ICE Director Nominee: I Can Tell Which Migrant Kids Will Grow Up To Be In Gangs By Looking In Their Eyes

ICE Director Nominee: I Can Tell Which Migrant Kids Will Grow Up To Be In Gangs By Looking In Their Eyes

Politico reports:

Mark Morgan, the White House choice to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said during a Fox News interview earlier this year that he can judge the likelihood that an unaccompanied minor will become a gang member by looking into that child’s eyes.

“I’ve been to detention facilities where I’ve walked up to these individuals that are so-called minors, 17 or under,” Morgan said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” in January. “I’ve looked at them and I’ve looked at their eyes, Tucker — and I’ve said that is a soon-to-be MS-13 gang member. It’s unequivocal.”

  1. How judgmental and incredibly disgusting. I wonder how he would feel if some Latinx told his kids/grandkids or anyone who looks like his pigmentation that the kids look like they’ll grow up to be school shooters/mass shooters? That would be using his own logic in his face. No one has any right to think someone is going to grow up to be a criminal.

    • Hello Ospreyshire. Yes! He would lose his mind. To many bigots do not see their bigotry as a problem but if they think it is them or theirs being discriminated against they freak out. It is stunning that this institutionalized bigotry has been wide spread in the country and not noticed by those not the target of it. I do not know how POC have not gone to war over this. The things I have learned over the last few years has shaken me. As a white male I never understood the depth of the problem and how openly it was being practiced. I feel ashamed that I did not see it sooner. One thing I think is good about this is that the problem is now much more widely know so we can fight it. Hugs

      • EXACTLY! Bigotry is irrational and illogical. If they hear a hypothetical situation or deal with similar things, then all of a sudden the world has to stop. Just look at how drug crime is perceived. When Black people were locked up for cocaine and weed, they didn’t say anything, but once Caucasians were hit with the opioid crisis, then they freaked out and didn’t want to go to jail wholesale like what happened in the War on Drugs. I do agree that most people in America don’t even notice these things, but I do thank you for becoming aware of them.

That’s an interesting statement about “not going to war” given the righteous anger that’s felt in those communities. It is an uphill battle that involves layer upon layer of systemic racism as people fight it in different ways. Not that people don’t try which I can’t fault them for it, but there’s the reality that any POC of any race would never get away with the things that the majority could if it was the same thing which is sickening to me. Even I’m still learning some things that I never noticed before and I dealt with racial discrimination when I was a child.
