Gov. Hutchinson signs bill allowing doctors to refuse to give care on ‘conscience-based objections’

Gov. Asa Hutchinson has signed new legislation that would allow doctors and other health care workers in Arkansas to refuse to perform certain services if they have “conscience-based objections.”

  • This is what is taking place in every state with a Republican majority in the state legislature. Those with Republican statehouses are in overdrive. It is all about racism, homophobia, and xenophobia. Their intention seems to be to flood the courts with suits against their un-constitutional efforts.

    From Americans for Tax Reform. atr.com
    In 2021, Republicans will have full control of the legislative and executive branch in 23 states. Democrats will have full control of the legislative and executive branch in 15 states.

    Population of the 24 fully R-controlled states: 134,035,267
    Population of the 15 fully D-controlled states: 120,326,393

    Republicans have full control of the legislative branch in 30 states. Democrats have full control of the legislative branch in 18 states.

    That is why they are so bold. They know a lot of their efforts will be turned over in the courts, but they expect enough will survive to turn back our society by a hundred years or so.
    Rachel Madow is reporting on this very subject right now. Republicans are on track to do away with democracy in the US.

    • Hello Cagjr. Sadly you are correct the courts will approve some of these. It also sets these states up to sue the federal government if they pass any rights bills such as the Equality Act. Hugs

  • Hi Scottie;
    Under this law, I can’t help but to wonder if I find that I am subjected to fees that surpass my religious or moral objections, am I allowed to then not treat those debts? Asking for a friend.

    • Hello Randy. Very funny. But you already know you cannot interfere with the profit of medical providers or pharmaceutical companies. It is OK for doctors to deny treatment due to their feelings, but one state has made it illegal for any doctor to treat a minor for gender dysphoria no matter if they have parental permission. No medical care at all for transgender minors. The Republican state leaders have put their religious bigotry over the medical needs of minors or parental authority in that state to prove Jesus correct. I admit I am tired of this crap. But at this point I am not sure what to do? Hugs

  • Let me point out that the information from atr.com is a conservative site, but they post some interesting stuff.
