MDavis sent me this: The 14 Defining Characteristics Of Fascism

Filed under: Fascism, Harm, History, News, Political, Questions, Race, Reason, TIL — Scottie @ 19:23

I really strongly ask everyone to read this.   I can not take quotes from it because everything is totally valid and super important.  I was stunned at how the US I am living in today fits all these criteria.  We need to react now to save the ones our fascist government wants to harm, or suffer what history has show will come to us next.  I know what choice I make.  I hope you make the same.   Hugs

“illegally smuggling herself into the country is not a lifestyle that can provide any stability for the child.”

Simply coming to the US as a refugee is a sin worthy of losing your child.  People come here in this way to save their children’s lives.  What a price to pay to keep your child alive.  Hugs

Trump Administration Separates Some Migrant Mothers From Their Newborns Before Returning Them to Detention

There is a precedent for the court system using migration, immigration status, and detainment to strip migrants of their parental rights. An example of this is a 2007 case in which a judge terminated an undocumented mother’s parental rights, saying that “illegally smuggling herself into the country is not a lifestyle that can provide any stability for the child.” A second judge upheld the ruling, saying that the undocumented mother “abandoned” her U.S. citizen son when she was detained in federal immigration custody.

This same scenario could be playing out for migrants who give birth in USMS custody after being prosecuted under zero-tolerance, but solid numbers are hard to come by. Agencies are unwilling to share this information with media, and women who have given birth in custody seem unwilling, unable, or afraid to speak out, based on Rewire.News’ multiple attempts to speak to asylum seekers about their experiences in USMS custody.

Trump Administration Separates Some Migrant Mothers From Their Newborns Before Returning Them to Detention

When will this end?  Where will it end?  Taking children from parents simply because they are brown?  Taking newborns from mothers because they are brown?  We have seen this in history where a group of people were separated, held in camps, families broken up, and then …!

Trump Administration Separates Some Migrant Mothers From Their Newborns Before Returning Them to Detention

“I don’t know if they lose their babies for good,” one doctor said. “But I do know the process is torturous for them.”

It has been almost a year since President Donald Trump signed the executive order purporting to end his policy of separating parents and children at the U.S.-Mexico border. However, his administration’s broader zero-tolerance policy continues today—and because of it, a particularly heinous form of family separation is playing out in Texas.

As Rewire.News reported in part one of this series, migrants prosecuted under the “zero-tolerance” policy are remanded to U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) custody, and this is when lapses in medical care happen. Advocates told Rewire.Newspregnant migrants detained in USMS custody are not receiving adequate services, and they are shackled when accessing prenatal and postpartum care. Some women are even shackled during birth, as Rewire.News reported in part two of this series.

Advocates also report that some asylum seekers in the Western District of Texas who have given birth in USMS custody were forced to hand over their newborns to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). Reuniting with their newborn hinges on their release from federal custody, and whether they can access legal help to navigate the child welfare system. We learned that women who find their way to advocacy organizations appear to be reuniting with their newborns, but Rewire.News was unable to verify what happens to the children of women who do not have access to legal help.

Late last year, Dr. Shelly (a pseudonym), an OB-GYN in the Western District of Texas, said there were multiple cases where pregnant migrants who had just given birth at her hospital were forced to give their children up to Texas DFPS.

Dr. Shelly said she doesn’t know if the U.S. citizen newborns of detained parents are eventually adopted or whether detained patients are deported without regaining custody of their babies. The OB-GYN is also unsure if foster parents have any obligation to remain in communication with parents remanded to USMS custody.

According to USMS, the onus for child care placement is on the detained parent, though it appears as if asylum seekers who give birth in USMS custody don’t have many choices at all.

There is much more at the link above.  Please read it and understand.  They take the children with no plan to return the baby to the mother.  The department claims that all responsibility to regain custody of the child is with the prisoner!   How can a prisoner do that?   They are selling these children!  They transfer them to Christian adoption agencies that charge tens of thousands of dollars per child to a family that wants to adopt.  This has to stop and the people involved prosecuted!   Hugs

Reminder of what is causing the problem

Filed under: Asshole / Jerk, Bigotry, Children, Criminal, Family, Fascism, Harm, Hate, News, Political, Questions, Race — Scottie @ 18:11

I would like to remind everyone of what the many children in detention on the border in stations not designed to hold them is caused by.  The US government changed the policy under tRump to stop releasing asylum seekers in to the US until their hearings.  Deriding this as “catch and release” the current administration decided to hold everyone of the asylum seekers including families with children in detention.  This was a program that was working.  By the DOJ’s own website the percentage of asylum seekers who showed up to their hearings was over 86 to 92%.   As the numbers of those in detention grew the government needed bigger facilities.  Rather than admit they were wrong they doubled down trying to hold even more people longer, making it harder for families of asylum seekers to come get them.  Basically the administration did everything they could to make it impossible for people to leave detention, thus making the issue even more of a crisis.  The current administration is trying to force the point of how bad it is at the border and who we need to slam shut any entry.   This is their way of proving it to the US population.   Do not fall for this selective reporting of the truth.   Hugs

