Trump privately vents about federal aid to Puerto Rico as food stamp crisis hits

tRump & crew do not seem to understand that these are US citizens.  Instead they only see these people as “brown people”.   Hugs

https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/politics/political-pulse/os-ne-trump-federal-aids-puerto-rico-20190325-story.html

About 43 percent of Puerto Rico’s residents are grappling with a sudden cut to a benefit they rely on for groceries and other essentials.

Federal lawmakers have also been stalled by the Trump administration, which has derided the extra aid as unnecessary

Puerto Rico will again need the federal government’s help to stave off drastic cuts to Medicaid, the health-care program for the poor and disabled, as well as for the disbursement of billions in hurricane relief aid that has not yet been turned over to the island.

The island would not need Congress to step in to fund its food stamps and Medicaid programs if it were a state. For U.S. states, the federal government has committed to funding these programs’ needs, whatever the cost and without needing to take a vote. But Puerto Rico instead funds its programs through a block grant from the federal government, which need to be regularly renewed, and also gives food stamp benefits about 40 percent smaller than those of U.S. states.

But at an Oval Office meeting on Feb. 22, Trump asked top advisers for ways to limit federal support from going to Puerto Rico, believing it is taking money that should be going to the mainland, according to senior administration officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share details of the presidents’ private remarks.

The meeting — an afternoon session focused on Housing and Urban Development grants — ended abruptly, and Trump has continued to ask aides how much money the island will get. Then, Trump said he wanted the money to only fortify the electric grid there.

A senior administration official with direct knowledge of the meeting described Trump’s stance: “He doesn’t want another single dollar going to the island.”

The impasse comes amid a hardening opposition by the president against extending additional aid to Puerto Rico. Trump sees the island as fundamentally broken and has told advisers that no amount of money will ever fix its systemic problems.

He describes in meetings that large swaths of the island never had power to begin with and that it is “ridiculous” how much money is going to Puerto Rico in food stamp aid, according to the senior official. He has occasionally groused about how ungrateful political officials in Puerto Rico were for the administration’s help, the official said.

Trump also read a Wall Street Journal story from October and became convinced that bondholders and others were profiting off federal government aid — and grew furious. (The story describes prices on Puerto Rico’s bonds increasing after its governing fiscal board projected disaster funding would boost the island’s overall economic health.) Since then, aides have described a president who regularly brings up the island to make sure it is not getting too much money. Current and former officials say Trump often complains in meetings that Puerto Rico doesn’t even know how to spend the money the island has been allocated.

Border Patrol detains 9 year old U.S. citizen for 36 hours after falsely accusing her of lying about her identity

Filed under: Bigotry, Children, Dealing With Abuse, Family, Fascism, Harm, Hate, News, Political, Questions, Race — Scottie @ 11:45

Damn, Damn, and again Damn these people.   When will they see the person, the child, instead of the race?  Angry hugs

In San Diego, the United States Border Patrol grabbed a girl who is 9 and a U.S. citizen and on her way to school, accused her of lying about her identity, then detained her for 36 hours.

They were reunited after the kid had been held away from her parents for 36 hours, when the Mexican consulate got involved.

It’s hard to imagine this sort of thing routinely happening under Trump’s white supremacist presidency to families who look differently. Say, blonde and white and wealthy.

Thelma Galaxia said her friend, Michelle Cardenas, was driving each of their two children from Tijuana, where they live, to their schools in San Ysidro Monday morning, as they do nearly every day.

Galexia’s 9-year-old daughter, Julia Isabel Amparo Medina, attends fourth grade at Nicoloff Elementary School and her 14-year-old son, Oscar Amparo Medina, attends ninth grade at San Ysidro High School. Both are passport-holding U.S. citizens.

Julia Medina told NBC 7 that CBP officers accused her of being someone else, her cousin Melanie. The children said officers also accused Oscar Medina of smuggling and other crimes which he said he didn’t understand.

“My daughter told her brother that the officer told her that if she admitted that she was her cousin, she would be released soon so she could see her mom,” Galaxia said.

