Unskilled labor

  1. Hi Scottie;
    One of the funniest things is when we have a shift meeting at work and the office people come out to handle the machines while the operators are having their meetings. But, even for me, and I have to know how to do every operator job, I’ve no illusions that I can perform those jobs as well as they do.

    I was speaking with the GM of our plant on Friday and he talked about a particular issue that bridged both of our jobs — a job got put in and started late. He talked about having issues with the customer now, and said to me “…but that’s not your problem”. I came right back at him and told him that we were all in this together. I think too often people who wear suits forget that. They forget that if it isn’t for the guys who work with their hands, then their jobs of pushing paper around would be nothing in a hurry. Now, can I replace an operator faster than I can replace a GM? Yep. But, we are all pulling together, doing our part, and we all deserve respect.

    • Hello Randy. Well said. When management and the floor employees work together instead of against each other it makes a much better work environment. Hugs
