eliminate all out-of-pocket expenses, all deductibles, all cop-payments. Nobody in America will pay more than $200 a year for prescription drugs

  1. We were recently at the doctor’s for a new situation. When he got to questions we might have, the third one was “do you have any partnerships with clinics in Canada or Mexico if we cannot afford treatment here?” He said no, but he didn’t even look surprised.

    • Popular opinion says No to MFA. I very much doubt it’s going to happen without modifications.

      • Hello Nan. We have discussed that the polling results depend on how the questions are framed. Some people still hear getting rid of insurance companies as taking away their better healthcare and leaving them with crap coverage or taking their healthcare / doctor away. The fact is they wont lose their insurance as the insurance will be Medicare for all and it will cover all the things their company plans do, at a greatly reduced cost. So instead of saying you will lose your insurance we need to say you wont need your insurance as you will be getting better healthcare. According to this single payer is at 70 % right now. https://thehill.com/hilltv/what-americas-thinking/412545-70-percent-of-americans-support-medicare-for-all-health-care . This one breaks it down into more detail but still shows it having majority support of 53%. Slim I know , but gaining. https://www.kff.org/slideshow/public-opinion-on-single-payer-national-health-plans-and-expanding-access-to-medicare-coverage/ Hugs

      • Is this like that poll where people hated Obamacare but thought that ACA was a good deal? I don’t believe that people doing a non-biased poll would come out against MFA. (Note – apparently, in Australia, as in other countries, you are welcome to purchase additional insurance but it doesn’t buy your life it just pays for a bit of extra care, like a private room when the public option would give you a multi-person room.)

    • Hello MDavis. I hope the situation works out for you guys. It is incredible that healthcare in this country now has to be farmed out to other countries. We can fix it, if corporate / moderate Democrats stop hugging the insurance companies and the Republican talking points and really do what the people want. At the debates all the healthcare questions were framed from a Republican talking point view frame. Most of the Democrats on stage were for baby steps that would not give everyone quality healthcare but would continue to funnel money to the CEO’s and insurance people. They seem OK with just a few more getting healthcare instead of everyone.
Seriously they all seem to want to protect the profit of the wealthy over the need of the people to get healthcare. We need to hammer the point that insurance makes money by denying people healthcare. They are not there to give it to people. Under the other plans it just costs more and gives people less.
      Hugs

      • Thank you, Scottie. We’re looking at treatment, not prescriptions, so his Medicare covers a big percentage. So far, so good.