“I was scared. I was sad because I didn’t have my mom or my brother. I was completely by myself,” Julia Medina said. She said she woke up several times throughout the night, sad because she wasn’t with her family.

Galaxia said officers made Oscar Medina sign a document that said his little sister was his cousin.

“That is not true,” Galaxia said. “She is my daughter. He was told that he would be taken to jail and they were going to charge him for human trafficking and sex trafficking.”

Oscar told NBC 7 he felt terrible for signing the document. He said he just wanted to see his sister.

When CBP officers told Galaxia that Oscar and Julia Medina were detained, she got the Mexican consulate involved.

CBP was asked by the San Diego NBC news reporters “why officers detained a 9-year-old U.S. citizen and kept her from her mother for 36 hours,” and a spokesperson said CBP “would respond to questions when it had more details on the case.”

Costa Rica Quarantines U.S. Anti-Vaxx Missionary Family Who Brought Measles

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/nosacredcows/2019/03/costa-rica-quarantines-u-s-anti-vaxx-missionary-family-who-brought-measles/

A family of anti-vaxxer Christian missionaries from the United States is under a well-deserved quarantine after they brought measles to Costa Rica.

The 11-member family, including two parents and nine children, was placed under strict isolation orders after two of the kids tested positive for measles. Two others are still awaiting their test results, according to local reports.

In a press conference from the Presidential House the head of Health, Daniel Salas reported that the Costa Rican Institute for Research and Education in Nutrition and Health (INCIENSA) had confirmed that two children under 7 and 9 years old members of that family tested positive in measles, after receiving a few days ago the visit of another US citizen who showed symptoms of the disease.

The authorities confirmed that the 11 people of the family nucleus (father, mother and nine children) were unvaccinated, despite the fact that their home in Cóbano de Puntarenas was visited on three different occasions by Technical Assistants of Primary Health Care (ATAPS). In those visits no one was located inside the house and it was also confirmed that children between 1 and 17 years of age were not included in the Costa Rican Educational System, so they did not receive the vaccine during the periodic visit they made…

Minister Salas confirmed that the family has been living in Costa Rica for two years, they are missionaries and do not have social security. During the contagion period, they visited different locations in the Nicoya peninsula as well as in the province of Limón, forcing the authorities to expand the investigation to determine possible infections to other people without vaccination.

This is part of a larger global trend when it comes to measles cases. Earlier this month, I reported that Iceland was facing its biggest measles outbreak in decades thanks to an unvaccinated visitor. And in January, anti-vaxx beliefs were labeled a top 10 health threat by the World Health Organization.

Mother Fatally Stabbed Her 11-Year-Old Daughter in Order to Send Her to Heaven

https://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2019/03/14/mother-fatally-stabbed-her-11-year-old-daughter-in-order-to-send-her-to-heaven/

An Orlando mother has been arrested for stabbing her 11-year-old daughter multiple times until the girl’s death… under the mere suspicion that she was having sex.

The alleged violence, the mother said in an affidavit, was a way to make sure her daughter would go to Heaven.

Investigators said in the arrest report that Rivera admitted to killing her daughter to prevent her from having sexual relationships with men.

According to the affidavit, the mother said she believed her daughter was having sex with men because she smiled “different.”“Rivera stated she believed with her actions that her daughter is now in heaven,” the affidavit said.

As if having sex is the worst thing a kid could do…

He loves me

Filed under: Family, My Life and Rants, News — Scottie @ 20:00

So this morning I was reading news and getting my posts in order.  Then I read an article about boys who had been abused and as much as I tried not to, I lost it, I  curled up in the corner of the couch where Ron found me.  He had been working all night and he needed to go to bed, but he spent the time to try to reach me in my “place”.

He got me into my blog again and then he went off to bed.

But it hit again.  He got up about 1 PM , after only three hours  of sleep to again find me curled in a ball crying my eyes out.  He changed his plans.

