Reporters Gassed, Hit With Rubber Bullets, Arrested

Police are targeting the reporters as a warn to them not to report police bad conduct.   The White House people keep saying this was a bad apple, yet the actions of the forces acting during the protests shows it is systemic in all the law enforcement groups.   Hugs

The Hollywood Reporter reports:

MSNBC’s Ali Velshi, CNN commentator Keith Boykin were among journalists recounting being hit by rubber bullets, attacked, and in some cases arrested while covering protests.

As tensions escalated across the United States during protests over the death of George Floyd, many journalists found themselves in the crosshairs of covering an unprecedented moment with some getting hit by rubber and pepper bullets.

MSNBC host Ali Velshi, who has been reporting live from Minneapolis, tweeted Saturday that he had been hit by rubber bullets “but I am fine,” he posted. “State police supported by National Guard fired unprovoked into an entirely peaceful rally.”

There are about a dozen really good tweets from reporters who were shot, some with video, all while displaying their press credentials.   One reporter who was arrest, Keith Boykin, describes how the police  held him for 6 hours, the first two in hot uncomfortable conditions.   He never was read his rights, and instead of a serious charge gave him a summons for blocking traffic, something he not only claims he did not do but couldn’t because the street was already blocked by police.  It is important to address police power now, before it is too late.   Remember the police are not the military, the police do not have a normally dangerous job, and they have forgotten what policing was really for.    Hugs

  1. I love what Beau says about the cops these days, that they bought into the propaganda of the warrior cop and that they must do what they can to get home at the end of the day. Plenty of other jobs are far more dangerous. It’s partly what you bring into it in this case. A cop with a paranoid mindset who sees danger everywhere is gonna end up creating danger where there is none, but they’ll come out on top. Wonder what would happen if half the cop dramas got knocked off the air–that might help a little.

    • Hello TheChattyIntrovert. Good point, I agree. Plus all these super soldier movies, the Arnold Schwarzenegger commando movies thing that they buy into. They are told they are that image, when they clearly are not. They are the ultimate in macho, and no one should ever doubt it. It is the weird culture that used to be taught to boys that real men don’t cry. That sick twisted idea of what a man is. Hugs
