Florida Today reports:

Late last Friday, the architect and manager of Florida’s COVID-19 dashboard — praised by White House officials for its accessibility — announced that she had been removed from her post, causing outcry from independent researchers now worried about government censorship.

The site was created by a team of Florida Department of Health data scientists and public health officers headed by Rebekah Jones. Citing “reasons beyond my division’s control,” Jones said her office is no longer managing the dashboard, is no longer involved in publication, fixing errors or answering questions “in any shape or form.”

“As a word of caution, I would not expect the new team to continue the same level of accessibility and transparency that I made central to the process during the first two months. After all, my commitment to both is largely (arguably entirely) the reason I am no longer managing it.”

Miami’s CBS News affiliate reports:

Rebekah Jones said in an email to CBS12 News that her removal was “not voluntary” and that she was removed from her position because she was ordered to censor some data, but refused to “manually change data to drum up support for the plan to reopen.”

  1. Scottie, making political decisions around people’s health is beyond poor stewardship. WE must deal with facts and as we learn more update people to those facts. This is presented as binary choice. Yet, everyone would like to get back to work, but do so in a smart and safe manner. Singapore stayed open, but they told people the truth, told them what they needed to do and, here is the kicker, they did so.

When you have president who is known to be untruthful (five biographers, attorneys who worked with him and 17,000 lies and growing) who missed a chance to actual be presidential in January and forewarn us and who still cannot be trusted today with a straight answer, we have too many trying to say things are OK.

A friend who supports Trump said even she is concerned by Trump’s foolishness in not wearing mask. People follow their leader and when they see him with no mask, they feel they do not need one. This is not a small point. A leader needs to walk the talk. It matters.

I am reminded of the movie “Silence of the Lambs” when Jodie Foster’s character was ogled and dismissed by local law enforcement and her boss let it slide. She told him what he did “matters.” So, fudging data is something I expect this president to do. When his sycophants do it, it is not a surprise. Acting like a leader matters.

Unfortunately, this leader is walking and talking like a drunk person.

      • True. Plus, the talk changes daily, sometimes hourly. It is hard to set policy with such chaos, which is why we don’t have one.

    • Hello Keith. I agree. The thing is not only is tRump showing a disrespect for all we know to be true about the virus, he is actively cultivating a rebellion from lawful orders of state officials. Again trying to set him self, the Great tRump as the laws supreme. Keith I think people better realize this is not left or right but Democracy or authoritarianism. Hugs

      • Agreed. The GOP can no longer try to claim being the party of law and order. What some of these folks need to realize, Trump will not back you up when the crap hits the fan – just ask Brian Kemp, the Georgia governor.

  2. As I’ve been saying … we cannot believe a single word that is said by our government … nothing. We are on the brink of losing our voice altogether, of becoming the much-talked-about authoritarian state, ie., dictatorship. Have you seen the new website launched by Trump’s campaign, called “Truth Over Facts”? Amazing … Orewell’s ‘doublespeak” come to life. Hugs.

    • Hello Jill. I agree with you, very scary times. Even worse is the fact that 40% of the country seems happy with it. I have not been on much since Monday morning. Today was going to be a more online day but so far it has not worked out well for it. I will explain some day soon I promise, many changes here in the miller home. Talk soon. Hugs