Cop Pulls Gun On Man #LivingWhileBlack

Filed under: Asshole / Jerk, Bigotry, Criminal, Fascism, Harm, Hate, News, Political, Questions, Race — Scottie @ 08:21

This is an important video on how racist police can use an innocent situation to escalate it into being a deadly result for POC.  This was a young man who lived int eh building picking up trash.  The officer demanded all sorts of ID from the black man and refused to believe he lived there even when he offered to open the door for him.   The police man drew his taser and his gun on the young man who is 20 feet from him and the officer kept saying he felt threatened, which is code for I am going to shoot you and get away with it.  The young man survived because responding back up officers felt the police officer was way out of line.  The offending police officer was allowed to resign and collect about $69,000 dollars in benefits after an investigation found a troubling past of abuses of POC.  The video has CC.  Hugs

These doctors risked their careers to expose the dangers children face in immigrant family detention

“Detention of innocent children should never occur in a civilized society, especially if there are less restrictive options, because the risk of harm to children simply cannot be justified,” they wrote.

• Significant weight loss in children that went largely unnoticed by the facility medical staff, including a 16-month-old baby who lost nearly a third of his body weight over 10 days during a diarrheal disease but was never given IV fluids or sent to an emergency room.
• A 27-day-old baby who had a seizure from bleeding inside his skull that was missed by the facility on arrival.
• Numerous children who suffered severe finger injuries while confined in a facility that was designed as a medium-security prison for adults.
“That one really bothered me,” Allen says, describing how they uncovered the pattern by combing through the charts of children who’d been taken to the emergency room.
“These are shattered fingers, significant lacerations — probably some of the injuries disfiguring. And you start to think about how they’re happening. And they’re these heavy, spring-loaded doors in a facility that was constructed to have adult males … and the light bulb goes on that this is a complete disaster,” he says. “Because they’re using cells, but they paint them pretty colors and they now call them dorm rooms. But it’s got the same door.”
Once the problem was pointed out, he says, officials were still slow to correct it — something that Allen says was “very discouraging to see.”
“Somewhere out there there’s kids walking around with disfigured fingers for the rest of their life,” he says, “because no one could really get their act together to fix that problem.
“Even if you could pour money and resources into properly staffing these facilities and giving them programming,” Allen says, “the simple act of detaining and indefinite detention … is irreparably harmful to children.”
The Trump administration has taken several notable steps in the past year to pave the way for increased family detention:
• In his executive order announcing an end to family separations, President Trump wrote that the administration would keep families together “including by detaining alien families together where appropriate.”
• Officials have proposed new regulations that would circumvent a federal court settlement that limits the amount of time children can be detained to 20 days. If implemented, the administration’s plan would allow for indefinite family detention.
• In budget requests, officials have repeatedly outlined plans to increase family detention capacity. The White House’s proposed 2020 budget includes a plan to expand capacity to 10,000 family detention beds, a request that would quadruple the number of beds currently funded. And a recent emergency budget request to Congress asked for funding to add 960 beds to the Dilley facility.
• Officials say the administration is weighing the possibility of targeting more families for deportation to deter other migrants from making the trek north to the US border. While they haven’t said whether those plans would involve detaining families, given the logistics involved in planning deportation flights, it’s likely any large-scale effort to deport more people would also involve immigrant detention.
“The practice of detaining children and families is no longer an issue of policy dispute,” they wrote in their March letter to Congress. “It is a willful policy that knowingly inflicts serious harm to children, including risk of death.”

Republicans are human trafficking the vulnerable.

When Republicans say ‘illegals’, they are talking about themselves.

(via truth-has-a-liberal-bias)

Trump cowardice is manifest in everything he does. The name calling? No press conferences? The six deferments? The lack of service? The misogyny? The racism? The cheating? The lying?

The guy brags about being intelligent by saying he has ‘the best brain’. You lose brain cells just listening to the moron.

Trump insecurity is off the charts. Those who enable are just as insecure and weak-minded.

The cure? Vote for Democrats in 2020. Remove these disgraceful Republicans from office.

No honor. No taxes. No service. No humility. No class. No trust. No morals. No competence. No compassion. No empathy.

Just cruelty and narcissism.

Our biggest enemy bought the GOP because they both share the same policy: destroy the America that is inclusive and principled.

Republicans can not handle expanding rights. They have sided with homophobic Russia. It’s that simple.

Eighteen months ago, a GOP-controlled Congress said no. Since them, MsB has cut up a journalist with a handsaw, and Saudi Arabia has committed atrocities toward Yemini civilians, including children. You know, those people with heartbeats.

Fuck Pompeo for having this attitude that he is loyal to Saudis out of concern for security.