He told me we were going to go get the stones for the front planter that I had wanted.   We had planed for that so I was OK with it all.  Then he said I would drive.  I normally drive when ever we go out.  But I was so upset I was not sure I should drive.  Now I need to say the stone place is like 20 car lengthens from the end of the street that our park is on.  I did not want to but I agreed to do so.  After we got the first load of stone which I put the van right where he needed it ( I have driven everything from double hay wagons to tractor trailers  so backing up a van is easy for me ) We needed a second.  By this time I was feeling much better.

Then this afternoon I started to again fall into a dangerous places.    So Ron asked me to make him supper.  Boy I went to town.  I cooked and fried stuff.  It was only later I realized I had cooked three bags of chicken tenders, two bags of french fries and an entire bag of frozen chicken wings.  Ron never interrupted nor stopped me.  With my digestion system being so upset I couldn’t even eat.  So he ate until he was full and I put all the left overs away into the fridge.  The reason I mention this is to explain how much Ron takes care of me and to also explain why I have not been online much today.     Hugs

Idaho Republicans Kill Bill That Would Have Ended Child Marriage In The State

Filed under: Children, Family, Fascism, Gender, Harm, News, Political, Questions, Religion, Sex — Scottie @ 11:37

Just what the fuck!!!  They would rather a girl get married at 14, be pregnant at 15, be forced to carry the child to term, give birth and spend the rest of her life being a mother which she started doing when she was still a child.   Think of this, they want the right to have a girl have sex and give birth while a child herself.  She can not vote, drink, smoke, sign a contract, or even legally view pornogphy, yet she can see all the penis and do all the sex her husband wants her to.   This is sick and has had religion behind it.   Hugs

Oh and while they do not want the government involved in marriage they also insist on the government having laws against same sex marriage.  WTF!

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2019/03/idaho-republicans-kill-bill-that-would-have-ended-child-marriage-in-the-state/

American Taliban: Led by conservative Christians, Republican lawmakers in Idaho vote down legislation that would have ended child marriage in the state.

Earlier this week, Idaho legislators voted down a bill that would have blocked marriage for children under the age of 16.

If we pass this legislation, it will then become easier in the state of Idaho to obtain an abortion at 15 years old than it will to decide to form a family and create a family for a child that has been conceived.

While Republican Rep. Bryan Zollinger said:

I do not think courts should be involved in marriage at all. I don’t believe there should be a license required to get married. I think two willing people should be able to go and get married.

Today was a sad day in the Idaho House. What I thought was a modest compromise to try to prevent coercion and potential abuse of children, by raising the floor on the marriage age to 16 – let me repeat, 16 – turned out to be too progressive for too many of my republican colleagues. Arguments against: parental rights and a disagreement with aligning marriage laws with the statutory rape laws. I’m at a loss.

Fun fact: According to a national report, Idaho has the highest rate of child marriage in the U.S. And the numbers are appalling. The Idaho Statesman reports:

From 2000 to 2010, 4,080 children in Idaho were married, according to data compiled from 38 states by Unchained at Last, a national advocacy group working to end forced and child marriages in America. The youngest minor wed in Idaho was 13.

Think about that – in the 21st century, a 13-year-old child was married in the state of Idaho. Not Pakistan. Idaho. Can you say “American Taliban”?

Bottom line: Led by conservative Christians, Republican lawmakers in Idaho voted down legislation that would have ended child marriage in the state.

Another child has died due to denying medical science

“This case underscores the serious health and safety risks of taking medical advice from someone who lacks a license and the proper training that goes with it,” said Feuer. “These convictions send a strong message that my office will continue to hold accountable those whose actions place lives in danger.”

In August, 2014, Morrow came to the family’s Harbor Gateway home to treat the 13-year-old victim after he became extremely ill due to complications from his Type-1 diabetes. Shortly before the victim died, Morrow told the victim’s parents not to give him insulin but instead to administer the herbs that he was selling. The victim suffered a cardiac arrest and died the next day as a result of complications from his diabetes. The medical examiner determined the victim would have lived had he received proper medical treatment.

