Voting

Ron and I just got home from trying to vote.   I say trying because when we got there the line to vote was out the door of this large building, to the sidewalk, and down the entire left side of the building and more people were lining up.   Ron says it had to be well over 300 feet.    This is the third day of early voting.   I had never had to wait before at this place.   It is stunning.    Ron wants to try again in the middle of the afternoon, around 3 PM.   I have not had any sleep since about 11 PM last night, but I will try.    Early voting run through the 31st.   So we will keep trying.   It maybe I will have to stand in a long line.    Hugs

Keep trying. I plan to vote on the election day because the voting place is only two blocks from my house & I can be there when it opens at 6 am. I’m not worried about long lines. But I bet there’s more people there at 6 am than there usually is! We’ll find out. Hugs

Hello Polly. We will. Ron was just watching the news to see if the lines had decreased yet. One way or another we will vote if we have to wait outside in a hail storm, but we are hoping the lines will die down after this first rush. Hugs

Hello Nan. Your a meanie. 😀😃😋🥰

One year when I couldn’t walk and I was in a wheelchair we voted by mail. However Florida is notorious for rejecting mail in ballots for any and every reason. So a lot of us are worried our votes wont be counted if we do mail in. Hug

Good luck my friend. We went at 10:30 so no worries. One of the poll workers noted the best time was in the afternoon, so maybe you will be more fortunate. Keith

Hello Keith. We are planning to try again around 2 PM. Maybe. Ron just went to lay down. Told me that if I felt up to going at 2 to wake him. To tell the truth my back is really hurting and I have not slept since 11 PM last night. But we will see. I really want to vote this year. I always want to vote, I am pretty political as you can see, but this year I feel driven to protect and save democracy in the US. How is it playing out up there in NC. Reports I am reading say the state is in play this year. That Graham could lose? Hugs

Take care and be safe. Graham is in a neck and neck in SC with Harrison, a very good candidate. Cunningham is still holding a slight lead over Tillis here in NC. I am finding the articles being written these days are leading from both sides, but especially the Fox, Breitbart, Washington Examiner, ones as if they are trying to convince themselves. We need to keep encouraging the young folks to vote – healthcare, climate change and jobs will be impacted. Keith

Scottie – don’t you use a “walker,” one with a built-in seat? Or a wheelchair? You can rent a wheelchair for a day, if need be, or maybe even borrow one. I understand a preference for voting in person, given where you live, but you should have some slight accomodations available to help you on your quest.

Over the years, I have acquired a wheelchair, a walker, a set of crutches and a cane, as I have needed them all at one time or another. In fact, my wheelchair is my office chair, since I don’t have room for both in my tiny apt. Good luck, and I wish you as pain-free a voting experience as you can possibly have.

Hello Dennis. Yes I have a wheeled walker with a seat and we took it with us. My wheelchair got too old and in bad shape and as I was not using it much anymore we let it go. I also used my wheelchair as my office chair as it was the most comfortable chair for me to sit in. But like I said it fell a part as it was really old. Thank you for your well wishes, it will work out. We are just trying to pick the least busy time. Hugs

Here’s hoping all those voters are there for Biden/Harris! 🙂

Hello Carmen. Wow that would be great. I live in a really red area. It is slowly getting less red, but I would love it if these were Biden voters. I can see that the votes in Florida are going to go into recounts, with the Rethugs trying to stop them and intimidating the counters with the attempt to stop the counts throwing the vote to the courts. I use to live in W.P.B. which is really blue and I miss it. I hope you and your family are well. Hugs

Sorry you have to wait, but it is great news seeing how many people are out there lining up to vote early! Seems like this is happening everywhere.

Hello inspiredbythedivine1. Yes this is a record here. It seems the people in the US finally found a reason to vote. I just heard a report that Biden is up by 4 points in Florida which as red as this state has been for so long that is grand. But I expect the Republican governor and Republican state legislators to try to screw with the election results like Bush did for his brother George. I expect to see a lot of threats and intimidation during the counting. I expect to see a lot of court challenges. That is one reason so many people are voting in person, they don’t trust their mailed ballot will be counted and not rejected. Hugs

Yep. It’s good they are voting in person there. Seems as if Trump’s ranting about mail in voting simply cause folks to go stand in line to vote early. Thing is, with all the seniors in Florida, you’d think Trump would WANT them to vote early so he gets his votes. Friggin’ idiot. The guy is as dumb as he is despicable.

Hello inspiredbythedivine1. From what I am hearing the seniors are now split on tRump. In 2016 they went big for tRump. Now you are seeing a lot of Seniors for Biden stuff. I think over all tRump lost the senior vote. Hugs

He did. Biden’s done great promoting his plan to increase Social Security and tRump, of course, is trying to permanently end the payroll tax thus ending Social Security. Trump is vile and disgusting with everything he touches.

I mailed my “application” for a mail in ballot last Friday, the 16th. I haven’t received it yet. Any idea how long it takes? I mean it’s local so I thought the ballot would be in my box by yesterday. Hmmm, I don’t know, maybe I’ll do the early voting after all.

Hello Paul. With the way they are messing with the mail I would not wait for it, but instead do early vote. You could google mail slowdown in your area to see if others are having trouble. All over the country I am reading of mail being really delayed. Here in South Florida we have seen a slow down in our mail, one letter Ron mailed took 12 days instead of the two days it use to take. Hugs

Thanks Scottie for the good advice. It turns out I received the ballot the next day and I’ve sent it in. I know I’m in a deep red state, but hey, Alabama’s 2018 Blue Wave, put Doug Jones in the senate, and it looks as if he’s there to stay. Thanks for your support!
