The Many Things In My Toy Box ….my view may change due to verifiable evidence

Be careful my friends, the anti-science and anti-Democrat people seem to have no morals about lying and making things up.   They flat out lie about stuff attempting to prove their point.  I don’t understand what that gets them, except the message they are pushing is far more important to them than the facts.    Hugs

Fake CDC document goes viral as anti-mask and QAnon conspiracists seek to sabotage efforts to halt COVID-19

Coronavirus skeptics are pushing a forged document across social media to undermine public support for masks.

The forgery falsely claims the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not recommend the usage of N95 respirator masks to protect against the coronavirus, and has been shared across Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and specialized discussion forums, reported The Daily Beast.

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not recommend that the general public wear N95 respirator mask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including coronavirus (COVID-19),” the forgery falsely claims, under a photoshopped CDC letterhead.

The forgery is especially popular with social media accounts that promote QAnon and other conspiracy theories, but the CDC confirmed the document was fake and went against the agency’s recommendations.

“CDC typically does not issue guidance or recommendations to the public in such a format,” an agency spokesperson told The Daily Beast. “CDC’s guidance and recommendations are distributed on the agency’s website, officials social media accounts, and through news media.”

Some individuals — including children under 2, those who have trouble breathing and anyone who is unable to remove the mask themselves — should not wear masks, the CDC spokesperson said, but the majority of people are encouraged to do so.

“CDC’s face covering recommendation has not changed,” the spokesperson said.

This latest misinformation campaign could undermine public trust in a vaccine, whenever one becomes widely available.

“People including Fox News hosts like Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham, who have audiences of millions of people, are really priming their audiences to disbelieve anything public health officials say,” said Matt Gertz, of the watchdog Media Matters for America.

Gertz has been monitoring anti-mask campaigns spreading through right-wing circles, and he said social media misinformation poses a grave health risk.

“Given the need for widespread use of a vaccine in order to get herd immunity,” he said, “that’s setting us up for perhaps a very dangerous and painful future situation.”

I did something I do not like to do, but the message is too important  for people to miss if they don’t go to the article to check out the information.   There is a shadow organization driving the idea that masks do not help and even hurt people.  All which has been proven wrong.   But still the push on social media is that and I can only think it is an attempt to make more people sick and more health systems overwhelmed.  OK for anyone not a normal viewer here masks help a lot to contain the spread of Covid, and masks do not harm you as myself who have worn them all day, surgeons who have worn them all day , and my husband who use to work in ICU’s caring for covid patients who wore them for a 12 hour shift  have had no ill effects from wearing a mask can attest.    Hugs

I’m not sure this is a false claim. The CDC may have recommended N95 masks at the beginning of the pandemic, but once the virus spread and there was a shortage of these masks, I can see where they would have pulled back on their recommendation since the ones that really needed them were the healthcare workers. This is not to say that they don’t strongly recommend face coverings — just not necessarily N95.

Maybe I’m missing something … ? Maybe they never actually changed their recommendation?

Hello Nan. Yes my understanding is what you said, that there was a worry about hospitals and medical staff not having the masks. I read the recommendation of the CDC which was garbage but I did find this.

The cloth face coverings recommended by CDC are not surgical masks or N95 respirators. Surgical masks and N95s are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for health care workers and other medical first responders, as recommended by CDC. 3 days ago

Remember the card that was being printed up by these people that claimed that they had a medical condition and even to ask them what it was is a violation of HIPPA laws and carries a $10,000 fine. It had the wrong seal and all that garbage. It was simply a crank get out wearing a mask because I am special card. I think this is more of the same. Hugs
