The Black Death is back, and so are these other diseases you thought were gone

However, in recent years, some of the deadly diseases that we thought were the stuff of history books are back with a vengeance in many parts of the world — and not just in developing countries.

Why are preventable diseases making a comeback?

In the US, a recent outbreak of measles has been linked to a rise in unvaccinated children. Up to 40 percent of American parents are either delaying or skipping vaccinations, according to a study published by the medical journal Pediatrics in May last year. Parents subscribing to the anti-vaccination movement ignore the Center for Disease Control (CDC)’s calls for vaccination, thanks in part to a now-debunked study linking vaccines to autism.

  1. I heard about the Black Death being “back” way the hell back in 1977. I remember that distinctly, as I have always been a student of history.

    • Hello SAQ. Yes there are periods where a disease may surge or “recover” from near eradication. The whole point of these articles though is that we have the tools to combate and minimize many serious diseases yet the most vulnerable to these same diseases are being denied them due to false beliefs and lies. We need to seriously push back on these anti vaccine myths. Look the simple decrease in the childhood sufferers from these diseases shows that vaccines work. I feel we need to stomp out the hysteria caused by a debunked study and fear preached in the name of a deity. A Fox news guest says he doesn’t wash his hands because germs do not exist because he can not see them. Another fox guest says we don’t need medical healthcare because god will take those who die to heaven. He has everlasting life , after his body dies. He claimed that even healthcare providers die, so no one should get
treatment for medical needs. The truth was it was a segment on how to deny health care to poorer people. These are tactics to harm the lower incomes. The wealthy get their kids vaccinated. Hugs
