DeJoy Tells Judge Mail-Sorting Machines Can’t Be Reassembled

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy told a judge the U.S. Postal Service can’t reassemble the hundreds of high speed mail-sorting machines that were taken apart this year, a project that more than a dozen states allege was intended to undermine the upcoming election.

nationwide injunction issued last week in Yakima, Washington, should be amended to acknowledge that the machines can’t be put back together, DeJoy and the USPS said in a filing in the case on Wednesday. The machines, dismantled under a DeJoy initiative, were stripped for parts to improve or repair other machines, they said.

“It is therefore not possible to return such machines to service,” the USPS and DeJoy, a major Republican donor, said in the filing.

In his Sept. 17 ruling, Bastian blasted the USPS changes, saying it was “easy to conclude” that DeJoy’s effort was intended to disrupt and challenge the legitimacy of the Nov. 3 election. The judge noted that 72% of the decommissioned high speed mail-sorting machines were located in counties where Hillary Clinton got the most votes in 2016.

There is more at the link above.   It is clear that they made sure the machines couldn’t be put back in service.   Some postal workers told of perfectly working machines taken apart, deliberate destruction of parts, and dumpsters fill with the parts to be taken to landfills.    Again the Republicans know they are a minority, know tRump is hated, and are destroying our democracy to stay in power.    Hugs

  • A friend of mine who works for the post office told me that even if they could put them back together, just to try to reassemble them is now a felony. Also, they have to have the trucks out of the facility “on time” which means on the dot, even if the trucks aren’t fully loaded yet, “even if they’re empty,” he said, “even if waiting fifteen minutes to fully load the truck means that we have a fully loaded truck going to Pittsburgh or Philly instead of an empty truck. But we can’t do that anymore.” & everyone knows that fifteen minutes in trucking is nothing … not when you have to go through city streets to the interstate & then wait in traffic to get through the tolls (even with easy-pass, they’re slow).

    It’s a design for disaster & that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

If you’re sending Christmas presents, send them NOW.

    • Hello Polly. Yes and those polices the judge told them they must stop and return to the old polices. I wonder if they will do what the courts have ordered, so far they are fighting the orders from two courts to return to the way things were. Again the tRump administration feels they are above any laws or courts. Hugs

  • And, of course, we should not lose track of the alleged campaign funding fraud that DeJoy has been accused, where he reimbursed employees for campaign donations to his favorites, like Senator Thom Tillis. Sadly, this story is continues to be weird and reinforces the kind of people the president is attracted – get it done, laws be damned kind of people. Keith
