Idaho Republicans Kill Bill That Would Have Ended Child Marriage In The State

Filed under: Children, Family, Fascism, Gender, Harm, News, Political, Questions, Religion, Sex — Scottie @ 11:37

Just what the fuck!!!  They would rather a girl get married at 14, be pregnant at 15, be forced to carry the child to term, give birth and spend the rest of her life being a mother which she started doing when she was still a child.   Think of this, they want the right to have a girl have sex and give birth while a child herself.  She can not vote, drink, smoke, sign a contract, or even legally view pornogphy, yet she can see all the penis and do all the sex her husband wants her to.   This is sick and has had religion behind it.   Hugs

Oh and while they do not want the government involved in marriage they also insist on the government having laws against same sex marriage.  WTF!

American Taliban: Led by conservative Christians, Republican lawmakers in Idaho vote down legislation that would have ended child marriage in the state.

Earlier this week, Idaho legislators voted down a bill that would have blocked marriage for children under the age of 16.

If we pass this legislation, it will then become easier in the state of Idaho to obtain an abortion at 15 years old than it will to decide to form a family and create a family for a child that has been conceived.

While Republican Rep. Bryan Zollinger said:

I do not think courts should be involved in marriage at all. I don’t believe there should be a license required to get married. I think two willing people should be able to go and get married.

Today was a sad day in the Idaho House. What I thought was a modest compromise to try to prevent coercion and potential abuse of children, by raising the floor on the marriage age to 16 – let me repeat, 16 – turned out to be too progressive for too many of my republican colleagues. Arguments against: parental rights and a disagreement with aligning marriage laws with the statutory rape laws. I’m at a loss.

Fun fact: According to a national report, Idaho has the highest rate of child marriage in the U.S. And the numbers are appalling. The Idaho Statesman reports:

From 2000 to 2010, 4,080 children in Idaho were married, according to data compiled from 38 states by Unchained at Last, a national advocacy group working to end forced and child marriages in America. The youngest minor wed in Idaho was 13.

Think about that – in the 21st century, a 13-year-old child was married in the state of Idaho. Not Pakistan. Idaho. Can you say “American Taliban”?

Bottom line: Led by conservative Christians, Republican lawmakers in Idaho voted down legislation that would have ended child marriage in the state.

  1. This is unfortunately not a problem of a specific religion or culture. In countries like India, Bangladesh and Brasil this is a very big problem.

    • Hello Banactee. I understand. But this happened in the USA. In a country of the free and the pusher of democracy. This happened in a country that pretends we are the best in the world. A country that pretends we are enlightened and the most moral. Yet we have a segment of the population that wants little girls to get married and be forced to carry a baby to term because they see females as good only for a man to take his sexual pleasure in and then to be an incubator for his child. She better have the child with the sex he wants or she is in trouble. Hugs

  2. “Led by conservative Christians … ” Just one more example of the PERVERTED thinking of some believers (not all). Where in their god’s name do they get these ideas? From the bible? If so, then there are a whole lot of other dictums they should be putting into practice.

    • Hello Nan. Yes from the bible I think. Mary was about 12 to 14 years old scholars think when she was “made with child” by the holy spirit who came unto her. There was Moses telling his people to kill all the men, boy children, women, and keep the little girls who had not known a man for themselves. You know the bible far better than I ever could, so you could tell me more examples. The question I have is why these people think this is moral for today? Would they want that for their daughters? I don’t get it Nan. If I was a parent and someone tried to make my child an object less than a person I would go nuts on them. Boy or girl they are a person with full equal rights. Yet these people are OK with their daughters being treated this way and I do not think they are good parents. As you can tell this whole subject got under my skin quite a bit. Hugs

  4. That news is just disgusting! It reminds me of that child marriage news story I posted a while ago, but the fact that it’s legalized in Idaho let alone any state in America makes me want to vomit. Pardon the biblical reference, but this is some Sodom and Gomorrah stuff right there with this legislation. The fact that heinous laws like this can be passed, but not things such as universal health care, curbing police brutality, or living wages can’t get through to the lawmakers? Unbelievable.

    • Hello Ospreyshire. I agree. There was another story last year of a east coast state rejecting the same raising of the age of marriage laws due to religious people outrage. I posted about it at the time. These religious leaders are really making it seem they support the using of children as sex objects. Scary considering how much influence they have in out government. Hugs

      • Yeah, and that’s just a shame how those bills were struck down. I’m sickened how so many of those legislators and those religious leaders are getting away with these horrible crimes.
