Trump Again Claims COVID Will “Just Disappear”

The Independent reports:

Donald Trump has repeated a claim that the coronavirus is going to “just disappear”, a day after the United States announced a record number of new cases.

“I think we’re gonna be very good with the coronavirus. I think that at some point that’s going to, sort of, just disappear — I hope,” Mr Trump told Fox Business on Wednesday.

The president’s comments come as more than 48,000 coronavirus cases were announced across the country on Tuesday, the highest daily number since the pandemic began.

    • Hello Nan. Yet his cult approves of him, they believe this / him. What bothers me is SPTV and the Republicans in congress / governors back him up and spout this crap to please him. They are willing to kill their own constituents, overwhelm their state healthcare systems, run what economic health we could have had just to please a moron madman with delusions of grandeur. Hugs

  2. Scottie, you may recall during Trump’s heightened naysaying phase of COVID-19 when it was a hoax, he said when the cases it hit 15, they would be down to 0 by the end of the week. This is when a Maryland Baptist Aged Home decided he needed to act, since he knew the president’s words were meaningless. He was on NPR last week, since they have not had any cases at his facility.

What we have struggled a lot with does the president lie almost all of the time or is it more than that? Various stories have made him appear delusional. I have said maybe he lies so much, he truly does not know where the lies stop and the truth begins. There are many examples, but one of the best examples is when he said in front of the Pakistan PM that the India PM had asked him to broker a peace deal with Pakistan and India over Kashmir. Within the hour, India put out a press release and said “no such request has been made.”

    • IMO, Keith, he says whatever is convenient and/or self-aggrandizing at that particular moment in time — no matter what the topic. And I think he’s done this for so long that he no longer even knows the difference between the truth and a lie. Seriously.

      • Nan, so true. A staff member said Trump sees his incumbency as winning the daily perception battles. This is why he distracts so much, partly to change the subject, partly because he says what pops into his head with no filter. I made the comment to my wife watching news about China. China plays a long game, while we play a short one, made even shorter and more transactional by the one Trump plays. He has actually aided and abetted the predicted China ascendency with his retrenching from the world stage, with his defamation of allies and departure from trade and global agreements. If Putin and Xi wanted to design the ideal president to diminish the west, the person would be like Trump. Keith

    • Hello Keith. tRump has been a salesman of himself as his brand and he feels no need to stay in reality when selling something. He sold himself for president based on him being a successful businessman better than all others and his base bought it even though it was all lies. He wanted the economy up so he sells it as great, he wanted things back to normal so he sells it as true it is happening, even though again it is lies and delusions. Hugs

      • Scottie, true. The Trump sales schtick is simple – what came before me is a disaster. What I do is beautiful as I know more than anyone. His greatest business success is leasing his name for use on resorts he did not build. His contract says he can walk away, so in essence he gets revenue and the lessee gets the liability when the crap hits the fan. That is as good a metaphor for his presidency as exists. Keith

        • Hello Keith. I was just reading that the WH wants people to get desensitized to the deaths from Covid, and to make it seem normal with nothing anyone can do about it. Their just live with it slogan. They want to convince people that everything is normal again and tRump has recovered the economy. Hugs

          • Scottie, here is the opening paragraph of a CNN piece on “As Trump gaslights America on coronavirus, Republicans face critical choice.”

“The gulf between reality and President Donald Trump’s delusional vision of a waning coronavirus threat was on full display this weekend, as cases soared in key hotspots while he delivered speeches at Mount Rushmore and at the White House, with little physical distancing and few masks, directly contradicting the advice from his public health experts.”
