Look at child separation. Look at children dying in ICE custudy. Look at Puerto Rico. Charlottesville. Look at every Trump tweet directed at black politicians and black celebrities. Look at how NFL players were treated. Muslim ban. It’s obvious.

White conservatives want racism to control Republican Party. They want whiteness reprioritized. It used to be more hidden, now it’s out in the open. Clear as day.

Start the impeachment and use the Mueller Report as the outline. White ‘anxious’ voters from 2016 can’t hide from their shitty choice any longer.

Christians pushing their religion in schools on your children and making taxpayers pay if they are sued

Alabama’s Bible-in-School Bill Would Break the Law Before Classes Even Begin

Alabama’s Bible-in-School Bill Would Break the Law Before Classes Even Begin

Like several other Republican-dominated states using the Project Blitz playbook, Alabama is on the verge of passing a “Bible literacy” bill.

American Atheists puts that in English:

… SB 14 encourages teachers to discuss the Bible as a source of morality and public policy. It also allows schools to display “religious materials” like crosses during certain classes. Under SB 14, parents can’t sue the school districts if teachers try to indoctrinate children, a provision that blatantly violates parents’ and students’ First Amendment rights.

“Just like Alabama’s abortion ban, this ‘Bible class’ bill is a clear challenge to constitutional precedent,” said Alison Gill, American Atheists’ Vice President for Legal and Policy. “This bill is so extreme it even encourages school districts and teachers to break the law and proselytize, since it claims to shield them from legal responsibility.”

In theory, there’s nothing in this bill preventing a teacher from putting Christian crosses all over the classroom the way you might see the letters of the alphabet in a grade school.

That last statement is huge, too. The bill calls for neutrality, but if teachers break that rule and proselytize, the school district will never have to pay a price for it. If there’s a lawsuit that results in a payout for the plaintiffs, the bill says it’ll be covered by state taxpayers.

If you’re a school district, then, what’s stopping you from finding a pastor with teaching credentials to run the classes no differently from Sunday school? You literally have nothing to lose.

TN Christian Prosecutor: Gay People Don’t Deserve Domestic Violence Protections

Again a religious ideologue who pushed his way into political position to force his religious views on everyone.   He doesn’t care about the law, only his religion.   He doesn’t see the hypocrisy of claiming those his religion disagrees with as “special rights” while demanding special rights for his religion.   I am not a hateful person, I am not an angry person, but after 50 years of this same fight I struggle not to react with anger and hate with these people.  Hugs

TN Christian Prosecutor: Gay People Don’t Deserve Domestic Violence Protections

According to a sermon he gave at the 2018 Chafer Theological Seminary Bible Conference — but which is only getting attention now — Northcott was explaining the difficulties he faced as a result of the marriage equality decision by the Supreme Court. One of them was the decision of whether to prosecute a case of assault as “domestic violence” — a charge that carries a greater possible punishment — when the couple in question was in a same-sex marriage.

… the social engineers on the Supreme Court decided that we now have homosexual marriage. I disagree with them. What do I do with domestic assaults?… The reason that there’s [enhanced] punishment on domestic [violence] is to recognize and protect the sanctity of marriage. And I said there’s no marriage to protect. So I don’t prosecute them as domestics.

He told the crowd that decisions like this were precisely why they should always “elect a good Christian DA.” It’s hard to make sense of that since his theology overrides the law. That means he has no business being in a position where his job is to prosecute people who break the rules. The law means nothing if you think your religion gives you permission to break the rules — or, in this case, not apply them.

How can you dismiss the Supreme Court as activist judges when you yourself refuse to follow the law because you just don’t feel like it?

Alabama Mayor Defends Rant About the Need to “Kill” LGBTQ People and Liberals

It is not enough for them to define us out of existence, they want us dead.   They do not see LGBTQ as people, as humans.  Just as white supremacists don’t think people of other skin tones are humans either.  We are the other.  Once you do that then it is OK to kill the non-human other.  To own them, to deny them rights, to mistreat them.  This is religion at its finest .

Alabama Mayor Defends Rant About the Need to “Kill” LGBTQ People and Liberals

Mark Chambers, the mayor of Carbon Hill, Alabama, said in a Facebook post that the only solution to stopping certain groups — including LGBTQ people, those who are pro-choice, and Socialists — from getting “more rights than the majority” would be “to kill the problem out. I know it’s bad to say but without killing them out there’s no way to fix it.”

Notice in the article that his fear is minorities getting more rights than the majority. The reality is that LGBTQ people and others just want equal treatment. But neutrality is blasphemy to people like Chambers.

The best thing about the segment is hearing Chambers say someone else made the comments, only to have reporter Brittany Dionne tell him they’re on the same Facebook page that includes pictures of his family.

Only in Alabama can a mayor threaten to kill LGBTQ people and it’s still not the worst thing elected officials have done in the past month.

Pride month and fascism

I just have read several news articles where Republican politicians in places of power have increased pressure on all venues to stop any and all pride events.  They threaten to use all the power of their position to negatively effect any venue that allows a pride event to be held.  This is clearly fascism, hatred, bigotry, and all of them doing this claim to be Christian.   This is an attack on our secular nation.  Hugs

NOM Co-Founder Robert George Behind State Department’s New “Natural Law” Rights Commission

REPORT: NOM Co-Founder Robert George Behind State Department’s New “Natural Law” Rights Commission

ABC News reports:

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is setting up a commission at the State Department to redefine human rights as based on what the department is describing as “natural law and natural rights.” Use of the term “natural law” has concerned some advocacy groups and department staff, as it is interpreted in this case as “God-given” or religiously-based rights that affect issues like sexuality, abortion rights, and more. In particular, the phrase has been prominent in the work of Princeton professor Robert George.

