Trump, like all autocratic authoritarians, knows he cannot win an election if everybody gets to vote

I am not sure where this came from, I found it in a comment section.  Someone in the comments claimed it came from but the poster did not acknowledge it.   I thought it good enought o post and if it is from, thank you sir, you wrote a damn good editorial.    Hugs

Trump, like all autocratic authoritarians, knows he cannot win an election if everybody gets to vote.
Republicans know very well that their ideology of hate and fear is in the minority in America. Men like Mitch McConnell do not appeal to the majority, and they know it. They know they cannot win, if everybody gets to vote, if the playing field is level, if they have to run on who they actually are.
They know it in their bones.
They crave power, but the idea of changing, of becoming the sort of person, the sort of leader, who appeals to a broader range of Americans, becoming someone who leads by example from a position of compassion and understanding and wisdom, is utterly repulsive to them. Because giving up their violent warmongering xenophobia, their violent selfish religion, their violent racism, their violent gibbering fear of the other, is unimaginable.
They simply cannot imagine any road to power that does not involve the violence of hate and fear.
The Republican Party who follows Trump is not the Grand Old Party of Yore. These are not the Republicans who elected Abraham Lincoln or Dwight Eisenhower — or even Ronald Reagan. These Republicans do not believe in democracy unless the vote is restricted to only themselves.
Quod erat Demonstrandum.
I mean, at least Lee Atwater eventually admitted to himself that he was a racist and a bigot and that the platforms he built for Reagan and Bush were based on hate and fear. But unlike the “compassionate” conservatives (heh) of Reagan’s Day, those who follow Trump don’t even have that much self-awareness, let alone shame.
They’re not even trying to hide it. Trump is saying it out loud, either you vote for me, and you elect those who support me, and you keep my enemies away from the ballot box, or else.
Or else.
It’s right there. Right out in the open. He’s not even trying to hide it and his cronies aren’t even trying to soften the fascism or explain it away.
You vote for us or else you don’t get to vote.
Republicans in the era of Trump do not believe in democracy.
Republicans do not believe in The Republic.
Every single Republican in office right now, today, this very moment, demonstrates this over and over.
They represent fanatical ideology.
They represent themselves.
They represent greed and power and selfishness.
Not their constituents, not the citizens, not America.
And you don’t have to go far to see explicit examples. I live in Florida District #1. My Congressman is Matt Gaetz, who hired armed bikers to keep his own constituents out of his town hall. Because he didn’t not want to face them. Because he doesn’t think he *has* to face them. Because he doesn’t represent them, the people of his own district. He represents only those who cheer him, and the money and power which keeps him in office.
No different than Donald Trump.
Mitch McConnell engages in open hypocrisy. McConnell would not allow the Senate to consider Obama’s SCOTUS pick during the last year of Obama’s term, but has openly stated that he will do so for Trump — because that’s different. And when pressed on the difference, McConnell smiled and said because the President is a Republican.
They’re not trying to hide it.
All you have to do is watch how Trump treats people of color or female reporters at his daily press conferences. He doesn’t see them as Citizens, as people, as anyone that he represents. All you have to do is look at Trump’s daily Twitter tirades. He attacks Americans with impunity. He attacks Americans and gives a pass to thugs and dictators and America’s enemies.
Trump knows how it looks. He knows you hate him for it. He doesn’t care. He thinks it’s funny. Owning the libs.
Republicans don’t care. They’re not trying to stop him, or change his behavior, they ENCOURAGE it. They think it’s funny. Trolling Americans they hate and fear.
They’re not trying to hide it, or temper it, or rationalize it.
Why? Because they do NOT care if you and I despise them.
They have power and they intend to hold onto it and never suffer the consequences for their betrayal of the Republic.
They have demonstrated that they will do whatever it takes to keep you from the ballot box. Here’s the president himself, OPENLY threatening extortion on the states if they allow you to vote.
What do you do about it?
Your duty, Citizen.
If your vote didn’t matter, then these dirty rotten greedy selfish motherfuckers wouldn’t be working so hard to take it away from you.
If it didn’t matter, then Trump wouldn’t be so damn terrified of you.
And he IS terrified. Yes, he is.
They all are.
If they won’t let you vote by mail, then you show up in person. Whatever it takes. You crawl over broken glass on your hands and knees if need be. Stomp a hole through the middle of them if need be and claim your place at the ballot box.
And you throw these bastards out of office. You take back your town. You take back your state. You take back your country. You take back the future and you resign these fascist sons of bitches to the trash heap of history.
You want a better nation, be better citizens.

