Boebert responds to criticism of her gun storage in Zoom background

Freshman Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) responded to criticism of her gun storage in her Zoom background during a House Natural Resources Committee meeting.

During the committee’s organizing meeting held over Zoom, the Republican appeared to have several guns including rifles and a handgun propped up behind her on a bookshelf.

Her background was immediately spotted with journalists, lawmakers and Twitter users pointing it out on the platform.

“I always thought my dirty dishes piled up and accumulating bacteria were the most dangerous thing in a Zoom background…#SafeStorage,” Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) said in response to Boebert’s background.

As the Robinhood hearing starts, the real action — apparently — is at the Natural Resources organizing meeting, where Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) is roasting Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) for the gun shrine she’s constructed as a Zoom background.

Jared Huffman on Lauren Boebert: “If somebody wants to have a shrine to their gun fetish as a Zoom backdrop in their private life, they can do that. But this is our hearing room and at some point we will get past the Covid epidemic and we’ll all start showing up in person…”

“…and our safety and our ability to conduct business civilly, without feeling threatened, is a relevant consideration.”

There’s a real 👐jazz hands👐 element to the gun display.

“Who says this is storage? These are ready for use,” Boebert later posted on Twitter on Thursday in response to the reaction.

Boebert has faced backlash in the past regarding her stance on firearms after she released an ad last month stating “I will carry my firearm in D.C. and in Congress.”

Boebert has recently been approved for a concealed carry permit in Washington, D.C., and is not the only Republican representative who is carrying in the House.

Guns have become a controversial topic in the House following the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Last month, GOP Rep. Andy Harris (Md.) set off the metal detectors in Congress with a concealed gun, and Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) admitted to being armed during the Capitol riot. However, it is unclear if he carried a gun onto the House floor.

After Harris set off the metal detector, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) objected to House members carrying firearms in Congress, claiming Harris attempted to sneak the gun onto the floor. She later expressed that she and other colleagues don’t “feel safe around other members of Congress.”

This is a serious problem in a democracy.   We can not have some lawmakers afraid that the other lawmakers will grab readily available weapons and harm them.    Hugs

  • We can all consider our collective chains yanked. Those weapons were intentionally arranged for shock effect. This is the caliber of GOP representation. I’m surprised there were no Confederate flags on display.

    • Hello Cagjr. I was thinking the same thing. The Republican party has become the party of trolls. They have shown they can not govern, have no unifying principles other than the personal goal of power and money, and seem to only care about themselves personally not the country or people. They do not care for unity, nor compromise. Their idea of compromise is Republicans get everything they want and Democrats apologize for not giving in sooner. Republicans glory in being belligerent thugs, they think wealth equals superiority and might makes right. Their idea of a discussion is to shout down anyone else who might speak. They are in a race to the lower common denominator rather than enlightenment. Hugs

  • Hi Scottie;
I agree with Cagjr there. But, there is a certain degree of common civility and even common sense that one should be able to expect of a congresswoman. I guess it’s ok to have one’s collection of dildo’s made prominent, or perhaps could have a background of a live south France beach, dirty underwear hanging from a bowling trophy, or what ever twists one’s happy place. I say throw it open and may the most fun one win the next presidency. To quote a certain clown that won a while back: “what could we lose”? (shudder).

    Hugs!

    • Hello Brother. Wow, the images sear the minds eye! 😀😁😋😋🥰

We have both know people more interested in hearing their own voice than having a discussion. We have both known people who glory in being assholes. I find Republicans can be put into two groups now. The thinking wealthy block that wants to further enrich their wealthy donors while keeping the working serf / peasants from revolting but in squaller. The other Republicans are more like gang thugs, out to rape, pillage, and destroy all they can not control. They remind me of the Mad Max societies. It seems part of that group think that the Handmaiden’s tale is a guidebook, and the other thinks Lord of the Flies is their governing style. Hugs

  • She is such an idiot. No responsible gun owner has their guns on display like that. You keep them safely locked up, preferably in a gun safe. She acts like they’re dolls or something.

She even looks stupid. She should dye her hair blonde, she’s a insult to brunettes.

    • Hello Polly. 😀😁😂😃 I love it!

Yes you are correct, but as Randy pointed out it seems that she was trying to troll the lib’s and to rile people up. She really is not a thinker, and she is not able to make news like AOC and other people trying to do the right things. So she has to be thuggish and provoking, using emotion instead of reason. Hugs

    • Hello ShellDigger. She is a cosplaying congressperson. Really! She is currently co-sponsoring a Constitutional amendment to limit the number of terms a person can serve in Congress. But last night she tweeted “Protecting and defending the Constitution doesn’t mean trying to rewrite the parts you don’t like”. How dumb is she? This shows that she doesn’t know what she is doing and that she doesn’t care either. Of course the constitution is designed to be changed as needed for the good of the country. I am so tired of these people. Hugs