Of course they want this: a 51st state specifically made for conservative Christians

WA Lawmaker Attends Fundraiser for Liberty, a Proposed 51st State for Christians

WA Lawmaker Attends Fundraiser for Liberty, a Proposed 51st State for Christians

Liberty would span several states in the Pacific Northwest:

It’s not merely a pipe dream. Washington State Rep. Matt Shea, best known for his “Biblical Basis for War” manifesto, has already proposed actual legislation to create Liberty.

The lineup of speakers included Shea, a Spokane Valley Republican who has championed the Liberty State movement; Spokane City Councilman Mike Fagan; Spokane City Council candidate Tim Benn; and Loren Culp, the police chief in Republic, Washington, who made national headlines when he pledged not to enforce a controversial gun control initiative that voters passed in November.

County Prosecutor Larry Haskell, former Treasurer Rob Chase and gun activist Anthony Bosworth also were in attendance, as were Barry and Anne Byrd, who lead the Marble Community Fellowship in northern Stevens County. (In 1988, Barry Byrd helped pen a Christian Identity manifesto that referred to Jews as “anti-Christs” and condemned interracial marriage, though the Byrds have since tried to distance themselves from racist ideology.)

Before you call them extremists, though, at least listen to what Shea’s legislative assistant Rene’ Holaday said:

[Holaday] said supporters of the 51st state idea were bound by a common sentiment: “It’s either going to be bloodshed or Liberty State.”

Okay, now you can call them extremists. (They don’t have a publicly available Constitution for the new state, but they do have an official state rifle: The AR-15.)

Shea delivered the last speech of the night, covering many of his usual talking points. He denied the existence of global warming, instead blaming seasonal wildfires on changes in forest management practices. He spoke of the cultural and political differences between Eastern and Western Washington. He claimed the United States is “a Christian nation” under siege by atheists and Communists.

The Communists and atheists — those that are responsible for the deaths of more people than any other belief system in the history of the world — unfurled their flag on the Capitol steps this last spring,” he said.

What separation of church and state? Religious right is pushing its dogma hard behind the scenes in Washington

Right-wing D.C. prayer group pushing Trump administration’s anti-sex agenda

Recently, a congressional staffer going about his business on the Hill encountered a couple of people who handed him a pamphlet with the scintillating title “Sexual Sin and the Aphrodisiac of Power.” Sadly, this was not a post-#MeToo effort to discourage sexual harassment in the halls of Congress. Instead, the document implored “legislators, staff and lobbyists” to adopt a strict fundamentalist view of sexuality, which holds that there is no legitimate expression of sex — including masturbation — outside “the confines and commitment of a husband and a wife (a male and a female) in the bonds of matrimony.”

Most urban dwellers, in Washington or elsewhere, have had these chance encounters with religious proselytizers trying to lure in the lost, lonely and emotionally vulnerable. But this was no random encounter with some true believer or doorbell-ringer. These folks were working for Capitol Ministries, a powerful right-wing group that is laser-focused on founder Ralph Drollinger’s goal of recruiting public leaders and leaning on them to impose the group’s far-right views on a public that overwhelmingly rejects them.

Furthermore, the group has been quite successful so far. As the pamphlet indicated, sponsors of the Capitol Ministries Bible Studies includes seven members of President Trump’s Cabinet, the head of NASA, and Vice President Mike Pence. According to Peter Montgomery of People for the American Way, who has been monitoring Capitol Ministries for years now, the group has weekly Bible studies for House members and senators, as well as one for Cabinet officials.

“[Drollinger] uses this really rare and privileged access he has by doing things like a Bible study with members of the Cabinet to tell these powerful public officials that the Bible mandates right-wing economic, social and environmental policies,” Montgomery told Salon.

This is evidence, he continued, “that the Trump administration is the culmination of the religious right’s takeover of the Republican Party over the last few decades.”

For instance, in a 2018 class, Drollinger taught his acolytes that “Government is meant by God to quell evil” adding, “Governments and their leaders must send a constant message that sin will be punished.” So the policy upshot of that message would be that Americans can believe whatever they want in private, but if they commit what Drollinger teaches is “sin,” they should face governmental punishment.

For example, Capitol Ministries counts Alex Azar, Trump’s secretary of Health and Human Services, as a member. Under Azar’s leadership, HHS has moved swiftly to live up to Drollinger’s instruction to “send a constant message that sin will be punished.”

One of the first actions by HHS under Azar was to announce a dramatic remaking of the Title X program such that it can’t fulfill its central stated main purpose, which is distributing contraception to low income women. A leaked HHS memo implored employees to shift focus away from effective, female-controlled methods of contraception towards unpopular and ineffective ones, such as pressuring patients to use periodic or even total sexual abstention. HHS has also restructured the program to divert funds away from reproductive health clinics that effectively serve patients to organizations with less outreach or expertise.

In at least one case, HHS funds have been channeled to an anti-choice group that opposes the use of any form of contraception, so that women who depend on Title X for birth control can now get a finger-wagging lecture on the evils of fornication instead.
