Secretary Of State Mike Pompeo: ‘We Will Continue To Fight… Until The Rapture’

The fact is, Pompeo has a well deserved reputation as a dangerous Christian extremist. Indeed, Pompeo has even gone so far as to endorse the notion of a “Holy War” between Christians and Muslims, and believes the fight against terrorism is a war between Islam and Christianity.

Speaking at a church group in Wichita, Kansas, in 2014, Pompeo claimed that Christianity was the “only solution” to combat terrorism, arguing that the greatest “threat to America” is caused by “people who deeply believe that Islam is the way.”

Pompeo continued:

They (Muslims) abhor Christians, and will continue to press against us until we make sure that we pray and stand and fight and make sure that we know that Jesus Christ our savior is truly the only solution for our world.

That’s right, the Secretary of State, America’s top diplomat, believes that “Jesus Christ our savior is truly the only solution for our world.”

Bottom line: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is a dangerous Christian extremist. His Holy War mentality is alarming, and his open contempt for LGBT people is deplorable. Finally, any man who believes in the Rapture and claims that “Jesus Christ our savior is truly the only solution for our world” is simply not fit to serve in any significant foreign policy capacity.

Tennessee Lawyer Threatens County Clerks Who Issue Same-Sex Marriage Licenses

Here is another Christian saving the country, the world, and everyone’s souls by being as hateful as possible to his preferred victims.   What a way to spread the love of the lord?   When will these asshole learn that freedom of religion is also freedom from their religion.   They have every right to their thoughts and to practice their faith, they do not have the right to push it on to anyone else nor oppress those they don’t like.  I am sick of these people.   Hugs

Tennessee Lawyer Threatens County Clerks Who Issue Same-Sex Marriage Licenses

This week, every single one of the 95 county clerks in the State of Tennessee received threatening letters accusing them of breaking the law and violating civil rights… all for doing their jobs by issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

As general legal counsel for the Constitutional Government Defense Fund, an initiative run by Family Action Council of Tennessee (FACT), he was involved in the state’s earliest challenges the Obergefell ruling. Currently, he’s also partnering with Tennessee Independent Baptists for Religious Liberty (TIBRL) as they file a legal challenge against the Tennessee Department of Health, claiming ministers’ conscience rights are being violated when the government requires them to sign marriage certificates that “define marriage without regard to the sex of the two parties.”

The Department’s Certificate is inextricably tied to the marriage license issued by County Clerks that, according to Tenn. Code Ann. 36-3-103(a), is the legal document that actually authorizes my clients to solemnize the marriages they conduct by ceremony… However, the issuance of licenses by county clerks to persons other than a “male and female contracting party” as stated in Tenn. Code Ann. 36-3-103(a)(1) presents my clients with a grave civil rights issue of conscience under the Tennessee [Constitution], Article I, section 3, as well as a grave civil rights issue under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution regarding the free exercise of religion and government-compelled speech.

In conversation with noted LGBTQ news outlet The Washington Blade, Fowler described his intentions:

The purpose of the letter was simply that which was stated, to call to the attention of our county clerks the constitutional fact that the provisions in our state constitution applicable to marriage licenses have not been enjoined by a court or repealed by vote of the people, meaning they have not been excused from complying with it and, because they are purely administrative officials, they have no judicial authority to interpret the U.S. Constitution or the Tennessee Constitution, or to interpret licensing statutes in light of the language in the two Constitutions and the Obergefell ruling. They are not judges.

Neither are all of us, but we have to follow the law, too.

In any case, Fowler is just admitting that he wants to make county clerks nervous that they might be falling afoul of the law if they continue to do their jobs as they’ve been instructed.

According to Chris Sanders, president of the Tennessee Equality Project, Fowler’s letters amount to little more than a bad-faith attempt to undermine settled law:

We are well aware that some continue to look for ways to deny and ignore the plain meaning of the Obergefell ruling and the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Marriage equality is equal protection of the laws, and it is the law of the land.

It’s hard to avoid the impression that Fowler is playing with emotional manipulation here. He’s sent county clerks hefty packets with an important-looking letter full of hard-to-parse jargon, backed up by no less than five enclosures packed with legalese, and he’s playing on understandable fears of repercussions in the hope that maybe, somewhere in Tennessee, some LGBTQ couple will have a harder time getting a marriage license because of him.

How 4 more years of Trump could send the U.S. down the path toward corrupt oligarchy

How 4 more years of Trump could send the U.S. down the path toward corrupt oligarchy

For 20 years, Hungary was a functioning democracy; today, it’s a corrupt oligarchy.

In nine short years since he was elected in 2010, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, now fabulously wealthy by Hungarian standards and an oligarch himself, succeeded in transforming his nation’s government from a functioning European democracy into an autocratic and oligarchic regime of single-party rule.

