Alabama Abortion Ban Could See Doctors Face More Prison Time Than Rapists
“We’re telling a 12-year-old girl who, through incest and rape is pregnant, we are telling her that she doesn’t have a choice,” Democratic state Senator Rodger Smitherman said.

  1. Prison time for doctors seems to be reserved as a threat to those trying to help their patients, like actual reproductive health care and pain control.

    • Hello MDavis. Yes. I was just at my pain doctors and we were talking about how the state of Florida is making their jobs so difficult and life harder for people in constant pain like me. In fact I was on a medication that worked really well for me with minimal side effects. Soma. Untrained non medical people in the legislature decided that in order to crack down on opioid addiction that pain clinics that prescribed that medication would be held responsible if the PT died, not matter what t=caused the death. But only pain clinic, other doctors could prescribe it with no problems. So I had to give it up as a pain medication. I hate these arrogant idiots running this state. Hugs

      • We’ve run into prescription problems as well. A sympathetic doctor once spent 45 (non-billed!) minutes on the phone with me explaining that he couldn’t prescribe what he thought we really needed because (and he wouldn’t say it directly – hello, 45 minutes – so I’m paraphrasing) the government was threatening to revoke licenses or possibly prosecute doctors who prescribed those medications and he couldn’t risk all of his other patients just because we needed something on the shunned list. So we’re familiar with that crap.

  2. Sheesh, what the hell’s wrong with the South? I’m furious and this is why I always sign petitions to keep abortion legal, stupid crap like this. I’d love for these legislators to explain to me exactly how the pre-teen mother is supposed to care for this other life. How is this theoretical 12 year old supposed to care for a new life: they’ll barely be out of puberty by the time their kid’s entering it!

    • Hello Chatty. Sadly the situation is not theoretical. I was just reading about a 12 year old girl who was raped and became pregnant. She was denied an abortion and forced to give birth. She had to drop out of school and moved to Florida. While seeking food assistance she was required to name the father who had raped a another girl, a 14 year old. He was contacted and she was told as he was the father she would have to share custody of the child with him. A judge revoked that and made a new order saying she had complete custody of the child once he found out the father was in fact a twice convicted child rapist.

There is an 11 year old child pregnant from repeated rapes by a 26 year old man. She is in Ohio. Due to the new heartbeat bill she won’t be able to get an abortion if the law was to go into effect. As the bill doesn’t go into effect for 6 months she should be able to have the abortion.

Sadly in our country we have people who do not want children learning about their bodies and that they have the right to not be used as a sex toy. They seem to want females of any age to be property of males. This must not be allowed.

    • Not important! Much MORE important is saving the life of the unborn blob. No offense meant to the unborn, but before 6 weeks, there’s not much else there. Who cares about the mother? She’s simply a female.

        • Hello Nan. WOW! All pushed and fueled by religious groups it seems. They are not interested in health, in protecting children, in stopping STD’s , nothing matters except their being able to control females bodies. The damage done by this administration and the religious groups he lets make the rules will take decades to fix. Hugs

      • there’s a reason women used to call the unborn cells in their bodies “the germ” in the 19th century. It’s kinda funny when you’re reading letters and primary source articles about it, but much more sobering when you realize why. Comstock Laws and the like; they had no choice, it was a parasite in their system they had to deal with because there were no other options to prevent or get rid of it.
