How did Americans become such Wimps? Silence as Trump kills tens of Thousands, Destroys Social Security and Post Office, Plots Election Fraud

An interesting article.   I found the premise quite plausible.   Hugs

By feeding us decades of propaganda against unions and “socialism,” the American rich have broken the legs of the people, and left them to twitch helplessly as more and more indignities are heaped on them. They’ve divided us by race (Trump is not alone in this tactic, only the least subtle), they’ve convinced us to give the super-rich power because they will make us rich too. (How is that working out for you?).

There is now no mainstream political party in Western Europe that is anywhere near as far right as the GOP. The closest analogues to today’s Republican Party in Europe are the far right white supremacist parties, like Marie LePen’s National Front in France or the AfD in Germany.

It appears that a plutocracy produces fascism, since appeals to racialist superiority and playing on fears of a brown and black Other are the only things that can convince people to give up their basic human rights (like a comfortable life in retirement, which they have paid for, or the right to cast a mail in ballot during a pandemic).

These quotes are from the end of the article.   There is a lot more information at the link above.   I recommend reading it.   Hugs

  1. THIS is the lie … [G]ive the super-rich power because they will make us rich too.

And THIS is the question … How is that working out for you?

But those that believe in the lie will never answer the question.

    1. Hello Nan. I think most people in a certain upper middle class use to feel like they were temporarily inconvenienced millionaires rather than poor people who wouldn’t ever be wealthy. That is what the lotteries are, they sell the idea that you also can be wealthy and not worry about money or the daily struggle. The American dream of working your way up the economic ladder and getting to a secure point in life with a home / luxury toys to then retire to a life of pleasure and ease was already a myth of the past when I was a young person in my 20’s. It has totally been destroyed now. Growing up every home had boats, campers, motorcycles, other toys and things. In my life time I have seen that lifestyle become impossible for most people. Middle class has shrunk to be the working poor. There is a low income housing project down the road. I say low income because the signs say affordable housing starting in the low $200,000. Really? That is affordable? Not for me and the people I know. Mortgages on that would be well over what most people make a month in the area. I don’t know who they are selling them to. In order to buy them you have to have high wage jobs like the medical professions or heavy equipment operators. Check out clerks / grocery workers / waiters / regular workers making maybe $10 or $12 dollars sure are not. Ron made over $18 dollars an hour when he was working ( boy does that pay cut hurt ) and we couldn’t afford one of those homes. Even $15 dollars an hour as minimum wage is hardly enough to live on these days. Some thing has to change. Hugs