Orbán took over the Fidesz Party, once a conventional “conservative” political party, with the theme of restoring “Christian” purity and making “Hungary great again.” His rallies regularly draw tens of thousands.

He campaigned on building a wall across the entirety of Hungary’s southern border, a promise he has largely kept.

He altered the nation’s Constitution to do what we’d call gerrymandering and voter suppression, ensuring that his party, Fidesz, would win more than two-thirds of the votes in pretty much every federal election well into the future.

He’s now packed the courts so thoroughly that legal challenges against him and his party go nowhere.

There is so much more at the link above.   It is frightening how fast him and his buddies did this.   This is the world the Republicans want for the US.   Everything the Republicans have tried to do follows this playbook.   He is stripping science out of schools, caging refuge kids.    It is all there.    And yes Steven Bannon was involved there also.   Hugs

Saudi Arabia funds global terrorism. Trump loves them. Republicans have zero problem with arming the same country that attacked US on Sept 11 as they cheer a ‘Muslim ban’ even though SA is muslim country.

To be Republican is to be braindead and a bloodthirsty chickenhawk.

Pompeo, Awaiting the Rapture, Pushed Trump to Strike Iranian General Soleimani

Pompeo, Awaiting the Rapture, Pushed Trump to Strike Iranian General Soleimani

The Washington Post has reported that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was the main force that pushed Trump into assassinating Iranian Major General Soleimani. Pompeo, according to a New York Times reporter, had a fixation with a bible passage about Queen Esther protecting Israel from Iran. Pompeo’s extreme hostility towards Iran is motivated by his extreme religious beliefs.

Mike Pompeo is a conservative evangelical Christian who believes in the rapture and that God is working through Trump and himself.

Both Mike Pompeo and Mike Pence who have pushed Trump towards aggressive action towards Iran believe that there is a battle between good and evil that will end with “the Rapture”. A key belief of the evangelical Christian extremists is the establishment of a “greater Israel” before the end of days.

More at the link above.   It is scary how people in upper levels of our government use their religion and their church doctrines to make decisions that have life and death consequences for the secular country.   It is not for the good of the country they are acting, but for the good of their religion.  They are pushing for a religious war with Iran.   Not for the good of any people but for those they believe will be raptures.   Hugs

Trump’s foreign policy looks a lot like Rapture Christians’ plan to welcome the apocalypse

Filed under: Criminal, Fascism, History, News, Political, Questions, Reason, Religion — Scottie @ 10:46

The religious take over of the US is in full swing.   The changing of the US from a democracy to theocracy is what these people want.  Religious freedom laws that give special privileges to Christians, and only Christians,  is part of this push to replace democracy with rule by their church doctrines.    Hugs

Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Barack Obama all faced pressure from wealthy potential campaign donors to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but Trump is listening to a voice they were not: evangelical Christians who appear to believe in the “Rapture.” Some, like vice president Mike Pence and secretary of state Mike Pompeo, hold posts inside his cabinet. For Rapture Christians, returning Jerusalem to the Jewish people is a key to the second coming of Christ.

Robert Jeffress, a pastor who preaches the Rapture, delivered the new embassy’s opening prayer. Jeffress has previously said that Mormons are heretics, Jews fated to hell, Islam promotes pedophilia, and homosexuals are filthy. He prayed, “We thank you everyday that you have given us a president who boldly stands on the right side of history, and more importantly on the right side of you, oh God, when it comes to Israel.”

Belief in the Rapture, also known as millenarianism or eschatology, has multiple variations, but the core view is that there will an apocalyptic war, Jesus will return, and true Christians will be “raptured” or ascend to heaven, with the rest of the earth’s inhabitants punished. Rapture believers are split about the order of events, but they are united in the belief that only Christians will be saved.

In the Trump White House, a weekly bible study group calls its brand of faith “historical evangelicalism.” Biblical scholars say the group shares the “end of times” message of “Rapture” theologians in its statement of faith and founder Ralph Drollinger’s own published lessons.

The bible study group is run by Capitol Ministries, an organization with the stated mission “to teach God’s Word and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with state legislators, judges, and constitutional officers.” Capitol Ministries supportersinclude ten members of Trump’s cabinet, including in addition to Pompeo, labor secretary Alex Acosta and housing secretary Ben Carson  according to the Capitol Ministries websiteDrollinger, a UCLA basketball player-turned politician-turned-preacher, has also been holding weekly bible study groups with dozens of Congress members since 2010.

Critics warn that Rapture-believing evangelicals pose a threat to global peace. “They want to bring on the Kingdom of Christ, and their version is weaponized,” said Mikey Weinstein, the founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a watchdog group that tracks Christian fundamentalism in the military. “They want to do whatever they can do to bring their version of Jesus back.”

