WH Backs Herd Immunity Statement Signed By Such Notables As Drs. Johnny Bananas And Person Fakeman

The New York Times reports:

The White House has embraced a declaration by a group of scientists arguing that authorities should allow the coronavirus to spread among young healthy people while protecting the elderly and the vulnerable — an approach that would rely on arriving at “herd immunity” through infections rather than a vaccine.

Many experts say “herd immunity” — the point at which a disease stops spreading because nearly everyone in a population has contracted it — is still very far-off. Leading experts have concluded, using different scientific methods, that about 85 to 90 percent of the American population is still susceptible to the coronavirus.

Sky News reports:

Sky News found dozens of fake names on the list of medical signatories, which anyone can add to if they tick a box and enter a name. These included Dr. I.P. Freely, Dr. Person Fakename and Dr. Johnny Bananas, who listed himself as a “Dr of Hard Sums”. One medical professional on the list gives his name as Dr Harold Shipman, a general practitioner in the United Kingdom. A GP called Harold Shipman killed more than 200 of his patients before he was arrested in 1998.

Sky News also found 18 self-declared homeopaths listed on the open letter as medical practitioners, despite the fact that homeopathy has no scientific underpinning or clinical evidence to support its use. In addition, the letter has been signed by well over 100 therapists, including massage therapists, hypnotherapists, psychotherapists and one Mongolian Khöömii Singer who describes himself as a “therapeutic sound practitioner”.

This is a death sentence for a lot of people in the country.  This is the government saying it is better for a lot of people to die, get sick and have huge medical bills than the government doing anything, paying anything, helping in anyway for people to live and be safe.   Basically this is the tRump administration throwing their hands up and saying we don’t have a plan and don’t know what to do while we are afraid of the pain we will face if we do what we know needs be done.

Think on it, the rest of the world knew what to do and they reduced deaths of their people and their economies are still going, they never took the great hits ours did.  Stop thinking the US is the entire world, that is killing us.   This idea of herd immunity is basically saying your life and your suffering means nothing as long as you keep the wealthy making their money from the stock market.   Your life is worth nothing compared to the money the wealthy desire.   That is the entire thing.  tRump doesn’t care if you die, in fact he doesn’t care if you live, to him you are nothing.  If you are not wealthy or you can not help him personally you are only fodder, only to be used until useless then discarded.   Hello People do you not see the point and issue?  tRump wants far more people intimidating poll watchers to prevent people from using their right to vote than he has to preventing the spread of Covid across the country.

tRump and his ilk have drawn the lines, it is them and their profits over your life.   I mentioned before how every governor telling people to return to how things were before Covid also are not the ones at risk.   The ones demanding the opening of schools so the working parents can be free to go back to the jobs that do not exist are not putting their kids in the public schools, not having their families shopping in stores or malls.   They want you to do what they think their families are above doing.    It really pisses me off.   Hugs

  • Scottie – they’re gonna lose, and lose BIGLY and they know it. So, in order to extract whatever revenge they can, they have decided to hand over to Joe an Economy in such shambles that there’s no way to repair it in just 4 years. No, it will likely take a decade to undo all the damage that they’ve wrought economically and environmentally, and the payback for disloyal voters is broad exposure, which is why he’s having these crowded rallies. He’s counting on his followers to contract the Virus and to spread it around, whether knowingly or not, but I’m sure that many of his base will see that as a way to “own” the Libs, which is why he discourages mask-wearing.

    • Hello Dennis. Very true. This has been the scenario for decades. The Republicans when they are in charge raid the treasury to pay back their donors and give tax breaks to their donors. History shows that the economy goes down and the stock market that serves only the wealthy also goes down during a Republican administration. The reverse is true historically, during a Democratic administration the economy and stock market go up. Ron has a family member that refused to listen to him when a Republican won the election and he told them to take their money out, and they lost all of it, all of it. Over $100,000 because they are Republican diehards who believe the hype rather than the facts. But the Republicans keep hammering home the idea that they are the best for the economy just as they do on US security, and none of that is true. But with the right wing media being all these people hear how to stop of defend against it? Hugs

  • Just walked past my early voting area here in Chicago and there was a liner of almost 100 people! This is day one of early voting! NEVER have I seen a line like this at any time in my life when I’ve voted in Chicago and that’s been for almost 40 years now. This is a good sign and NOT one the orange Nazi and his party of GOP cucks are gonna be happy with.

