‘You catch it and then you get better:’ Trump claims he would’ve beaten COVID-19 without treatment

President Trump boasted Thursday that he doesn’t need any help beating coronavirus — and you don’t either.

The COVID-stricken president said he is strong enough to win his fight against the deadly virus without treatment, an ill-informed statement considering that 210,000 Americans have succumbed to the pandemic

“I think I would have done it fine without drugs. You don’t really need drugs,” Trump told Fox News.

“You catch it and then you get better. And then you are immune,” Trump added.

Trump praised the experimental anti-body treatment that he was given last Friday, calling the drug a “cure” for COVID-19.

But he suggested that his own strength was primarily responsible for his ability to fight off the virus so far.

“I view it as a cure because I took it,” Trump said. “It’s great, it made me better, I’ll tell you right now.”

Doctors say that personal strength obviously has little to do with a person’s ability to fight off coronavirus, which has infected more than 7 million Americans.

Trump also says he doesn’t think he is contagious with coronavirus, even though doctors say COVID-19 patients can still spread the disease for up to two weeks after being infected.

“I don’t think I’m contagious at all,” said Trump, without offering any evidence to back up his claim.

The shocking statements amount to a return to Trump’s default effort to downplay the impact of the pandemic and to undermine efforts to contain the worst public health crisis the U.S. has faced in a century.

After admitting being infected with COVID-19, Trump initially suggested his own illness might cause him to change his tune, saying “I get it now.”

But since his condition has improved, Trump staged a made-for-TV return to the White House and pointedly ripped off his face mask, which protects those around him from contracting the virus from him.

The president now claims to be almost fully recovered, although he admitted taking a powerful steroid, which can mask symptoms and also cause dramatic mood swings.

  • He says, “I don’t think I’m contagious at all,” — And how would he know? But then, that’s Trump reasoning for you. What he thinks/says/does is always the ultimate in PERFECTION.

And sadly, many will believe him and continue to go maskless and spread (and contract) the virus simply because HE said it’s not all that bad.

    • Hello Nan. Yes very true. The maskless and open up groups will get and be worse now. Not only has the Dear Leader preached to go back to the way we loved to live before, but he is proving it is not a big deal. He said it is like the flu and he is right, right, uhm right? If his cult can not see the difference between them and the advantages he has, if they can not see that 212,000 dead in 6 months makes a lie of his statements, then they are truly lost. Jim Jones and his Kool Aid has begun.

BTW did we not start a 20+ year was with a country because of nearly 3,000 dead which that country had nothing to do with? Compare that with 212,000 in 6 months?

Did you see the FBI arrested a bunch of militia people in Michigan who were plotting to kidnap the governor who is a Democrat and put her on trial and maybe kill her while installing the Republican leaders of the legislature as the true governor and insisting the state be ruled by the bill of rights instead of the constitution? That last one is new to me and I don’t know what that means. But this is the result of tRump saying “Proud boys stand down and stand by, but someone has to take on the left and antifa …” tRump has become a threat to our democracy in more ways than we thought possible. • Damn, and I thought it was because he was the “Chosen One.”

What an idiot. By the way, Scottie, I have a theory about Trump’s initial announcement regarding the next on stage debate with Joe Biden. (We know now that probably won’t happen.) But here’s my theory: COVID infected tRump wants to get as close as he can to Joe Biden and infect him with the virus. tRump, knowing he can’t win, wants to destroy, literally, his opponent. I think he is that insane.

    • Hello Paul. I agree. I have read many opinions that tRump and family tried hard to do that in the first debate. tRump and family showed up too late to get tested for covid, even though that was the rule they agreed to. They refused to wear their masks even though that was the rule they agreed to. tRump kept raising his voice and projecting at Biden. That is why the White House won’t say when the last time tRump tested negative, it would both prove he knew he was positive the first debate and keep him from doing rallies now. He is still contagious even though he claims he is not because he knows more than doctors of course, and he is planning a rally Saturday.

tRump also can not do a virtual debate because he can not control the situation, can not do what he did before, being a pompous bully and jerk. He knows they could cut his mic, he may have planned to walk up to Joe to try to look intimidating. tRump seems to think he is the one who holds the power, the cards in this and the networks and event arrangers need him. That is not true, if he doesn’t show up they can go ahead with just Biden as it is a town hall format. In tRump world people only want to see and hear him, but again it is not true. He will hate it when he is out of office and people are not forced to cover him and listen to him. Hugs

      • Yes, he will hate not being the BMOC … BUT, never underestimate the publicity talents of Trump. If he does lose (Yes! Yes! Yes!) I guarantee you he’ll stay in the public eye, one way or another.

        • Hello Nan. They say that he originally ran only to refresh his brand which was flagging. He also thought he could jump start a new tRump cable TV channel with a presidential run. All tRump at all times. He is so narcissistic he wanted that. When he won his ideas got bigger. He still wants the TV channel and he has tried several times to press several other TV channels to be his “All Trump at All Times Channel”. So yes he will stay in the public eye, and he will keep trying to raise his cult against the Republicans who displease him. That is why I keep saying the Republican party is dead. It is a base camp of the tRump cult and those who will try to pretend they are something above that will be eaten and overthrown. Remember the Republican party was a shrinking minority before tRump, that is why they had to gerrymander and do such strict voter suppression. Really that cult minority will only be worse if the former Republican party tries to go forward as a party without the tRump base. The base will primary every candidate and knock them off the ballot with their own candidate, supported or not by the party. Q supporters will be the only ones able to win a Republican primary. So there is no more Republican party without tRump. That is what I keep trying to tell Keith. The former Republicans need to come up with a new party and a new party name. Hugs
