Alleged Kenosha Killer Loved Cops, Guns, Trump, and ‘Triggering the Libs,’ Former Classmates Say

Kyle Rittenhouse loved cops, guns, President Trump, and “triggering the libs,” according to some of his former classmates at Lakes Community High School in Lake County, Illinois. His clothes were often branded with pro-police slogans, and he carried a Blue Lives Matter phone case, one student said.

Some of his classmates joked that he’d be a mass shooter one day. “I personally believe he went to Wisconsin with the intent to kill,” said one former classmate, who asked not to be identified out of fear for their safety.

While Rittenhouse was only enrolled at Lakes Community High School for the 2017 to 2018 academic year, he left an impression. Students reached by VICE News described him as short-tempered and easily offended.

“When he got mad or offended he would always say he could ‘fuck me up,’ but everyone would just laugh because he was like a 5-foot-4 chubby freshman boy who we thought wasn’t capable of harm,” said Joe, who’s a minor and asked that his full name not be used.

Rittenhouse was also known as a “ride or die” Trump supporter. “If you said anything bad about Trump, he’d threaten you,” Joe said. In January, Rittenhouse even traveled to Iowa, where he had front row seats at a Trump rally, Buzzfeed reported. “Kyle was the type of kid to wear a MAGA hat or other apparel just for attention, or to “trigger” people,” Joe added.

Another one of Rittenhouse’s classmates said he used to refer to the school, located in a Chicago suburb, as “libtard af.”

“Kyle was kind of shy from what I remember, but he was definitely in your face and pushed his views hella,” they said. “Like one of those kids that liked ‘triggering libtards.’”

“He went to middle school with my little sister and she said that everyone always thought of him to be a possible future shooter,” said Joe, “and so did I when I met him in high school.”

Rittenhouse made no secret that he’d traveled to Kenosha on Tuesday. He posted on Snapchat about Blake, the father of six, whose lawyers say he was shot by police while trying to break up a domestic dispute. Rittenhouse posted Blake’s mugshot from a prior arrest with the caption “lol, he’s innocent.”

Social media linked to Rittenhouse also showed his affinity for Blue Lives Matter and the Back the Blue movements, which in recent months has inspired the presence of pro-cop vigilante groups at civil rights protests.

On Tuesday night, Rittenhouse joined up with a crew of pro-cop vigilantes and militiamen who had been standing guard by a gas station. He was shown on video palling around with police officers, who thanked him for being there and gave him a bottle of water — even though it was after the 8 p.m. curfew.

Hours later, after a confrontation between protesters and militia men, Rittenhouse opened fire, according to bystander video from the scene.

First he allegedly killed a protester, by shooting him in the head. Then he tried to run away, while talking on the phone: “I’ve just killed someone,” he said in video captured on a cell phone.

A crowd of protesters then chased Rittenhouse down a street, a scene captured from multiple angles on cell phones. He tripped, fell, and just as two protesters came toward him, he sat up, aimed, and opened fire. He appeared to shoot one person in the chest, killing them, and injured a second with a bullet to the arm.

Then Rittenhouse stood up and walked away in the direction of the armored police vehicles which were approaching the scene in response to reports of gunfire. Video shows him with his hands up, rifle clearly displayed, in apparent surrender. Police drove right past him. (Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth later tried to defend police’s inaction: “In situations that are high-stress, you have such incredible tunnel vision,” he said.)

There is more at the link above.  But if I am reading the dates correctly he basically dropped out of school about age 15, was not well like by most kids, he was a radicalized fascist who was also a racist and a bigot.  He seems to have gyrated towards authority figures and those in power.   He probably fantasized that power made you like, respected, and gave a person over the top authority.   I have often felt that people such as this kid and adults who support trump do so because they wish they could say and do the outrageous things tRump does and get away with it.   They like how tRump bullies and mistreats reporters and others because they want the power to do that to other people, to just shout them down and call them names.   They have learned the wrong lessons from tRump and we will have to deal with them for generations to come.    Hugs

Scottie, with a president who is purposefully dividing the country to win, who parrots conspiracy theories from poor information sources, these wind-up dolls are easy to point and send to do mayhem. As we sit, there is a NC person in prison who went to the pizza parlor in Washington to break up a Hillary Clinton sponsored child pornography ring. This is why embracing QAnon is so dangerous and why the president does it. Keith

Quote from the pizza place owner: “I hope that those involved in fanning these flames will take a moment to contemplate what happened here today, and stop promoting these falsehoods right away.”

      Don’t hold your breath, buddy.

Nan, let us not forget the package bomber, either. Trump will not accept accountability or responsibility for anything that is bad. He will only sweep in things that are good under his tent, regardless of any role he played in the outcome. Keith

PS – I won’t hold my breath for the change that is needed. But, after seeing Michael Moore’s caution, Dems cannot screw around and must vote. And, Biden better get his butt up to Michigan.

Hello Keith. I understand, but how do you account for the cult party of tRump electing Qanon believers to congress? These people are winning their primaries. Is this the future of that party?