  • That Trump has given up on preventing Covid infections and has decided in favor of herd immunity tells us he has no empathy for humanity. His own son had Covid and thankfully survived, many young people are dying of Covid though they would have us believe otherwise.
The elderly have been tossed aside, I suppose he figures after he wins the elderly vote in Florida they are not necessary anymore, no more SS (that they worked all their lives for, or Medicare) he considers them a burden. A heartless, harsh man who condemns those who choose to do the right thing. I think he will lose the elderly vote in Florida this year. I would love to see Florida turn blue for a change, if there was ever a time it is now.

    • Hello House of Heart. Well said and true. The fact is the upper class is insisting that the lower class go back to doing what we did before Covid because it keeps their upper level income coming in. They don’t care if we get sick or die. The estimate of deaths is about 2 million if the herd immunity approach is used. But the upper class wont be part of those numbers. They wont be pressed in to font line serving jobs, store cashiers, waiters, and other jobs dealing with mass population. Even if they do catch it they have the best healthcare and the ability to pay for it. So yes the upper class wants what is good for them, and they don’t care how the rest of us suffer over it. Hugs

  • The notion of ‘herd immunity’ has several flaws, the most notable perhaps being that … there ain’t no such thing! People have already twice contracted the virus, thus there is no such thing as herd immunity, as the reputable scientists have said all along. Second, even if herd immunity were a real thing in this case … at what cost? To date, we have lost more than one million lives worldwide, and more than 1/5 of those in the U.S. alone (221,843 as of this writing). Are we willing to make human sacrifices of those of us who are at risk for one reason or another? Frankly, if there were justice in this world, one of those nearly 220 thousand would have been the dictator at the helm of the U.S. … a madman who would condemn us all to death if he stood to gain from it. Sigh. Yes, I’m in a bitchy mood at the moment … sorry. Hugs

    • Hello Jill. I love it, well said. They estimate the deaths could be over 2 million if there is no attempt to mitigate the spread. The healthcare system can not handle that and would collapse. Public confidence would crater, and come to a stop. But the fact is the upper class doesn’t care and in fact is demanding the lower class sacrifice themselves to keep the upper class income flowing with the stock market healthy. Even as workers get sick and die. The upper class is not going to be on the front lines dealing with the public and risking catching Covid. Even if they did get sick they have the best healthcare and they can afford the costs of getting treatment that the rest of can not. That is why tRump and people like him have stopped trying to handle this and keep insisting we all act like we were before Covid. Our lives mean nothing to them, if they cared at all they would pass a stimulus bill to help the people who have lost or are losing everything. Hugs

      • Thanks, Scottie! I’m willing to bet that if Trump had his way, if everybody went back to life as it was pre-March … no masks, no ‘social distancing’, all businesses open for business as usual, we could lose one-third of our population over the next two years. Fortunately, some states’ governors and some people have better sense than Trump does and he doesn’t always get his way, despite his little temper tantrums. Nope, the wealthy 1% won’t have to worry, for they are protected and as you say, would have access to the best that the medical community has to offer. But those like you and I would die, and would Trump care? Um … “it is what it is” seems to be his attitude. I despise that ‘man’ and his cronies a little bit more each day. Hopefully, he’s on his way OUT the door! Hugs

  • If tRump had suffered from his escapade with the virus (I mean, really suffered), herd immunity might not be quite so appealing. But since he (apparently) sailed through his infection, his empathy level has not wavered on the scale even a tiny bit.

I know justice is blind, but geez! You’d think in some cases it might peek through long enough to even the playing field.

    • Hello Nan. Justice has been overrun and over turned in a lot of cases by the worst of society. It use to be the best of society drove the direction of the country, not so anymore. I use to call Walmart the store equivalent of the lowest common denominator, now I think the US is becoming the country equivalent of the lowest common denominator. Hugs

      • I wouldn’t go quite to that extreme about the U.S. Overall, it’s still got a lot of good things going for it. But MOST DEFINITELY we need new leadership to get us back on the right track.

And let me add … Biden isn’t perfect. He does talk a good talk and I think he’ll right some wrongs, but it’s going to take several years to get rid of tRump’s swamp creatures and the accompanying slime.

        • Hello Nan. I look at as choosing who I would want as my opposition for the next 4 years, who will come the closest to my positions on issues. I already know tRump is 180 degrees from me on all issues and causes. Bidden is closer to what I believe in and he can be moved closer to what I want. tRump is immovable and worse, Biden is better and moveable. What remains to be seen is how interested Biden’s administration will be in fixing everything tRump broke. How much will a Democratic congress be willing to change things and go after those in tRump’s cabinet who broke the laws? I will say if the Democrats do not move aggressively and quickly they will be voted out in two years. That happened in Obama’s first mid term, people got tired of waiting for congress to address their needs. Hugs