Author of the 1999 book “In Defense of Natural Law,” where he argued against homosexuality and abortion rights and in favor of religious liberty, George also wrote the original concept note that outlined a vision for the commission, the source said.

As you may recall, after the Supreme Court’s Obergefellruling, George called for “all federal and state officeholders in the United States” to defy the decision. Robert George is also the author of 2009’s Manhattan Declaration, which calls for Christians to engage in civil disobedience against all LGBT rights laws.

LGBTQ People Have Reason to Fear State Dept’s New Committee on “Natural Rights”

LGBTQ People Have Reason to Fear State Dept’s New Committee on “Natural Rights”

Last night, the U.S. State Department, now headed up by Mike Pompeoannounced the formation of a “Commission on Unalienable Rights.” That sounds innocuous enough until you read the details.

The Commission will provide the Secretary of State advice and recommendations concerning international human rights matters. The Commission will provide fresh thinking about human rights discourse where such discourse has departed from our nation’s founding principles of natural law and natural rights.

That word “natural” is scaring progressives for good reason since it’s evangelical code for anti-LGBTQ and anti-women policies. As conservatives have used it in the past, bills protecting “natural law and natural rights” have included blocking trans people from serving in the military, opposing marriage equality, and preventing women from controlling their own bodies.

At a time when the U.S. should be spreading freedom and democracy, this Republican administration had made it very clear that faith-based bigotry is acceptable no matter how many people are thrown under the bus to appease right-wing Christians.

POLITICO notes:

… the administration also has rolled back domestic regulations aimed at protecting members of the LGBT community, especially those who are transgender.

It also has cut down sections about women’s reproductive rights in the State Department’s annual human rights report and made attempts to eliminate references to “sexual and reproductive health” in U.N. documents.

“illegally smuggling herself into the country is not a lifestyle that can provide any stability for the child.”

Trump Administration Separates Some Migrant Mothers From Their Newborns Before Returning Them to Detention

There is a precedent for the court system using migration, immigration status, and detainment to strip migrants of their parental rights. An example of this is a 2007 case in which a judge terminated an undocumented mother’s parental rights, saying that “illegally smuggling herself into the country is not a lifestyle that can provide any stability for the child.” A second judge upheld the ruling, saying that the undocumented mother “abandoned” her U.S. citizen son when she was detained in federal immigration custody.

This same scenario could be playing out for migrants who give birth in USMS custody after being prosecuted under zero-tolerance, but solid numbers are hard to come by. Agencies are unwilling to share this information with media, and women who have given birth in custody seem unwilling, unable, or afraid to speak out, based on Rewire.News’ multiple attempts to speak to asylum seekers about their experiences in USMS custody.

Trump Administration Separates Some Migrant Mothers From Their Newborns Before Returning Them to Detention

When will this end?  Where will it end?  Taking children from parents simply because they are brown?  Taking newborns from mothers because they are brown?  We have seen this in history where a group of people were separated, held in camps, families broken up, and then …!

Trump Administration Separates Some Migrant Mothers From Their Newborns Before Returning Them to Detention

“I don’t know if they lose their babies for good,” one doctor said. “But I do know the process is torturous for them.”

It has been almost a year since President Donald Trump signed the executive order purporting to end his policy of separating parents and children at the U.S.-Mexico border. However, his administration’s broader zero-tolerance policy continues today—and because of it, a particularly heinous form of family separation is playing out in Texas.

As Rewire.News reported in part one of this series, migrants prosecuted under the “zero-tolerance” policy are remanded to U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) custody, and this is when lapses in medical care happen. Advocates told Rewire.Newspregnant migrants detained in USMS custody are not receiving adequate services, and they are shackled when accessing prenatal and postpartum care. Some women are even shackled during birth, as Rewire.News reported in part two of this series.

Advocates also report that some asylum seekers in the Western District of Texas who have given birth in USMS custody were forced to hand over their newborns to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). Reuniting with their newborn hinges on their release from federal custody, and whether they can access legal help to navigate the child welfare system. We learned that women who find their way to advocacy organizations appear to be reuniting with their newborns, but Rewire.News was unable to verify what happens to the children of women who do not have access to legal help.

Late last year, Dr. Shelly (a pseudonym), an OB-GYN in the Western District of Texas, said there were multiple cases where pregnant migrants who had just given birth at her hospital were forced to give their children up to Texas DFPS.

Dr. Shelly said she doesn’t know if the U.S. citizen newborns of detained parents are eventually adopted or whether detained patients are deported without regaining custody of their babies. The OB-GYN is also unsure if foster parents have any obligation to remain in communication with parents remanded to USMS custody.

According to USMS, the onus for child care placement is on the detained parent, though it appears as if asylum seekers who give birth in USMS custody don’t have many choices at all.

There is much more at the link above.  Please read it and understand.  They take the children with no plan to return the baby to the mother.  The department claims that all responsibility to regain custody of the child is with the prisoner!   How can a prisoner do that?   They are selling these children!  They transfer them to Christian adoption agencies that charge tens of thousands of dollars per child to a family that wants to adopt.  This has to stop and the people involved prosecuted!   Hugs
