ALABAMA: Man Dies After His Gun Discharges While Changing Child’s Diaper At Chuck E. Cheese

Filed under: Children, Family, Gun Control, Harm, News, Questions, Sad — Scottie @ 11:07

Birmingham’s ABC affiliate reports:

A father has died after last weekend’s accidental shooting in the parking lot of Chuck E. Cheese’s in Vestavia Hills. The Jefferson County Coroner has identified the victim Timothy Roshun Smith Jr. He was 22.

Lt. Michael Keller with Vestavia Hills PD confirms Smith and his daughter were shot in the restaurant’s parking lot while Smith was changing his daughter’s diaper. Smith was shot in the chest and the child was shot in the leg.

The Birmingham Herald reports:

Keller said the gun was inside a bag in the vehicle. The preliminary information is that the adult male victim was about to change the girl’s diaper when he came in contact with the gun inside the bag and it fired. The single bullet discharged hit him in the chest, and then the girl.

Filed under: Children, Criminal, Dealing With Abuse, Harm, News, Religion, Sad — Scottie @ 17:23

This is again a hard subject to read or hear about.  It has triggered me and several people I know.  There is information here including I got the age of the abusive minor wrong, he was 15 not 16.  If  you are not in a safe place or able to handle the details of the murder of this 7 year old boy please skip this post.   Love and warm hugs to all.

Seriously disturbing video. Watch: High School Staff Forces Bathroom Stall Door Open While Trans Girl Uses Toilet

Filed under: Bigotry, Children, Criminal, Gender, Harm, Health, News, Political, Questions, Reason, Religion, Sad, Youth — Scottie @ 09:35

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2018/11/watch-high-school-staff-forces-bathroom-stall-door-open-while-trans-girl-uses-toilet/

She was only trying to use the bathroom when school staff forced open the stall door, exposing the minor to several leering adult staff members.

In a deplorable demonstration of transgender discrimination and poor judgment, staff members at Osseo Senior High School in Maple Grove, Minnesota, can be seen on video forcing open a bathroom stall door because a transgender teen was using the toilet.

The transgender teen said she was “scared and violated” when the group of adults forcibly opened a private stall while she used the bathroom in her Minnesota school.

The teen captured her horrifying ordeal on video:   Remember to turn on the sound.

more information at the link.   A bunch of perverts force open a bathroom stall while a child is using the toilet.    They then keep the door open.   This is the nightmare that republicans keep saying will happen if you let trans people use the bathroom they identify with, but it is not the trans person doing this, it is the horrible bigots.    The bigots are a threat.   Think of the huge outrage there would be if they had done that to a non-trans student.     Hugs

Ali Forney Center Founder Carl Siciliano

https://www.joemygod.com/2018/11/guest-post-ali-forney-center-founder-carl-siciliano-2/

I keep hoping that the numbers of LGBT youths people thrown out of their homes will begin to diminish, that the crowds of dispossessed kids seeking our help will go down. It hasn’t happened. In fact, Trump’s election has so ramped up hatred and bigotry in our country that the numbers of young people seeking shelter from us has grown by 20%. Last year over 1,400 youths showed up at our doors.

I keep hoping that religious condemnation of LGBT young people will ease up. That hasn’t happened either. The numbers of young people who come to us after being subjected to psychological and even physical torture in bible camps practicing “reparation therapy” also continues to grow. Numerous kids, especially those who come to us from southern states, have endured this. They tell us harrowing stories of abuse.

I keep hoping that LGBT youths will be safer in their homes. But over 75% of our youths were verbally and physically abused in their homes, because they are LGBT.

Adding insult to injury, we learned last month that the Ali Forney Center is losing $300K in federal funding that supported mental health services for our traumatized youths. Frankly, it was not a big surprise. The Trump administration has virtually erased LGBT language from the federal applications for youth-serving grants. But it still hurts. After providing safe places for our youths to sleep at night, supporting their mental health – helping them overcome the violence, trauma and rejection they’ve been forced to endure – is the most important service we provide.

This is heartbreaking. Thank you Nan for sharing.

We humans like to pretend we are enlightened species.  We pat ourselves on the back for giving a dollar or two to a panhandler or at the check out in local stores raising funds.  The story I just read is enough to break your heart if you have any empathy at all for other beings.  Earlier I got a news flash of a four year old exhausted girl who simple stopped.  She collapsed too tired to walk another step.  She had no way to know that her parent was putting her through this because if the stayed where they were, the little four year old girl would have been taken, used as a sex slave , drug mule, or whatever the gangs and fighting forces demanded.   I would remind everyone who doubts this is our problem of two things.   Much of the problems were caused by direct actions of former US governments.  Also if it was your children, you in that situation, wouldn’t you want the country that claims to be the wealthiest on earth to offer a little help.   I will be posting some excerpts from the article and I hope you notice that the people who have the least are the ones trying the hardest to help out.  Hugs

But they remain hopeful that they will reach the US, a country they often see as an idealised country of justice and opportunity – in contrast, they say, to the corruption and violence back home.

