Top intelligence office informs congressional committees it’ll no longer brief in-person on election security

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has informed the House and Senate Select Committees on Intelligence that it’ll no longer be briefing in-person on election security issues, according to letters obtained by CNN. Instead, ODNI will primarily provide written updates to the congressional panels, a senior administration official said.

The official added that other agencies supporting election security, including the Department of Justice, Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security, intend to continue briefing Congress.
Still, the abrupt announcement is a change that runs counter to the pledge of transparency and regular briefings on election threats by the intelligence community.
It also comes after the top intelligence official on election security issued a statement earlier this month saying China, Russia and Iran are seeking to interfere in the 2020 US election, a warning that prompted some backlash from Democrats on Capitol Hill who have continued to push for the public release of more information about the nature of those efforts.
Specifically, a senior intelligence official discounted the possibility of foreign actors mass producing fake ballots to interfere in the November elections, again breaking with Trump who has continued to insist that mail-in voting poses a significant threat to election security.
“We have no information or intelligence that any nation state threat actor is engaging in activity … to undermine any part of the mail-in vote or ballots,” the official told reporters on Wednesday.
In response to Trump’s accusations about leaks, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff tweeted, “As usual, President Trump is lying and projecting. Trump fired the last DNI for briefing Congress on Russian efforts to help his campaign. Now he’s ending briefings altogether. Trump doesn’t want the American people to know about Russia’s efforts to aid his re-election.”

Congress has the right of oversight. It is desperately needed over this president and his White House, since the truth is not frequently used.

Hello Keith. Not according to tRump & his henchmen. tRump has a weird incorrect view that article 1 in the constitution gives him unlimited powers and he has always felt he was not able to be corrected nor stopped. tRump has always felt he is the one charge making the rules. He sees congress as minor issue and a pain in the ass to be ignored. There is the story that when he first became president him and McConnell got into a telephone shouting match where Moscow Mitch was yelling at trump that he did not work for him. Turned out McConnell was wrong, he ended up working for tRump after all. tRump loves dictators and authoritarian governments and wants that power and authority for himself, mostly I think to have complete access to the public treasury, and reward himself and his friends. Hugs

Scottie, as we have discussed, we may have only seen the tip of the iceberg on this corrupt and deceiful president. Keith

Hello Keith. Yes I agree. So how do we explain all the “Republican” elected officials who enthusiastically support this corrupt and deceitful president? And what can be done next. I am listening to a podcast on Stephen Miller and how he became so radically against immigrants. Turns out as an early teen he listened a lot to Rush Limbaugh and even more far right media. He even turned against one of his friends who he had been close with , because his friend was Hispanic. He as a teen tried to go supper white US. For him they say he wrote and talked as if the rights and privilege of being an American was being white. So he was indoctrinated by right wing media as a preteen to think that being a good American citizen was to be white.

Think of when this was happening. Stephen miller is 35 years today so this was only in the 1990’s this was happening. It is scary how the right wing media took off in the 1980’s and then shaped a whole generation of bigots in the 1990’s and it got worse going forward. Pretty telling how fragile the US democracy and civil rights are. It worries me greatly. Hugs

Trump NEEDS the adulation and power that comes with being a dictator. He doesn’t care that it’s forced because, as his more honest relatives have said, he is nothing but a weak, insecure, sniveling bully that cannot survive without constant praise and flattery … even when it’s self-generated.

Hello Nan. Well said. It is true. I was thinking of the Incel movement and how they want to be able to force females to have sex with them and also think after being forced to do so as a property the females would enjoy it. ( rather the way the bible describes it ) Mind boggling how they view the whole idea of sex and enjoyment. But that is the same way trump feels when he forces his staff to praise him. How many times have we been faced with videos of tRump administration officials figuratively prostrating themselves praising his greatness, before the meeting can begin? How is this normal or acceptable? How do these people keep their self respect and ideas of their future doing this, unless they think tRump is the future, the new realm / Reich. Every news interview on TV now there is no tRump administration official that will say anything against or critical about tRump, they will twist themselves into knots to keep from doing it, today I seen two just stop and repeat the same dead line to the question no matter how many times asked.
Because to criticize the dear leader is the worst sin, and unforgivable sin. We really are in a dark place right now. Hugs
