A new study from Stanford University estimates that 18 of Trump’s recent large-scale campaign rallies ultimately resulted in 30,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and probably led to more than 700 deaths among attendees and others infected by them.
The study, released Friday by Stanford economics professor B. Douglas Bernheim and three doctoral students, examined rallies staged by Trump between June 20 and Sept. 30 and looked at the trajectory of cases in the counties in which they were held.
“Our analysis strongly supports the warnings and recommendations of public health officials concerning the risk of COVID-19 transmission at large group gatherings, particularly when the degree of compliance with guidelines concerning the use of masks and social distancing is low,” the authors said. “The communities in which Trump rallies took place paid a high price in terms of disease and death.”
Asked for comment on the study’s findings, the Trump campaign did not address the numbers but pushed back on the notion that the standards for social distancing at its rallies are low.
“Americans have the right to gather under the First Amendment to hear from the President of the United States, and we take strong precautions for our campaign events, requiring every attendee to have their temperature checked, providing masks they’re instructed to wear, and ensuring access to plenty of hand sanitizer,” Courtney Parella, the campaign’s deputy national press secretary, said in a statement. “We also have signs at our events instructing attendees to wear their masks.”
During the closing weeks of the campaign, Trump has touted his ability to draw large crowds and mocked Biden for holding “drive-in” events with far fewer attendees.
Real presidential in protecting and keeping the people safe. As always with tRump it is about him, his needs, his wants, and his safety. Hugs
“In fact, lockdowns and mandatory mask mandates are probably slowing the onset of herd immunity. We want people who are generally healthy to actually contract COVID if they do naturally. If you’re under the age of 50, you have got a 99.95 chance of survival.
“You need herd immunity to develop and that’s going to be between about 50-66 percent. Young healthy individuals get COVID, they get sick, they move on with their lives. For the vast, vast majority.
“Look at President Trump, he is 70 plus, he got COVID, he did beautifully. I think we’ve, we need to talk about fundamental issues, vitamin D, zinc.
“If you’re sick, quarantine. If you’re fragile, you’re vulnerable, again, stay safe, quarantine. But the rest of us have to get this society moving. This is a cruel experiment.” – Dr. Ramin Oskoui, speaking last night on Laura Ingraham’s show.
There is video at the link above. The fact is scientists are not sure herd immunity is even possible with this virus. They do know it would spike the death rate possibly into the millions. How many of our population is expendable for someone else’s profits? Are you? Is your family? Your children or grand children? Why is it that these people can not see that the great USA is saying it can not do what most other countries on the planet managed to do? When the presidents chief of staff Mark Meadows said that they wouldn’t try to control the spread of Covid he was asked why. He replied that it was contagious, it was a virus. Yet again other countries did control it, and even some states in the US are containing it. I am tired of being thought of a work animal only here for someone else profit. Also who is going to pay the large medical bills for those who get sick. I know I was not born a wealthy entitled brat like Jared Kushner and tRump and his family, but I have as much right to life at they do. Or damn well should. Hugs
Florida reported its highest coronavirus numbers in two months with another uptick in new infections Saturday, surging to more than 4,000 cases.
The state also reported nearly 90 more deaths, which pushed its official death toll to nearly 16,000 Floridians since March. Since the outbreak began, Florida has recorded more than 752,00 coronavirus cases.
The rise in Florida comes as infections are increasing alarmingly in other parts of the country, particularly in the Midwest and other areas that were relatively spared during the earlier onslaught of the COVID-19 outbreak.
There was no immediate explanation for the rising numbers. It’s the third time in the past seven days that the number of new cases has well exceeded 3,000, according to state health statistical reports.
Three weeks ago, Gov. Ron DeSantis lifted all restrictions on restaurants and other businesses in Florida as part of his push to resuscitate the economy.
The rise comes as Florida prepares to open its polls Monday for early voting ahead of the Nov. 3 presidential election.
Saturday’s new report pushed the seven-day average to more than 3,300 cases, although trying to gather statistical trends has been hampered recently because of reporting anomalies.
On two occasions in recent months, one-day totals exceeded Saturday’s surge but were statistical outliers. In one case, data being reported included numbers that should have been previously reported — as was also the case in early September when a testing company dumped data that dated as far back as April.
The New York Times reports:
The White House has embraced a declaration by a group of scientists arguing that authorities should allow the coronavirus to spread among young healthy people while protecting the elderly and the vulnerable — an approach that would rely on arriving at “herd immunity” through infections rather than a vaccine.
Many experts say “herd immunity” — the point at which a disease stops spreading because nearly everyone in a population has contracted it — is still very far-off. Leading experts have concluded, using different scientific methods, that about 85 to 90 percent of the American population is still susceptible to the coronavirus.
Sky News reports:
Sky News found dozens of fake names on the list of medical signatories, which anyone can add to if they tick a box and enter a name. These included Dr. I.P. Freely, Dr. Person Fakename and Dr. Johnny Bananas, who listed himself as a “Dr of Hard Sums”. One medical professional on the list gives his name as Dr Harold Shipman, a general practitioner in the United Kingdom. A GP called Harold Shipman killed more than 200 of his patients before he was arrested in 1998.
Sky News also found 18 self-declared homeopaths listed on the open letter as medical practitioners, despite the fact that homeopathy has no scientific underpinning or clinical evidence to support its use. In addition, the letter has been signed by well over 100 therapists, including massage therapists, hypnotherapists, psychotherapists and one Mongolian Khöömii Singer who describes himself as a “therapeutic sound practitioner”.
This is a death sentence for a lot of people in the country. This is the government saying it is better for a lot of people to die, get sick and have huge medical bills than the government doing anything, paying anything, helping in anyway for people to live and be safe. Basically this is the tRump administration throwing their hands up and saying we don’t have a plan and don’t know what to do while we are afraid of the pain we will face if we do what we know needs be done.
Think on it, the rest of the world knew what to do and they reduced deaths of their people and their economies are still going, they never took the great hits ours did. Stop thinking the US is the entire world, that is killing us. This idea of herd immunity is basically saying your life and your suffering means nothing as long as you keep the wealthy making their money from the stock market. Your life is worth nothing compared to the money the wealthy desire. That is the entire thing. tRump doesn’t care if you die, in fact he doesn’t care if you live, to him you are nothing. If you are not wealthy or you can not help him personally you are only fodder, only to be used until useless then discarded. Hello People do you not see the point and issue? tRump wants far more people intimidating poll watchers to prevent people from using their right to vote than he has to preventing the spread of Covid across the country.
tRump and his ilk have drawn the lines, it is them and their profits over your life. I mentioned before how every governor telling people to return to how things were before Covid also are not the ones at risk. The ones demanding the opening of schools so the working parents can be free to go back to the jobs that do not exist are not putting their kids in the public schools, not having their families shopping in stores or malls. They want you to do what they think their families are above doing. It really pisses me off. Hugs
