are some who know. My youngest still has a couple of years left in high school. Once he is done there, I won’t be so quiet.

    • By the way I can not talk , I live in Florida. We are in the national news daily for dumb shit. Other states keep denying they are in the same union as Florida. Talk about embarrassment, where else does drunk white trash get arrested for robbing the liquor store … with a live alligator. Not sure if he was captured by the police or animal control? Yes it is a true story. Hugs

  10. Historically Christians have been on the wrong side of EVERY social issue in America.

Here is why Marriage is for all consenting adults.

It’s a law that grants rights and privledges to those protected by it. That was why I said as soon as you sue under equal protections either all marriages are not recgnized or all need to have the option to enjoy it’s protections.

    • Hello Michelle. I agree with you. Sadly the Evangelical /Fundamental christians do not. They seem to say their ideas of what their holy book records as 2000 year old moral judgments on the subject over rides our secular laws. Hugs

      • Then I challenge any one of them to leave out these words. “By the power vested in me by the state of xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx” as well as to not file the marriage license and then file any federal form claiming legal marriage like taxes.

Oh but wait that would make it mans law if you had to do those things….

Course arguing logic with evangelicals is pointless. They are taught blind loyalty.
