Current conservative US Christians would call a modern-Jesus an infestation and an illegal, and the NRA would market guns to protect yourself from people like Jesus

Church nativity scene puts the holy family in cages, because that’s how America deals with asylum-seekers like Christ

Jesus and his fam were refugees, so it’s only fitting that the folks at Claremont United Methodist Church decided to put its nativity figures in cages behind razorwire.

As Rev Karen Clark Ristine said, Jesus, Mary and Joseph were “the most well-known refugee family in the world. What if this family sought refuge in our country today? Imagine Joseph and Mary separated at the border and Jesus no older than two taken from his mother and placed behind the fences of a Border Patrol detention center.”

A separate nativity inside the church reunites the family. Nearly 70,000 children were imprisoned by the US government for seeking asylum in 2019.

  1. Scottie, Jesus would not look like Max von Sydow or Jeffrey Palmer. He would likely have a swarthy complexion from being out in the sun. He would look like a modern day Palestinian who spent time outdoors.

So, he would be treated with the same politics and doubt he received back then, if he arrived in America. Religious leaders would doubt his authenticity. One thing the real chosen one would certainly NOT look or act like is the current US president. And, dare Jesus question the lack of veracity or decency of the US president, He would be name called and denigrated just like anyone else who dare question Trump.

    • Hello Keith. Yes good point about how Jesus would look. The fact that seems to get over looked is if he existed he would have been an observant Jewish man of his time. Hugs

  2. Kudos to this church leader! At least there are some Christians who recognize the bigotry and racism that dwells in the black heart of tRumpsky!

    • Hello Nan. I am reading of more churches now starting to speak out against tRump and his racism. I have to admit there are a bunch of “modern” churches coming out in support of LGBTQ people. More than simply saying it is OK, they are actively fight for LGBTQ people and pushing back against the evangelicals. Not that I will change my mind on the supernatural based on who thinks it is OK for me just to exist but I wont turn down support when offered. Hugs
