    • Hello Notes To Ponder. It never ceases to amaze me how many people of lower income vote against their own interest by voting for a party that takes from them to give to the wealthy. I guess bigotry, racism, and hate take priority over being able to afford to live. Hugs

  2. Reagan also taxes unemployment benefits. To be consistent they should be collecting taxes from licensing police vehicles, in fact any government vehicles.

    • Hello MDavis. Yes it seems they go after those who have the least because those people can not fight back. It is like the IRS, who announced the policy of doing more auditing of lower income people rather than for the upper incomes because they do not have fancy tax lawyers. Hugs

        • Hello MDavis. We got nailed this year. Confusion on the instructions, and we filled it out what we thought correctly. We were wrong. But they wouldn’t let us correct it and just resubmit it. Nope. We had to pay a tax person to go over it, tell us that because we filed jointly we had no options and we were screwed. So we paid the amount they said we owed which was a screwing anyway, and then they added a penalty of over $1000. The lawyer told us to file a request to have the penalty waived as we really had not done the mistake on purpose , had no prior tax problems and were were lower income. We got notified last week they want the full penalty amount. Great a disabled guy on SS and a CNA have to pay a huge penalty but wealthy people get to pull crap with no problems. Hugs

          • Tax instructions are mega confusing. When I was last using tax prep software the penalties actually depended on implied intent. So if someone hid something or understated income or overstated deductions and it appeared to be deliberate the penalty would be much less and easier to waive.
Sorry to hear that the IRS has gone downhill. We have run into some really off situations, some of them because of tax rule changes happening faster than tax prep software updates, but the IRS people we’ve dealt with have all (well, mostly) been quite helpful.