Scottie, a decent and honest person would condemn folks trying to divide. A decent and honest person would condemn folks peddling untruthful BS as can be found on QAnon and Infowars. What we have is a person in a leadership position, who quoting our learned British friend Roger, is “peddling snake oil.” Donald Trump did not create the division in America, but as General James Mattis said he is not even trying to unite us. It is actually worse than that – Trump is pitting Americans against each other like he does his direct reports. That is not what a leader does. This is what a narcissistic, sociopath does. Keith

and with what I just read about the Dump clan, Donny boy won’t even see this as this kid imitating him. Or if he does, he’ll think “good for him doing what he wants” and not even acknowledge the deaths. Dump is the most blind being on the planet, and deaf too.

This kid provoked ’em and then turned to shoot ’em in self-defense. If he didn’t have his gun on him, he never would’ve gone. Freaking cowardly little turd. But how often have we seen that the past few decades: it’s the gun that makes the “man”, right?

Hello Chatty Introvert. It is worse than you wrote. The kid was in an argument with protesters, baiting them and calling them names. The were doing the same to him at which he lost his temper and shot one of them in the head. That is why he was running and why they were chasing him. That is the second video we see where he stumbles and turns shooting two more protesters. The two guys shot were trying to disarm him.

Too many insecure people feel that a gun makes them tough, super, special. It doesn’t as this kid learned, but that is the message advertisers and militias spread. tRump is pushing the idea that this kid is a hero defending other peoples property from evil destroyers. Now we have candidates for congress praising him. Hugs

Damn. I’ve been so busy trying to get other stuff done I’ve missed a bunch of that. Ugh. Somehow it didn’t register he said he’d shot someone BEFORE the chase. WTF?! Despicable.

Hello Chatty Introvert. Did you see my reply to Nan how the Christian crowd funding site has raised $100,000 for the kid last I checked? The right is making a hero out of the kid with SPTV defending him and praising his “going to defend property because the police wouldn’t”. tRump tweeted “Rest in peace Jay” for the patriot prayer, a far-right group based in the Portland, Oregon area, who was with far right groups attacking protesters and died after getting shot. But no tweets for the two protesters shot and killed in Kenosha. And after 40 days finally tRump acknowledged the killing of Jacob Blake with an off hand comment. Shows clearly where the Republicans, the Christian right, and tRump are and how they feel about harming people who disagree with them. Kill, hurt, and maim them, while praising and supporting the ones doing it. Hugs

    I agree with your analysis.

As for the cops driving past him, I have a question — is open-carry of rifles legal in Wisconsin? If so, that in itself would not have alerted the cops. Secondly, the fact he was walking with his hands in the air doesn’t indicate anything more than … “hey, I’m not here to cause trouble. I submit to your authority.” It’s done all the time at protests.

It’s easy to look back (hindsight) and see things from a different angle.

Hello Nan. The open carry is legal for people 21 and older. They had seen this boy earlier and talked with him, and he was clearly not old enough to be walking around with a gun. Plus there are people telling the police he was the shooter. They simply ignored that. So I don’t see this as Monday morning quarterbacking. I do wish we had better video of the incident that started all of it. Hugs

I’m NOT defending this guy. I’m just saying the report of what happened does NOT lend itself to the comments related to the police ignoring him as he walked away from the scene. Further, if these were cops that he’d talked to on other occasions, they probably would never have considered him to be the shooter.

It’s important to remember that we’re seeing/reading about what happened after the fact — when we know he was the shooter.

Hello Nan. I do understand. The police chief explained it by saying the officers had “narrowed vision in these circumstances” which means they already had it in their minds as to who were the good guys and who were the bad guys already. As they had talked to this kid, knew he was with the militia guys, and they had clearly decided to not bother with the kid as he was fascinated with them and their armored vehicles, and he was white, they did not classify him as a target or threat. They were acting as biased humans. I have done it before. I once reported the president of the company I was working for because he blew by the security station I was posted at. I called in his plate for a police check. Boy was that a bad day for me. My bias was not realizing the company had a policy that did not apply to some people. I was young and idealistic. That is the issue with the situation, the police have a well understood policy on what rules apply to what people.

You are correct we already know the facts that he was the shooter, and we think that is bad because we are caring humans who think people who disagree with us shouldn’t be shot and killed. Sadly the president and the Republicans in / running for congress disagree. They and the evangelical Christians are making a hero out of this kid. As of the last time I checked a Christian crowd funding page ( because the secular ones kept taking down the pages as it is illegal to raise money for an illegal act ) raised $97,000 for this kid. Nearly $100,000 thousand dollars for a kid that shot people protesting the killing and racism in the US, and I am sure it is more now. Think on what that says, the religious right along with the government are not only OK with the killing of POC but they are big into supporting a kid who shot those trying to change the system. WOW! This is the best explanation of the country today under tRump. Hugs

          • Nan August 30, 2020 / 14:02

What is more tragic than anything else is what you wrote: they are making a hero out of this kid. He KILLED people! He TOOK THE LIVES of innocent people! And they think that’s OK?????!?!?!

Hello Nan. I posted how hundreds of tRump supporters drove through the protests and attacked the protesters. One of these people got shot and died, we don’t know how yet. He was a patriot prayer, a right wing radical group. They like to fight and hurt those who disagree with the far right. Well tRump tweeted his support for that man. “Rest in peace Jay” he tweeted. Yet no tweets or words of sympathy for the protesters shot in Kenosha, and after months has finally said something non-committal about the killing of Jacob Blake. So it is very clear how tRump feels, how the religious communities feel, and how the right feels about killing to maintain their bigotry and privileges. Hugs