If you believe in the Rapture, “there are only two groups, the righteous and the unrighteous, or the godly and the ungodly,” said Valarie Ziegler, a professor of religious studies at DePauw University. “It leads to very binary thinking. Any other religion will be a false religion, by definition.”

Millenarianism rejects both evolutionary science, and the biblical scholarship that reanalyzed the Scriptures as historical documents, rather than the literal word of God. It is remarkably popular. The “Left Behind” series of Christian apocalyptic novels first published in 1995 have sold over 80 million copies. “There are tens of millions of Americans who are part of religious communities who hold a Rapture theology,” Carey said. While it’s impossible to know how committed the individuals are to the ideology, they’re an important voting block, he said.

“Rapture theology is not a majority position but it is a powerful enough force to shape elections,” he said. White, evangelical Christians voted overwhelmingly for Trump in 2016.

Rapture theologists and historical evangelicals hold several other views that hew closely to Trump administration policies. They believe that earth was created for man’s use, for example, and that environmentalism is a form of blasphemy.

In an April 2 Bible study, Drollinger focused on the “huge and dire error” of “radical environmentalism”. He argues that humans are incapable of destroying the earth on their own, because it is up to God to “continually renew the face of the earth until He forms a new heaven and a new earth in the end times.”

Rapture believers also tend to be suspicious of international alliances, including the United Nations, global trade pacts, and even the European Union, Carey said. In particular, “they are very suspicious of any international alliance that can accomplish peace,” he added. “Because history is not headed towards peace.”

Qasem Soleimani is a ‘revered’ figure in Iran — and his death will force the country to respond: Fareed Zakaria

IMO this is going to get worse, much worse before this is over.  Iran will target our people, military, political, and civilian.   We now all have targets on us thanks to tRump and those demanding the US over throw the Iranian government.   I suspect it is mostly due to it being an Islamic country and Christians don’t like that.   Plus there is all that oil wealth US corporations want access to.    Plus Israel has been caught lying about Iranian actions to push other countries into harming Iran for them.   Remember when Netanyahu gave a totally fake intelligence briefing designed to convince tRump that Iran had violated the nuclear treaty.   Hugs

Qasem Soleimani is a ‘revered’ figure in Iran — and his death will force the country to respond: Fareed Zakaria

“Soleimani is — it’s difficult to convey how revered he is in Iran,” said Zakaria. “Imagine the French foreign legion, at the height of the French empire. This guy is regarded in Iran as a completely heroic figure, personally very brave.”

“Put it this way. Other than the Supreme Leader Khamenei and maybe the president, he looms larger in Iran than almost any other figure,” said Zakaria. “He is regarded as personally incredibly brave. The troops love him, and he has been the kind of mastermind of Iran’s policies in Syria, in Iraq. So when General Petraeus was fighting the Iraq war, the surge, I remember him telling me that Soleimani was his principle antagonist. That’s the guy the American generals were bumping up against. Stan McChrystal had to decide at one point whether or not to attack a convoy that had him in it. It was a big decision because potentially eliminating Soleimani would have huge blowback. So if in fact this has happened, I think the Iranians will have to respond, and will respond in some way.”

Israel demolishes newly built houses of Palestinian families on New Year’s Day

Filed under: Bigotry, Criminal, Fascism, History, News, Political, Questions, Race, Religion — Scottie @ 03:34

https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-demolish-houses-palestinian-jerusalem-new-years-day

After two years of construction, the al-Khalialeh families had made ready their houses to move into in the near future, their relative Jamal al-Khalialeh told Middle East Eye.

The two families were shocked to wake up on the first day of the new year to hear that Israeli bulldozers accompanied by military forces were demolishing the two houses.

They were not at the scene when Israeli security forces had earlier broken into the two properties, local media reported.

“They had an Israeli court hearing at 10am to look into the issue of demolishing the houses, but at 8:30 am they were surprised to hear the demolishing vehicles had come to knock down their houses,” said Jamal.

Jamal said that the families’ lawyer had managed to get a halt decision from an Israeli judge at around 9:15am but that the Israeli authorities had refused to stop the demolition.

“They started demolishing at around 9am and said that they cannot leave the house half demolished as it is unsafe for the public,” Jamal said.

Israel rarely issues building permits for Palestinians in East Jerusalem or in Areas B and C of the occupied West Bank.

Since Jewish settlements are allowed to grow in the same area, many Palestinians consider the policy an effort to “Judaise” the areas by preventing Palestinian construction.

Ali Jaabis, an activist in Silwan, told MEE that despite supporting their building application with documents from regulated lawyers, and the architecture meeting the proscribed conditions, “it is nearly impossible for Palestinians of Jerusalem to obtain building permits” from the Israeli authorities.

Israel’s military occupied East Jerusalem in 1967 and later annexed it in a move never recognised internationally.