  1. Hi, Scottie – I can verify the source, it is, indeed, my Hero Jim. And it’s a classic Stonekettle essay. I’m anticipating tRump’s new Postmaster General is going to be the point man, when it comes to how mail-in ballots will be handled. As in “$5 to deliver that ballot for you.” And I’m sure the Rethuglikkklans will demand a provision that every state MUST abide by: Mail-in ballots can ONLY be delivered by mail, no “drop-off points” or any other collection method may be used. Hell, why not charge $10 or even $100 to deliver the goods? What’s to stop them? The SUPREMES? Puh-leez.

It’s going to require us fighting the greatest battle of our times, and that’s going to be just getting out TO vote! Whatever Hot Mess or massive ruination follows, I predict it will take 10 longer to fix everything Dumpy’s fucked up, since whoever’s in charge will be fighting the Virus while attempting to keep the country out of another Great Depression. (Although, come to think on it, their love of “scorched earth” just might lead them to destroy as much as possible before leaving, while looting unbelievable amounts of cash from the Treasury.)

    • Hello Dennis. Thank you. That is why I respect the viewers here so much, they know things I do not. I tried to look it up on his web site, I like his blog, but I went back a week and did not find it. As I was in a hurry to post I made my findings clear. I never want to be one who either makes things up, or doesn’t give the real author’s credit.

Dennis as for your idea that we are in the fight of our lives, I agree. That is why I struggle so with people who find minor faults with Biden. Not my choose either, but far better than tRump!

Lots of things going on in my life. I hope all is well with you. I have not gotten an email from you recently and yes, I know everyone is busy living, but I worry. I have lost so many friends of the blog and I hate it when it happens. Keep in touch please. Best wishes, I have to go make the evening bread. Hugs

      • Scottie – it was in his FB Stonekettle group, he doesn’t usually cross-post. And you can try to join, but he could be maxed out, and he’s not allowing us members to invite someone in.

        • Hello Dennis. Thank you for the information, I really like to give people credit. As for FB, I do not do it. I like his blog that I occasionally read, the only thing is he really is wordy and his posts are really long. Hugs

  2. I’ve been in a really foul mood all day. I almost got my Stimulus Check, but CA jumped right on it, and garnisheed it. For “Unpaid Back Child Support.” On a case that was closed while I was on SSDI, but when I was placed on regular Soc Sec in April, following my 67th birthday in March, they reopened it. For a “child” who is now 37 yrs old, is married, successful, and a dad himself. And the mother, who the money is meant for has been dead for 25 yrs. Oh, and they didn’t stop charging me 10% interest on the acc’t. per year, even while the acc’t. was “suspended.”

Just a few years back, it was down to under $10,000, but that 10% a year is killing me; it’s over $100,000 now, so I filed for release from the obligation, as it is causing a severe financial hardship, but they only allow 1 or 2% of cases to be dropped that way, so I don’t hold out much hope. Esp when the Courts are closed, because it requires a Hearing to get it dropped. With NO refunds.

    • Hello Dennis. I am so sorry to hear this. I think there is a different justice system for those who have money and those who do not. I wonder what happens to common sense in these things? Really are the ones making the laws are so far removed from the rest of us that they can not see how stupid and harmful the laws they are voting on are?