And parents say they have no choice but to bring their children to avoid forced recruitment, sexual assault or murder by the gangs which dominate many Central American towns.

Rumors abound that child snatchers are shadowing the caravan, said Keila Castro, 29, who was begging by the roadside with her son Gerson, six, to raise money for a ride in a minibus.

They left Honduras with nothing more than the clothes on their back after a local gang threatened Castro’s husband. Gerson grinned bashfully, but Castro said it was tough to travel with a six-year old. “He’s not as tough as us and he gets very tired.”

So far, the group has averaged about 60km (37 miles) a day. They gather in evening assemblies, and vote on major decisions, such as when to rest, and where to head to next.

All the way, they have depended on the kindness of strangers, hitching rides in rubbish trucks and taxis, and sleeping in town squares, local people’s homes, or collapsed on the wayside.

Earlier this week, they reached the town of Niltepec, which was almost completely destroyed in a 2017 earthquake, where residents – who still live amid the rubble of that disaster – welcomed the caravan with homemade soup. “We wish we had a space dignified enough to offer our visitors,” Zelfareli Cruz Medina, the local mayor told the Associated Press.

At each stop, a team of missionary nuns has tended to the migrants’ blistered feet; many of the walkers are on their second or third pair of flip-flops or crocs.

Churches, municipal governments and generous locals have kept them clothed and fed. The local distributor of the baked-good behemoth Bimbo donated more than 1,000 loaves of white bread at one of the stops.

The caravan sets out early, often hitting the road at 2am or 3am to take advantage of the cooler temperatures before sunrise.

Jenny Gutiérrez, 18, watched the trucks laden with young men roll past her as she walked along the roadside. She was four and a half months pregnant – something she had only discovered after setting out on the journey.

“The worst is the sun,” she said, but that was closely followed by the nausea, the sore throat, and having to bathe in rivers.

Gutiérrez had fled her home to escape gang members who demanded a cut of the meagre income she made selling fruit on the streets. She had no idea where she was heading, but no intention of turning back.

“There’s no future in El Salvador,” she shrugged.

Again a white woman calls police on a black man for being in the building he lives in. This shit has to stop

Filed under: Bigotry, Harm, News, Race, Sad — Scottie @ 09:01

story at :   https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/salvadorhernandez/woman-fired-blocking-black-man-from-his-apartment

In three videos posted to Facebook by the man, D’Arreion Toles, a woman is first seen blocking Toles’ entry into the downtown residential building. When he asks her to “please move, ma’am,” she demands to know if he is a resident.

The uncomfortable exchange continues for several minutes, with the woman asking Toles for his unit number and to see his key fob for the building. The videos have been shared more than 134,000 times since they were posted online Saturday.

“I’m uncomfortable,” she said, explaining why she continued to block his way.

“OK, you can be uncomfortable,” Toles answers. “That’s your discretion. You’re uncomfortable because of you.”

The woman is then seen following Toles in the building and trying to block his way into the elevator. Once inside, she follows him to his floor while continuing to ask to see his keys. “I want to see who you’re going to see,” she tells him.

She shouldn’t have to!

Filed under: Dealing With Abuse, My Life and Rants, News, Reason, Sad, Sex — Scottie @ 20:50

I am not going to win many partisan points with this post, but it is an important post based on empathy.  Recently on a Sunday news program White House advisory Kellyanne Conway blurted out that she also had been sexually assaulted.    She has now had to forcefully tell news organizations she wont be talking about it any more.  She also claims to have gotten threats over it.

Stop it.  Just stop it people.   We ask people to believe or give the benefit of the doubt to someone when they come forward and tell what happened to them.   It is hard enough to tell we don’t have to make it worse.   I started to read some of the comments on her saying she did not want to talk about it and they were nasty toward her.  Yes it seems she , like other republicans , doesn’t have much empathy for others who have been sexually assaulted but that is no excuse to treat her as we wouldn’t want any other person who suffered a sexual assault treated.  If we ask for understanding of someone who is dealing with their abuse, shouldn’t we extend that to her as well.   We are the first ones to blame the republicans for how they are treating the women coming forward about Kavanaugh, so why would we do it to her?

As for talking about her assault, some people simply can’t.  Some can but have to have set conditions.   Some can but if they do it really tears the scab off a deep wound and causes a lot of after shocks to their system.  Not to put too fine a point on it, it rips me up to talk about my abuse and I only do so when I think I will explode if I don’t.   I also have mention my abuse in a discussion in a spur of the moment or because it just slipped out, and while I do not regret it coming out I was not prepared to have a discussion on it.    Even writing this out has been hard and caused me to have memories I do not want to remember and I will have to deal with.

So no she shouldn’t have to talk about it, and after being told she doesn’t want to talk about she shouldn’t be badgered about it.  It is not right she is badgered about something so personal and hurtful regardless of party or her job.  I am disappoint people don’t understand no means no about sexual assault, and it also means no when they don’t want to talk.  No one should be forced to relive those times, those things.  Lets not become what we fight against.   Thank you.  Hugs.  Scottie
