Revealed: Trump-linked US Christian ‘fundamentalists’ pour millions of ‘dark money’ into Europe, boosting the far right

US Christian right ‘fundamentalists’ linked to the Trump administration and Steve Bannon are among a dozen American groups that have poured at least $50 million of ‘dark money’ into Europe over the last decade, openDemocracy can reveal today.

Between them, these groups have backed ‘armies’ of ultra-conservative lawyers and political activists, as well as ‘family values’ campaigns against LGBT rights, sex education and abortion – and a number appear to have increasing links with Europe’s far right.

They are spending money on a scale “not previously imagined”, according to lawmakers and human rights advocates, who have called our findings “shocking”. Reacting to openDemocracy’s findings, a cross-party group of more than 40 MEPs has called on the EU’s transparency tsar Frans Timmermans to look into the influence of “US Christian fundamentalists… with the greatest urgency” ahead of May’s European Parliament elections.

  1. Scottie,
As I am wont to remind all those buy-bull thumpers: Jesus wandered around Galilee for three years, accompanied by twelve men – no women. Now, you can’t tell me that none of them got horny during that 3-year sojourn. Then, at the Last Supper, he told them, “Love ye, one another, even as I have loved you.” So, obviously, they were all gay. Ooooh – I can hear the gnashing of teeth, and screams of protest, when the fine, upstanding sheeples are confronted with reality! LOL!

    • Hello Julesmomcat. Welcome to my Toy Box. I recently heard of a movement that was started in the 1960’s around the story of Christ being arrested in the garden of Gethsemane where according to the bible he was praying privately with a young man wearing only a lion cloth. When the soldiers showed up they tried to grab the young man who ran away naked. I laugh at how outraged the haters get at this.
It is in their own holy book. They don’t realize it doesn’t hurt the message the character of Jesus is said to be giving. It does hurt their view of who they can hate, so they are upset. For these evangelical / fundamental Christians hating is as important to them as loving. You must hate what they hate in order to get to heaven. They empathize hating the right ones more than helping anyone. Thanks for the comment. Hugs

      • A statement I found online, 31 Jan 2017:

Most Christians don’t know this but,

“In the entire first Christian century
Jesus is not mentioned by a single
        Greek or Roman historian, religion
        scholar, philosopher or poet.
His name never occurs in a single
inscription, and it is never found in a
        single piece of private correspondence.
        Zero! Zip references!”

at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

        • Hello Julesmomcat. Yes most Christians are not aware of the history of the religion. They also do not understand the history of their various Bibles and how they came to have the books they do. Most do not know there are Bibles with different books in them. Hugs