Dennis I wish I could help. But about the laws I know nothing. I can only hope you will be OK. You have my best wishes.

Some days I dream of what I could do to help people if I had the resources of only a few million dollars, so much more if I had a billion. A million will run out soon, but a billion could go on for centuries. People on our income level have no idea just how much money a billion is. When you realize that it makes it all more real just what selfish bastards those with that money are if they wont agree they should be taxed for the good of everyone. Jeff Bozos made 34 billion dollars during the last two months of shut down and stock market crash. During that time nearly 40 thousand people lost their jobs, their incomes, their worlds. Hugs

      • Scottie – it’s not like I wasn’t expecting it, having seen it on the news, but the reason it’s SO disappointing is that the plans I had for it was to purchase an e-bike, to be my main source of transportation, as my 1997 Ford Explorer is getting up there in yrs, although she’s no ancient dowager with only 137, 868 mi on her, and she still runs fine, which is great, but she ain’t gonna live much longer.

Plus, I would be able to get more exercise, since my Gym is closed, and won’t reopen for 2 more mos at least, and I just don’t have the “wind,” or the physical ability to ride a bike where I live. There are simply too many hills, and the town (small city, I should say,) is spread out far & wide, in the good old, typical sprawling fashion.

The ones I had my eyes on were in the just-under $2K range, because the great State of CA may have robbed me with one hand, but they gave me a bit of a bonus back with the other – TWO supplemental deposits of $180 each, into my SNAP account, which gave me a small bonus of $360. SO. Big change of plans: I’m doing a small, private, crowd-funding, and borrowing like $100 each from my son, and a couple of siblings, and even a coupla friends have pledged $100 each, with the idea being I’ll buy the bike with my credit card, and use those extra $100 loans to pay it down quickly, and then paying back my friends and family.

One more thing that really rankles me is that the “Date of This Action,” meaning the garnishee, was APRIL 29th, almost a month ago. Why? Because I only get 60 days to reply, and then request a Hearing, before they consider it “agreed to” by me, instead of continuing to contest it.

        • Hello Dennis, I wish you the best. The state was sneaky in not giving a lot of time to contest the action. Seems for the poor the hurtles and struggles just keep piling up. Hugs

          • Scottie – any such garnishments between Official Gov’t. Agencies, like this one, ARE EXEMPT FROM RECALL, REIMBURSEMENT, OR ANY KIND, OR TYPE, OF REFUND. But the close-knit “crowdfunding” I’m attempting is going smoothly, and soo, I may be the proud owner of one of these:

The plan is for me to borrow around $400, or a bit more if I’m lucky, from friends and coupla siblings, and then purchase the bike using my credit card, and then using the borrowed money to pay off the credit card, (at 23.99%), and then repaying my “investors” $100 a month. At Fed Rates, no less.

(I also practice “Jailhouse Law” on the side, along with “Creative Financing.”) I have been more determined and dedicated towards getting an E bike than anything else I’ve wanted for a long time, and I know the Buddha instructs us that strong desires are very often not so good, but in this instance, it’s going to go a long way to improving my health, while lowering my carbon footprint, and keeping my old hoopty off the roads, so that it will last a bit longer.

Peace out, my friend. I am well on my way towards manifesting having one in my life, so now all I have to do is be humble and grateful when it does happen.

    • Hello Paul. I agree. I found it in a comment section on a blog, and Dennis confirmed where it was from. The author has really good in depth posts if you are interested.

I can not understand the raise of racism, bigotry, and the Nazi philosophy that is happening today all around the world. Not just in my country, but all around the world. We know Steve Bannon has been going around Europe fomenting the alt-right hate and bigotry using the money from the billionaire Mercer This really is a well funded campaign and with the US government out of the protecting human rights thing, I am not sure how this all will end. Why the resurgence of hate? Why the resurgence of white supremacy over native people or POC? How did the world not only slide back to the 1930s but to forget all the lessons we learned over the years. Hugs.