Court Grants Birthright Citizenship To Twin Son Of Gay Couple, One Son Has US Dad, Other Has Israeli Father

Filed under: Bigotry, Children, Family, Fascism, Gender, Hate, Homosexual, News, Political, Questions, Religion — Scottie @ 15:10

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is famous for being a Evangelical Christian and a completely anti-LGBTQ.   He really dislikes LGBTQ.  So these actions and the way it was done coming from the State Department doesn’t surprise me, but it is an other example of how they are trying to make same sex marriages mean nothing.   As one Anti-LGBTQ activist put it ” Just because they can get married doesn’t mean they get the rights and privilege of a real marriage”.  They are trying to chip away at our marriages just as they have done to abortion rights in this country.  They really are hateful people.   Someone should remind them this is a secular country still despite their best effort to change it to a theocracy.   Please go to the report to read more.    Hugs

NBC News reports:

A federal judge in California ruled Thursday that a twin son of a gay married couple has been an American citizen since birth, handing a defeat to the U.S. government, which had only granted the status to his brother. The State Department was wrong to deny citizenship to 2-year-old Ethan Dvash-Banks, District Judge John F. Walter found. The lawsuit filed by the boys’ parents, Andrew and Elad Dvash-Banks, sought the same rights for Ethan that his brother, Aiden, has as a citizen.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band – Dance Little Jean

Filed under: Children, Family, Love, Song, Songs and Music, Things I like — Scottie @ 07:24

Dance Little Jean
I played a wedding for the money,
And I wished that I could tell the bride and groom
Just what I thought of marriage
And what’s in store after their honeymoon.
And I was grumblin’ to the dancers
‘Bout how men and women ought to live apart
And how a promise never made can not be broken
And can never break your heart
When suddenly from out of nowhere,
A little girl came dancing ‘cross the floor,
And all her crinolines were billowing
Beneath the skirt of calico that she wore.
Oh what a joy fell on the honored guests
As each of them was drawn inside her dream,
And they laughed and clapped and stomped their feet
And hollered at her “dance little jean”
Dance, little jean, this day is for you,
Two people you love, stood up and said “I do”
Dance little jean, the prayer that you had
Was answered today
Your mama’s marrying your dad
Well, my cynical heart just melted
‘Cause I knew what this get together meant
How it ended year of tears and sad confusion
That the little girl had spent.
Well they told the band to pack it up
About the time the couple cut the cake,
But we played as long as they stayed
For love and laughs and little jeanie’s sake.
Dance, little jean, this day is for you,
Two people you love, stood up and said “I do”
Dance little jean, the prayer that you had
Was answered today
Your mama’s marrying your dad

Missouri Planned Parenthood Set on Fire in Possible Hate Crime

If this was indeed a hate crime, it’s hard to know what the arsonist hoped to accomplish. It’s possible the person was so ignorant that he or she wrongly assumed the facility offered abortions. They don’t. In fact, there’s only one Planned Parenthood in the state that currently offers those services, and it’s in St. Louis.

Which means this criminal just tried torching a building that offers cancer screenings.

West Virginia GOP State Rep: If My Son Or Daughter Say They Are Gay, I’ll See If They Can Swim

https://www.joemygod.com/2019/02/west-virginia-gop-state-rep-if-my-son-or-daughter-say-they-are-gay-ill-see-if-they-can-swim-video/

Last week Porterfield called LGBTs a “modern day terrorist KKK” when speaking in support of a bill that would ban local LGBT rights ordinances statewide. That bill failed to advance out of committee. But wait, there’s more:

Porterfield was asked by a WVVA reporter “what would happen” if his son or daughter came to him years from now and said they might be gay or lesbian. “Well, I would dress my daughter first, as I would take her for a pedicure, I’d take her to get her nails done, and see if she could swim,” Porterfield said as he smiled.

“If it was my son, I would probably take him hunting, I would take him fishing, then I’d see if he could swim,” Porterfield, wearing a MAGA hat, replied without hesitation. He continued to grin as the reporter, somewhat shocked, paused, then asked him to clarify. “I just want to make sure they could swim,” he repeated when questioned, continuing to grin.
